Hammer of the North v2.9 PBEM

Are the coronation swords meant to block unit movement with ZOC?

The Barbs in the middle of the Franks are quite annoying. They come charging out of ther forts and hit anything in sight. They need more resources devoted to stopping them than the Norse and Danes do (in single player at least).

Yeah, the swords block movement unless you have heirs or emissaries to guide your forces around them.

I wanted all civs to have some domestic disturbance, which makes allocating forces more intriguing, since fighting this properly will mean exposure in other areas - and make the christian civs vulnerable to the viking attacks for a longer time. All civs will likely have to choose between pest or kolera, until a king is crowned and one can start building up the kingdom. :)

Morten, could you summarize the changes to the tech tree ? But if there were a lot of them, don't bother - I'll just start over.

I haven't play-tested the new version, but I did look at the events file. It appears that when a sword is "killed", it is gone forever. So, each civ gets only one King for the whole game (on average). Was that intentional?

@Peaster,
All Coronation Swords are preplaced on the map. When the initial ones are destroyed, one has to search the map and undertake quests to find the others. Many are located in remote areas of the map. So yes, the amount of kings for a full game is limited, and each civ in many cases may have to fight for additional ones with other civs.

The tech tree has not changed since the last version. I once did a graphical tech tree for the 'medieval patch' which was the groundwork for this scenario. I will try and find it and alter it to fit for the scenario, to spare you for the trouble of making a new one from scratch :)

@John,
I think we only need Eivind to make his appearance, before we're ready :)

I'm afraid that this is a very bad time for me to commit myself. Hope you find a new player. Another time maybe.

Patient English might take them if he wish. :)

Duke, it'll be great to have you as the Norse. :)

If there's an AI civ able to hold its own, it is the Franks (and possibly the Germans). I'd prefer one of these civs to be AI, if any.

I am trying to find an extra player for the game. If one doesn't show up before thursday, let us commence the game. This should also give you all ample time to familiarize yourselves with the new setup.

Ok. I'll start the game up in the next couple days and by the time it gets to the Franks we'll see if we have a new player or not.

I've never even looked at the game from the Norse perspective other than what troops they use. I'll have to see how different the tech tree looks not being a Christian power.
