Turnchat Summary Thread

Turn 10 – 690 AD

We retake the Worker, but leave the Archer in the hope he’ll step off the Mountain. Then there’s the Dromons to follow again.

DG6_AD0690_TC701.jpg

DG6_AD0690_TC702.jpg

We have completed Military Tradition and selected Astronomy as our next tech to research. But the Maya and Byzantines already have this. Our Advisor suggests Banking; perhaps we should listen to him. We end the session with 1085 gold, +82gpt, 3.7.0, Astronomy in 6.

DG6_AD0690_TC703.jpg

To trade or not to trade, that was the question throughout this turnchat. Maybe we missed opportunities, maybe we slowed the techpace, either way we didn’t trade. Byzantines have built the Sistine Chapel so we need to rethink our Wonder build, plus the timing of our Golden Age. Militarily things went well, with the Dutch finally eliminated and the Spanish right down to only a few cities. Culturally our growth continues with several Temple rushes in outlying regions and the start of our first University. We now have the highest culture per turn of any Civ.

Turn 0 – 690 AD

First job is to de a few upgrades. The Elite Knight in Cengiz is moved out and 2 Vets are moved in. That makes 10. Add in the 2 Elite Horses that are getting too old to be much use and we have 12 Cavalry to be used next turn. The remaining 8 Knights are 3 in the Army, 2 Elite, 1 fully moved in Blacktopia and 2 in Chinese territory. These last 3 will be upgraded next turn.

DG6_AD0690_TC801.jpg

We examine the trading options, but with inconclusive discussions in the forum it looks best to wait until we can stop our alliances and re-examine the possibilities next turn.

We then spend a little more gold to get some border expansion in the Chinese sector, donsignia changes to Sistine Chapel, Heroic Epic gets added to Husborne Crawley’s queue and the preturn ends with 293 gold, +169gpt, 5.5.0, Banking in 8. Those Dromons are going to get a nasty surprise when they do finally land.

Turn 1 – 700 AD

Our remaining 3 Veteran Knights are upgraded, plus 1 built in Camelot gives 16 Cavalry!

DG6_AD0700_TC801.jpg

We re-examine the deals. There’s a lot of gold on offer, but the Byzantine deal would probably go down once we stop the alliance. Byzantines have also broken our last deals and this finally sways us. If we sell to Maya they will sell to Byzantines, so with the split discussion in the forum we decide to watch and wait for any change in the value of the trade that would indicate either Maya or Byzantines were researching Chemistry.

DG6_AD0700_TC805.jpg

Our Army is now near Liveratica and we can start the move to Valencia next turn.

DG6_AD0700_TC802.jpg

Cavalry now guard both the Spanish Archer and the Dromons and we end the turn with 372 gold, +152 gpt, 5.5.0, Banking in 7.

DG6_AD0700_TC803.jpg

DG6_AD0700_TC804.jpg

IBT: Our Culture finally expands over the tiles NE of Rivendell, and after all that waiting the Byzantines land…

Turn 2 – 710 AD

We deal with the Byzantine Archer, an anticlimax after all that journey, found Cheeseville to go with Baconopolis and move our Army into Valencia.

DG6_AD0710_TC801.jpg

DG6_AD0710_TC802.jpg

Another Temple rush to complete the trio in the Chinese sector and 2 more Dromons to watch

DG6_AD0710_TC803.jpg

DG6_AD0710_TC804.jpg

We end the turn with 319 gold, +156 gpt, 5.5.0, Banking in 6.

IBT:

The Spanish and Dutch fight it out around Valencia and Delft, and the Spanish land an Archer for us near Rivendell.

Turn 3 – 720 AD

The Spanish Archer goes the same way as the Byzantine one last turn. We move our Army next to Valencia, and 5 Cavalry start moving North through the jungle in the Chinese sector.

DG6_AD0720_TC801.jpg

DG6_AD0720_TC802.jpg

The new Dromons continue their long journey to Rivendell and we end the turn with 474 gold, +159 gpt, 5.5.0, Banking in 5.

DG6_AD0720_TC803.jpg

IBT: A Spanish Knight kills one of our 5 Cavalry near PDX and disappears back into the fog. The injured Archer by Valencia returns to the city.

Turn 4 – 730 AD

Time for Valencia. Our Army attacks once, twice, and defeats two regular Spears. The Elite Sword quickly dispatches the wounded Archer and we capture Valencia! Our remaining unused Cavalry and the 12/13 Army move towards Leiden.

DG6_AD0730_TC801.jpg
In the Chinese sector we move our four remaining Cavalry North and can finally see Barcelona.

DG6_AD0730_TC804.jpg

We rush a Temple in Liveratica, Dromon watch continues, and we end the turn with 475 gold, +161gpt, 5.5.0, Banking in 4.

DG6_AD0730_TC802.jpg

DG6_AD0730_TC803.jpg

IBT: A Spanish Knight and Medieval Infantry both die attacking our Cavalry by Barcelona. Husborne Crawley starts on the Heroic Epic.

Turn 5 – 740 AD

Our troops are ready for the Dutch.

DG6_AD0740_TC801.jpg

We finally finish what we started.

DG6_AD0740_TC803.jpg

DG6_AD0740_TC804.jpg

DG6_AD0740_TC805.jpg

We lose no troops, it takes all 3 Cavalry and the Army to take Leiden (3 Spears and an Archer), then only 3 Cavalry to defeat the 3 Spears in Delft. We even have fresh troops remaining to move to the Chinese sector. Barcelona isn’t so simple, we take out a Pike, a Spear and a Knight, but the injuries we took in the IBT left us with insufficient healthy troops by 1. We fortify and wait it out.

DG6_AD0740_TC806.jpg

The turn ends with 668 gold, 163gpt, 5.5.0, Banking in 3.

IBT: The Spanish Knight attacks and dies, promoting our 4/4 Cavalry to 4/5. The Portuguese units fight something unseen and retreat injured. Then some bad news…

Turn 6 – 750 AD

We attack Barcelona, and thanks to that Spanish Knight in the IBT, our newly promoted Elite Cavalry captures the city.

DG6_AD0750_TC801.jpg

We switch donsignia back to Leos so as not to lose the prebuild and up research slightly to get Banking in 1 – we may need to with our prebuild due in 8. We spend a little more gold rushing Ratopia’s Temple and end the turn with 679 gold, +78gpt, 3.7.0, Banking in 1.

DG6_AD0750_TC802.jpg

IBT: A Spanish Knight appears North of Barcelona but doesn’t attack.

DG6_AD0750_TC803.jpg

Continued in next post....

Turn 7 – 760 AD

We reinforce our position in Barcelona before taking out the Spanish Knight with a Cavalry.

DG6_AD0760_TC801.jpg

We look yet again at trades and try yet again to reconcile what is available with the discussion in the forums. There are several options and we should either stop and discuss which ones we take, or continue for now. For the same reasons as before we continue.

DG6_AD0760_TC802.jpg

We set our research to time with the completion of our prebuild and end the turn on 521 gold, +130gpt, 1.9.0, Economics in 7

IBT:

Turn 9 – 780 AD

We keep our newly built Cavalry back in our core to start to build up a force to deal with landings from the Byzantine Navy. Our Catapults reach Gingerbread City and we upgrade them to Cannon for 120 gold. We move closer to Tours, keeping to the mountain as our route is otherwise blocked by the Portuguese. Another Cavalry blocks the French Iron.

DG6_AD0780_TC801.jpg

We build Riva to replace Delft and end the turn with 660 gold, +133 gpt, 4.6.0, Economics in 5.

DG6_AD0780_TC802.jpg

IBT: The Dromon Fleet continues down our coast and the Portuguese move in on Tours.

Continued in next post....

Turn 10 – 790 AD

The Portuguese have left us a route to Tours, we dodge between them and attack, defeating their 2 Spears with 2 cavalry and capturing the city along with 2 trebuchets.

DG6_AD0790_TC801.jpg

DG6_AD0790_TC802.jpg

But look! We have 9 Cavalry in our stack left unused, I wonder what we could do with them :mischief: We attack Madrid.

We defeat a Pike, lose 2 Cavalry in a row injuring 1 Pike to 2/3 and another to 1/3, then defeat 2 further Pikes. A 3/3 Knight is up next, unfortified. We lose 2 Cavalry promoting it to 4/4 then injuring but promoting it again to 2/5. It’s replaced by a Pike we injured earlier. We win, the Knight is back and this time it falls. But there’s another Pike....

[00:56] <Furiey> the redlined Pike is up - I need one more....
[00:56] <bertie> one unit left?
[00:56] <Furiey> looks like it
[00:57] <Furiey> I can't get another there!
[00:57] <bertie> sigh
[00:57] <bertie> tuesday
[00:57] <Furiey> there's a Portuguese Sword blocking the shortest route
[00:58] <Furiey> now if that was a Cav Army, not a Knight Army....
[00:58] <bertie> when does our deal with portugal run out?
[00:58] <bertie> our peace treaty & ma?
[00:59] <Furiey> it has.....
[00:59] <Furiey> :evil thought:
[00:59] <bertie> very

and with that evil thought we end the session with 793 gold, +145gpt, 4.6.0, Economics in 4.

DG6_AD0790_TC803.jpg

An end to the term that sets things up for the term to come. After the loss of the Sistine Chapel to the Maya we kept our prebuild and switched to Smith’s Trading Post via the big picture as soon as we researched Economics. The timing was perfect; we completed the Wonder on the same turn, without wasting shields.

Building Smiths started our Golden Age and our production soared, even some of the very corrupt cities we able to build culture as a result. With the increased production in our core, as well as producing some Cavalry we built or short rushed some Aqueducts to allow cities to grow and take advantage of the boom, but the primary production focus was Culture.

Militarily, we captured Madrid after declaring on Portugal to remove the Sword blocking our way. The final Spanish cities and the 2 Portuguese cities behind our lines quickly fell to our Cavalry. We made Peace with the Byzantines before the Dromon fleet could land, but they have continued on their way. The 2 Dromons that were near Rivendell about to land went home. We have nearly completed the acquisition of the land we need, next Term it’s France!

Turn 0 – 790 AD

With their Sword blocking our way to Madrid, Portugal’s time has come

DG6_AD0790_TC905.jpg

Our Army moves to take out a Portuguese Archer but spots Great Leader Viriato protected by a Spear, we attack that instead and deprive the Portuguese of their Great Leader. A Cavalry later takes the Archer instead. We look at Antioch, but the Cavalry dies against their Spear; we’ll have to wait.

DG6_AD0790_TC906.jpg

DG6_AD0790_TC907.jpg

We spend pretty much all our gold short-rushing via Courthouses to speed the Aqueducts in Spichester, Camelot and Blather and the preturn ends with 3 gold, +154gpt, 4.6.0, Economics in 4.

DG6_AD0790_TC908.jpg

IBT: The Spanish kill one of their Slaves by Madrid and we laugh at Joans offer. I’m quick enough on the Print Scrn button to catch the last of the Dromon fleet moving as they continue on their way.

DG6_AD0790_TC909.jpg

DG6_AD0790_TC910.jpg

Turn 1 – 800 AD

We still have the monopoly on Chemistry. Cavalry dispose of the remaining Portuguese troops in our territory and with 2 Cavalry and a Knight we capture Antioch.

DG6_AD0800_TC901.jpg

DG6_AD0800_TC902.jpg

DG6_AD0800_TC903.jpg

We end the turn with 160 gold, +156 gpt, 4.6.0, Economics in 3.

IBT: A lone Spanish MI steps on to the mountain next to our Army and the Dromons continue their journey.

DG6_AD0800_TC905.jpg

Continued in next post....

Turn 2 – 810 AD

We still have the monopoly on Chemistry.

Our Army is not distracted, it attacks Seville defeating the Pike, attacks again – another Pike and wins again, capturing Seville on its own!

DG6_AD0810_TC901.jpg

We look at Toledo – Pikes defending, we shall have to wait until next turn. War Weariness is starting to become apparent in some of our cities, so we need to think about finishing this quickly.

DG6_AD0810_TC902.jpg

We spend some gold again rushing a Temple in Punjab and end the turn with 86 gold, +38 gpt, 6.4.0, Economics in 2.

DG6_AD0810_TC903.jpg

IBT: we lose a Cav to a Knight in Toledo, but that’s all for the counterattack

DG6_AD0810_TC904.jpg
DG6_AD0810_TC906.jpg

And the Dromons have now reached Camelot.

Turn 3 – 820 AD

DG6_AD0820_TC901.jpg

We attack Santiago, the Army wins, the Cavalry retreats, so we have to wait another turn, we don’t do any better a Toledo, losing a Cav and still not taking the city

DG6_AD0820_TC902.jpg

We spend some gold again rushing a Temple in Madrid now that resistance has ended and end the turn with 138 gold, +43gpt, 6.4.0, Economics in 1.

IBT: The main Dromon fleet continue past Camelot, the smaller fleet continues its journey home. This is an eventful IBT as amongst other things with the help of the Big Picture we start our Golden Age!

The Army takes Santiago, the Cavs by Toledo defeat 2 Pikes but there’s an Archer there as well and the city stands for another day as the Cavs have to retreat to heal.

DG6_AD0830_TC907.jpg

War Weariness is spreading

DG6_AD0830_TC908.jpg

We spend more gold rushing Temples in Merigovenia, Refreshing Beverage, Arglebargle and Los Lobos. We end the turn with 1516 gold, +308gpt, 4.6.0, Physics in 5. The Byzantines captured the Persian city of Tyre last turn, will they continue with their conquest of Persia now we have made Peace, will they even keep their Peace deal with us this time?

IBT: Rivendell Dromons turn round, the Stack continues, and we lose an injured Cav to the French

Continued in next post....

Turn 5 – 840 AD

We still have the monopoly on Chemistry. Most of our Aqueducts have now completed – our cities are growing! The Longbow that killed our Cavalry is left exposed on a hill.

DG6_AD0840_TC901.jpg

We revenge our lost Cavalry, spend some more gold and quickly end the turn with 1588 gold, +312gpt, 4.6.0, Physics in 4.
