I think I've given up. been trying for an hour.

I finally get a good game going, and now I suddenly can't play any more.

I end my turn, a pikemen destroys my knight, the music changes, and it locks up.

After about 10 minutes of seeing the same screen, I give up and shut the game down. Have done that twice.

I'm mainly interested if it's able to be done on other computers, but if you manage to get it to the start of the next turn, please save and attach. :)

My savegame

P.S. - Had to throw it on filefront because even zipped, the save game is bigger then the forum will let me upload.

Hi,

Got your savegame to the next turn without any problem.

The Egyptians asked for a peace traty which I refused.

I don't have any filefront account, so send me an email to :
laurent.lorette@skynet.be

and I'll reply you with the savegame.

i have this exact same problem on one of my computers. it seemed to just be freezing randomly after a bit of playing. but after like the 4th game it had frozen on i decided to just let it sit for a while, and lo and behold up pops the diplomacy screen with alexander's head. except it was still frozen. there were some strange sounds, and then like every 4 minutes, the head would move and then freeze again. with much patience, i managed to click the options to get me out of the diplomacy screen. waited a couple more minutes... and the game returned to normal! the game froze again later when another diplomacy screen came up. so obviously the diplomacy screen is causing some sort of trouble on my computer.

some other symptoms of this problem. if i try to alt tab or alt ctrl del while the game is "frozen" (really it seems that is just moving very slow), then i get a blue screen about something like a memory dump or something (i cant remember because...), then it quickly restarts the entire computer

also, i have played a few games that had absolutely no problem with the diplomacy screens that i played all the way through to the end. so this is not a 100% repeatable problem. also i seem to be getting this problem more often in multiplayer lan games... but im not sure if thats true, ive just played more lan games than single player games.

is this any kind of known bug that anyone could help me out with?

i have a

Athlon 64
1 GB RAM
2 Geforce 6800nu running SLI

I feel i should point out that you two do NOT have the exact same problem. ZippyDan's error is almost certainly the result of a memory leak, whereas Gonzo's problem could be the result of an unreliable CDROM drive. Although its likely that a memory leak is causing both, given that Gonzo's compy is prolly a great deal slower that Zippy's. For future refrence gonz, post your system specs.

how do you figure? i had the same issue (which i forgot to mention). if i tried to reload the game at the last autosave, i would get the exact same problem... freeze

note what lolo says: it loaded fine on his computer, and the first thing he saw was the egyptians asking for something. sounds like the same problem to me :( diplomacy causing a freeze

E-mail sent requesting the file.

Tried again just now, decided to wait it out while watching Ep.3 deleted scenes, but I got some type of graphics driver corruption and had to shut the system down.

Please patch this game...

Well, apparently 2K support has decided to just stop dealing with people calling them about Civ4.

Guy had me do a bunch of crap that, being a computer tech, I knew had nothing to do with the problem and would not fix it. I did them anyway.

When they of course did not work, the guy took my e-mail address and said he would send me an e-mail that I could then reply to with my dxdiag info so he could take a look at it. it's been an hour since I got off the phone with him, he told me he sent it while i was on the phone with him.

All this after suggesting the problem was not with the game, but with my PC.

if I wasn't so sick and tired of trying to fix this already, I'd call back.

I give up. I wonder if I can return the game...

I have more or less the same problem as you GoNzOTW, so you are not alone. What's your pc config?

I started a game with large map and 8 civs and I played until around 1500AD and I took a rest. I loaded up the game next day and after I finished my first turn, some sound effects were played (sounds like Islam has been spreaded to one of my cities) and the music changed (same as you GoNzOTW) and the game just locked there. I wait for like 10 minutes and nothing happened, the "press enter to end turn" prompt is still there, and I could move the mouse around.

This lockup problem happened to me for several times already so it is definitely not a problem of this particular game save. I wonder if anyone has a solution for this problem?

Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519)
System Manufacturer: MSI
System Model: MS-6380
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1700+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.5GHz
Memory: 1024MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

Sound Blaster Live for a sound card, and a Radeon 9800 Pro (128MB) for a video card.

I just find a possible solution for our problem GoNzOTW. We both use the Sound Blaster Live sound card and it appears that it is the problem. If you type dxdiag.exe in "command prompt" (by typing "cmd" in the "run..." menu option in start menu) and the Directx diagnostic tool will be opened. Click the "sound" tab and under the "directx features" option, drag the slide bar such that the sound hardware acceleration level becomes "no acceleration". This should solve the lockup problem. If in case it didn't, try to disable all the sound effect in civ4 option. I hope it works for you.

Can anybody else advance that to the next turn by chance? I'm not getting any replies from the e-mails I sent asking for the file. :)
