I am sure this has been mentioned a million times.

First off great game! I love every aspect of it, secondly gamespy =/

Every night when i get off work i spend about 1 - 2 hrs just trying to connect to someone to get in a game, i know it isnt just me becuase over half the room always seems to have the same problem. I used to play Rise of Nations but that game lost alot of customers due to one reason Gamespy multiplayer was all screwed up on that game to. So is there any resolution to this? Or am i going to have to hang up this great game becuase i spend more time trying to get in a game then actually playing?

I probly couldve searched forums im sure this has been addressed but just opened a account to put my 2 cents.

Thanks
Nirbush

It could be just your connection, I play Civ4 all the time on-line most I've ever had to wait to get a game started was a half an hour.

I figured someone would say just my connection, Thats why i ahve waited for 2 weeks of this crap to complain :)

I can play quake4, quake3 online anytime i want, i have cable, i have router but i have even disconnected router several times, my connection has nothing wrong with i even have done a reformat about 4 days ago just in case there was soemthing with my windows. So besides the my connection answer someone has to have something else.

That is strange. Maybe it could be your connection between Gamespy. I would reccommend completly turning off any firewalls you might have on.

BTW, I should of done this in my last post:
Welcome to CFC! :)

lol thanks, I have done traceroute everything you can think of man. Like right now i can get into a game no prob. But for some reason between 5-7pm it seems impossible then around 8 -9 u can get lucky not until 10pm eatsern time does it seem i can finally start joining. Plus i have a good friend in wisconsin (i live in florida). Who tries to go into rooms with me who always gets the same stuff but like i said i have gotten lucky before and get in 15 minutes or sometimes i spend 2 hrs trying to get into games. Another thing i noticed to is i will get into one and there are only 2 of 7 spots filled up and no one else can join. Have waited before in a server for 25 minutes for people to join servers (no its not my server someone else who created one). My friend has also been in lobby during this advertising and people just keep saying all its saying is contacting peer.

This is what i normaly get

Contacting host -------- soemtimes i will only get this

Contacting host----connecting to peer most of the time i get this and it will go on forever

All i basically want to know if Firaxis plans on working on this problem with gamespy or is it always going to be around? Trust me i have done everything you can think of connection wise so i know it is not on my end

It's most likely that its your connection. My Internet connection sometimes hours of the day where it usually just refuses to work or is very slow (around 3-4pm) but then it just fixes it self. Also a friend of mine reported the same kind of thing happening (we have the same ISP) and he says it dies around 6-7pm.

I'm also on a Cable connection. Maybe you could try joining a game some other part of the day (maybe in the morining on a weekend) and see if it works better. If it does you likely have the same thing going on with your ISP.

Put it this way when i cannot seem to get into a game, i can play any other game online no problem at all without much lag or anything. So not sure what else i can say about that its not my connection. Now maybe it could be gamespy's maybe there server is overwhelmed? Or maybe some kind of bug

i remember when I had AOL boardband I couldn't connect any Civ3 games but could with others PC games. So I got rid of AOL and went to Earthlink and this solved my problem.

There are a few things you can do here:

First, try talking to people in chat for their ip's rather than hosting in gamespy. Then simply use the ip connect outside of gamespy to hook into a game.

Secondly, are you clicking the little square button column just to the left of the ping column? If you click it, it breaks off a little part of it, and the games will rearrange themselves with the unstarted games at the top. In general unstarted games will join significantly better. If you try to join some in progress games you may have quite a few problems (sometimes the games just don't exist anymore, but still appear).

Third, about the firewall. For those other games, your firewall might not be blocking the specific port, but perhaps it is blocking for civ4. I don't remember all the ports offhand, but if you IPforward for those ports you should have alot less problems connecting. I know that I had quite a few problems connecting before forwarding the specific civ4 ports, even though I "turned off" my firewall.

Rofl you all got to be kidding me. I have port forwared 2056 is the port to be specific :) I only have a router for firewall, you can unplug rotuer then you have no firewall. I also am well aware the games with the columns are already in progress. Now does someone have a logically explanation or all you all going to keep tyring to make me look like a n00b

Oh by the way i have never installed AOL nor will i ever :)

Thanks

I am right with ya bro.

I have that port open , 2056,as well. Still no joy to connect to game spy. I don't get past the sign in screen.

I think we have a game set up for Saturday night, are you up for it. It will be a IP connect game, THAT works for me, but it's a pain to get people.

Let me know

Ill play it for a week more then refund it :)

Sounds like you have all the options covered Nirbush and without the developers intervention none of us other 'N00bs' can help you, stupid idea but does it work over LAN? Also do you have a Gamespy account, and is the computer switched on?
