Would you be interested in an SG HoF attempt?

I was considered starting an SG as an HoF (Hall Of Fame) attempt. According to the HoF Rules only ‘single player’ games can be submitted. Superslug stated there could be other possibilities if there is enough interest.

I’m curious if there is anyone who would be interested in such a game? Note this is not a sign up, but rather to get a feel on how many players would be interested in this type of game. If enough interest is given we’ll see what Superslug has planned.

Again, this is not a sign up, so everyone who would be interested in this type of game please state so. Note that this type of game would not be your normal SG. An emphasis would be put on a high score, and milking will be involved.

I am interested. Some things take a while to catch on, but the timing (since everyone is just getting a handle on Civ4) may not be right.

I would - or is this dead?

According to the HoF rules (linked in the first post) we cannot attempt a HoF submission by way of an SG. Superslug stated if there was enough interest he might consider creating something for us.

As you can count above we didn't have very many interested players. I doubt with what few players that are interested Superslug would be willing to invest his time.

This thread wasn't too start an SG, but see who was interested in such a thing. Thanks for your interest though.

If only a few others would express an interest! ;)

I've submitted a game but it hasn't appeared in the tables. What's going on?
There are a number of steps that occur before submitted games appear. The current state of a submitted game is shown on the My Submissions page (note that this link won't work unless you are logged in). The Status has the following meaning:
  • Not Checked-This is the initial state after submitting. The submission will stay in this state until the HOF staff have validated the information extracted from the files and that the submission meets the HOF rules.
  • Accepted-This is the state of a submission after the HOF staff have accepted the game. The submission will not appear in the main tables until it has been published.
  • Excluded-This is the state of a submission after the HOF staff have rejected the game. The HOF staff will contact you via email to let you know why the submission was rejected.
  • Published-The HOF staff will publish all of the games that have been Accepted at regular intervals. For Civ 3 this interval is fortnightly. For the beta of Civ 4 this may be more often initially. Once a submission has been published it will appear in the table only if it qualifies for the top 10 of the relevant table.
I think that you are reading the rules too literally - there is nothing in the rules against submitting any old game. So, we can submit any game we like to the HOF. The rules are just there to guide us on what will be accepted. I think that we should play a SG game under the HOF rules (well, as close as possible), submit the sucker and see what happens. Strictly speaking - under the current rule set, it will probably be 'excluded' but it will certainly get the discussion going!

Read the first rule you quoted, under Game Type. It explicitly states 'Single Player'. An SG game is not a single player game. Also read Superslug's statement in post #2 of this thread.

Yes, it would not be accepted - granted, no question there ... but, there is nothing to stop us playing a HOF game and submitting it. Hey, we could build our own maps, cheat like crazy (not that I am suggesting this part)and still submit the game - it just wouldn't be accepted.

I would love to play a SG HOF game and submit just to push the 'single player' game part.

I'd be interested and would like to see it happen, too bad there isn't a lot of support or interest yet.

Submitting an SG game to the HOF could stimulate a lot of discussion on the idea and maybe more interest would be shown (I'm not suggesting to break the rules though).

I'm thinking there isn't a lot of interest because in CFC I can see different groups of people. You have the GOTM players and HOFamers. You have the single players who discuss mostly in the General Discussion forum asking questions about the game. You have the multiplayers who like to mostly play online. And you have the people who like to do a little bit of everything (me). Maybe the SG gamers aren't interested in HOF(?)
