Shiro's Unit work thread

Hot diggity, as I seem to be saying quite frequently these days.

I don't know if this will show up at civ scale, but if yer gonna make the American Hoplite, he'll require more than a shield & skirt (and weapon) change. He'll need a helmet change too, away from the Celtic-inspired Roman helmet and something more Corinthian or Boethian.

Okay, probably doesn't even matter at civ scale anyway.

Man that looks sweet! I'm very impressed!

If you have trouble with the pose for the gun, you can download Kinboat's Gnoll gun pose, with a few adjustments, it works great, its what I did with my Egyptian, and all three riflemen I did. (And I'm going to redo my Samurai Flintlockman with)

The preview looks pretty good. I would take a look at the sword at civ-scale though. It could be that it is too thin to show up properly. You might the to make it thicker and wider to get it to show up.

That one was fine, but it only made sense for the Zulu. If Shiro makes this one, it will be a north African musketman and could represent anything from a Kanem-Bornu gunman right up to a modern-day Touareg or other desert nomad. Which makes it very useful.

I use the Zulu musketman as a "Bantu musketman" for the Zulu and Angola, this one will be for Ghana and Nubia.

Plotinus, I was just curious what would you say are the 4 most important black african civlizations?
I have in my mod Ghana/Mali, Nubia, Angola and Zulu.

Of course they were. Indeed, some would say they still are... For example, here's a quote that you might like, SOG, from a book published in 1999:

Kessis Kefyalew Merahi said:
Ethiopia, the land located in North East Africa with her many thousand years of history, is the land of God… the histories of almost all the countries in the world were written only by men of the world, whereas the history of Ethiopia, in addition, has been written, in the Holy Scripture, by the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

And of course there was a time when the Axumite navy was the biggest in the world. So while I'm very pleased that they put Mali into Civ IV (though something like Shiro's unit would have been a better UU for them than the one they were assigned), there would probably have been an even better case for Ethiopia too.

That is a cool quote

Ethiopia is mentioned in the Bible as well, King Solomon had an affair with the Queen of Ethiopia, Sheba, and its been proven threw dna that the Ethiopians and the Israelis are in fact related closer than thought previously.

I think Ethiopia became Christian before europe ever did as well.

Ethiopia became Christian in the fourth century, so that was at around the same time as the Goths, but obviously well before anyone north of there.

Of course, no-one really knows the truth behind the legend of the Queen of Sheba, but it seems most likely that she was actually the ruler of what is now Yemen. According to the legend, their son, Menelik, was the founder of Ethiopia (and stole the Ark of the Covenant from Jerusalem, which is why it's still there near Axum...).

But the Ethiopian eunuch mentioned in Acts would actually have been Nubian, since at that time "Ethiopia" was used to mean the area south of Egypt. Don't tell an Ethiopian that, though...

its actually because many iseralites went to Ethiopia. Also Jews and Arabs are semetic and because Ethiopia and Arabia are so close many Arabs went to Ethiopia. Ethiopians say Bathsheba was Ethiopian but there is no proof at all, and different people say different things.

So 4 most important black civilizations?

Either way theres still some ties. Interesting place Ethiopia is I think. Was the taking of the ark before or after the babylonian invasion?
