The red coats and their Indian allies defeated the French, although by not that large a margin...

Welcome to Monro (or Munro or Monroe), the English general who surrendered at Fort William Henry and whose daughters' fate are described in the novel "The Last of the Mohicans".

This PBEM uses the scenario "The French & Indian War" that describes the last war betwen the British and French colonists in the New World with the support of their mother countries as well as the support from the native Indians.

You need to download and install the scenario (including the main art files and the patch located here : http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=165929

The version 1.0 will be released this week with a special biq file for MP with set alliances. But you can still practice and play with the current version as few things will change (one tech will be added to the British tech-tree, and one wonder spawning troops will be added to both France and the British while the tech-tree bug will be corrected).

The recruitment is starting already so we can play this PBEM as soon as the verion 1.0 is released.

Welcome on board. Just hope you are not a newbie who will let me down soon ! ;)

Any civ preference ?

Any preference regarding the number of players (between 2 to 5) ?

No preference. Maybe after I download the scenario I may take it for a spin but I am open to any. Regarding the number, 5 is the top end it seems anyway, so know 5 or less is fine. I guess I am not much help!

10-12PM GMT playing time.

Indeed I am surprised but in a nice way !

Remember the current version is still beta though and the next release (the one we will use) is more stable.

BTW Semental : are you gonna retire (or lose your job) ?

I hope we can get some other reliable people such as Greybeard, qummik or so...

I know, but I'm borrowing a dvd drive right now I have to deliver back (for some reason my own dvd drive doesn't work with my civ4 disc.. it just makes weird clicking noises). I would like to copy the civ4 dvd to harddrive using cdspace or similar, but I can't get it to work.

So I can't play Civ4 until I get a new dvd drive I guess. I also don't want to play anything but multiplayer scenarios.

I think I'd like to try an indian tribe - which one is most interesting or powerful, the Iroquois?

I am interested in playing this scenario. It has always been a part of history that interests me. I have downloaded it and will try a few games to get familiar it.

Lou, you know we long for your experimental versions. They are so... surprising!

Yes, there could be a forced retirement in my future. :D

I see that we could be renewing old alliances or creating new ones.

Actually we could play with 4 people.

One could play France, one the British, one the Iroquois and one the Hurons. The Alqgonquins could either be played by the one who plays Hurons or by the AI (as it is a bit farther from the main battlefields).

Well, hope there won't be too many surprises. Basically the scenario is quite simple so no big problems ahead hopefully.

Among the Indian tribes the Iroquois are interesting because of their positions and special resources. And they are all gathered in one small area. But they are quite close to the French.

In the standard scenario, Algonquins and Iroquois are not in locked alliance but the Europeans can trade with them some strategical resources that make them nearly automatically allies of France and the British respectively, with the possibility for the Iroquois of getting later units with resources both France and England have which means a change of alliance is definitely possible.

We could play that but considering what happened in Alba, it might be best in PBEMs to draw alliance lines clearly from the beginning.

Greybeard, welcome. Long time we haven't played together.

I don't understand what you mean by what happened in Alba? Either way it's fine with locked alliances for me, I'd like to be Iroquois unless someone else is interested in them too :)

If it's ok I might not look at the scenario and just see what happens in our game as we play..

Alba : I meant that we actually separated along two lines : Scotland with the catholics, Maghrib with the Protestants. It could have been different in a single player game but in a human PBEM with two main sides, all the others sure join in quickly one or the other.

Should we stick to 4 ?

I have no preference for civ. Greybeard and Semental can take France, England or Hurons.
And should the person who plays the Hurons also play the Algonquins or should we leave them as an AI ally to the French... ??? It could mean a difference in starting units for France.

Four players seem to work well in our games for turnaround time. We just need to figure out where to fit in Greybeard in the turn order then.

I don't know about the Hurons and Algonquins in terms of effect on game balance, but my preference is to avoid any AI as they always get exploited by human players. So maybe you can give them to the same player and just weaken that side a bit if needed?

That's fine with me.

So the game is full. Now I just need Greybeard and Semental to state their preferences. Personally I would prefer to be on the French side (for obvious reasons ;) ) but what civ I don't care. And if Greybeard and Semental both want to be in the "French team" I will play the Brits with no problem.

It says no active diplomacy with the neutral indians. Does that mean that we can accept a deal with them if they offer it to us? Or no deals with them at all?

We can accept deals from them but since they cannot propose any alliance or ROP or whatever, their offers will definitely be limited.

BTW uploaded the patch to v1.0.

Please try it ASAP. If it works fine and once Greybeard and Semental have given their preferences we can start.

Well, ouch!

I just tried loading as the Iroquois and their units are so weak compared to the French and English! It looks like they won't be able to play much of a role..

Yes, but French can only build militias, coureurs des bois and chasseurs (very expensive) and militias and trappers for the British. All other troops are either there at star-up or are generated in "Europe" whereas the Indians can actually build their troops. But you sure to need to be careful and request British help if a large stack of regular French forces show up.
