New Wonder: The Blue Riband

This is one of my favourite wonders in my mod.

You have constructed the fastest ship to cross the North-Atlantic and win the famous trophy "The Blue Riband". Your ships gain (at least) one movement point. Why? - Because you have the fastest ship in the world and every single sailor in your navy is proud of it (Magellan go home, you are getting obsolete!).

How I like these big old ships!

Edited: In post 10 there are new civiopedia icons (small and large) for the USS United States.

An interesting concept and a nice ship

Thank you very much! I just thought I ´m the only one who likes this ship.

For the concept: As the race for the blue riband was a long and very spectacular contest with a lot of famous ships as winners, there is indeed one more wonder about that theme (and one more ship) in my mod. There is one ocean giant at the beginning of the industrial era with ironclad / screw propeller-tech (at time the still existing wonder Mauretannia) and the USS United States at the beginning of the modern era with plastics-tech. Each one gives +1 naval movement. With the tech of the industrial ocean giant Magellan is getting obsolete, with the tech for the USS United States the industrial ocean giant wonder is getting obsolete.

That would be an interesting monument to see.

Nice idea. Might I suggest adding a touch of shadow to the civilopedia icon?
Also, if you can find a 3d model of the ship, I can make you a slightly better icon... since it would include a more proportional shape to the ship (yes it would be more shipshape... no please stop with the slapping )

Hi Bjornlo,

I´m not so talented with graphics (as I can´t invest too much time in improving these skills) and highly appreciate any improvement of this ship-wonder - or any other of these marvellous ships that fought fore the blue riband. So you (or anybody else who tries it) are more than welcome, if you can do a better version of this wonder or more of these blue riband-wonder-ships. I will download these new wonders at once. But unfortunately I have no 3d model of that ship.

Which mod is this for? It looks really nice.

It is for my mod .The working title is "Civ 3 Revisited" and focuses in several new playing concepts for the epic game in Civ 3. The blue riband-"thingie" is only one of the minor concepts in this mod. I will tell more about it when I´m done with my job in SOE which at time has absolute priority.

AlCosta, thank you that you find it looking nice . But I think Bjornlo is right, that it can be done much better. If we can get some better looking "blue-riband wonder-ships", than this threat has done more than I did expect. I did this ship-wonder, as there only exists the "Mauretannia-wonder-ship" in the civ-archives and I did need at least one more of these ships for my mod (some more would be better). One for the industrial era and one for the modern era.

Here are some better looking icons (Large and Small) for the SS United States (without 3d-model). Suggestions for the "Blue Riband"-wonder and the wonder-splash are in post 1.

The SS United States is a mighty grand ship, with lovely lines and speed. I commend the notion of such a wonder.
