The Evil that is Sweeden:
(OOC: Was getting characters ready for the IT, but it looks like it isn't happening. Ah well- this is still useable.)
(EDIT: The Farow seemed to think it was alright if i tried to even things out by sheer weight of story bonuses. So here goes)
Maria looked as her home burned. Everything- her life, her possesions. Everything. It had been lost- lost to those evil Swedes. And why? Because they suspected that the Prussian leaders were vaguely considering an expedition into the Baltic. Nonsense- utter nonense. But then why? Why would people be so evil?
She looked at the burning city of Koingsberg. That was everything she had- nothing was left for her now. Her husband was a soldier, killed defending his king. Her brother was a bribed official- the only one to escape execution, as it happened. Her young children had died of fatiuge on the journey.
One baby was left. And it was dying. Crying all the way, it suffered against the heat of the sun- it was too hot. It wasn't hers, but her brother's. Maria no longer produced milk- she was 50 years old, and coming close to dying of fatiuge herself.
She thought of her brother, Hermann. Why had he taken bribes? Why had he betrayed his country so easily- he was no fool. He must have known that the Swedes would have been forced to retreat, and that he would go into exile. Why do it?
Hermann walked into the court at Stockholm. He bowed before the throne. "My new king"
The King looked at him. "Ah yes, you're a clever one. You escaped the Prussian purge when we fled Koingsberg?"
"Yes, i was a stoaway."
"So, i'm intrested. Why do people like you defect?"
"You offer gold greater then any man can hope to get by any other means. Gold corrupts all men."
King Rites smiled.
"Not quite all men, as my latest scrap with the Commoner's Guild proved. Anyway, do you have any questions."
Hermann looked at him, right in the eyes. Rites had blue eyes, but they seemed dark, somehow. As if everything good, or even partly good, had been driven away somehow. Some force- some force more powerful then gold. He knew what he wanted to ask, but did he dare ask it?
"What- what is it!"
"Er, maybye not..."
"Ask it!"
Hermann was shocked. "Er, yes, then, very well." he said.
"Get on with it!"
"Erm, sir, i don't quite know how to put this but, why did you attack?"
"Prussia's existence was contrary to our intrests."
"You know what i mean- the real reason. Every tribe's existence is contrary to your existence- why Prussia?"
Hermann expected something like "Prussia is our strongest neighbour". Propaganda to try and fool him into becoming some loyal lackey.
"Glory"
Hermann continued to look him in the eye- there was more.
"A man may betray his country for wealth, but only the fool. Any man may want glory. My name shall go down in history. Screw the country, Screw Sweeden, Screw Swissia- This land is My ROAD TO POWER!"
Everyone in the room looked at him, shocked. He had said a little too much.
