In tribute to the excellent Civ 4 mod Fall From Heaven II I designed a more advanced game based on Kael's original forum game Night of the werewolves(see overview below).
Introduction to Night of the Werewolves II:
Foxford is a tiny village on the outskirts of the Elohim empire. Largely forgotten by anyone of consequence its surrounding fur and deer camps are its only real value. Still the villagers of Foxford are a decent, if not overly supersticious, lot and are accustomed to seeing their children raised to go off to wars they never return from.
Foxford was quiet until the arrival of a traveler from the elven lands. This was no elf, but a man named Duin who carried a thick oak cudgel and quite a few gold coins. Unaccustomed to wealthy travelers the backwater inn and tavern were delighted to have his company, and sorry to see him go the following day. They wouldn't know until later that this man left more than gold in the village.
Will the villagers be able to work together to hunt down the werewolves or will petty feuds and personal politics ruin the villager’s chance of reclaiming their village?
Basic Game:
While in Foxford, Duin turned three of the villagers into werewolves. Every night these three will turn into werewolves and kill a villager of their choice. The next morning the death will be announced and the villagers will be able to vote on who should be lynched. The person with the most votes is lynched and I will reveal if that person was a werewolf or a villager.
Overview of the game:
- There are 3 werewolves and 19 villagers (who include the 3 werewolves).
- The nearly all villagers have a short storyline they are given (and which may mention other villagers' stories briefly) but you can lie or embellish on what you are given.
- This game is about team victory (werewolves vs. innocent villagers) but also individual victory.
- The available roles are:
* Acolyte
* Baker - Subanark
* Bar wench
* Blacksmith
* Carpenter (husband of the violinist) - lorgen
* Cobbler
* Farmer (husband of the herbalist)
* Farmhand
* Herbalist (wife of the farmer)
* Innkeeper
* Merchant - Endovior
* Seamstress
* Shepherd
* Stableboy
* Tanner
* Tavern owner - Deathling
* Village drunkard - Grey Fox
* Violinist (wife of the carpenter)
* Wainwright
Unser Giftzwerg to take the last unpicked role.
- There is a role of the mayor and a role of the prophet (and another role that is opened up based on an event occurence) and these have abilities on top of your characters other abilities.
- The prophet can do his/her private scryings and seek an answer from me (via PM) once per day.
- Each night the werewolves can kill one villager and they PM me to tell me who will be killed.
- Each day the villagers can hang one villager they think is a werewolf. The villagers post their vote choice with the name in bold letters.
- I would like 19 players but I could possibly take 16 (but I would have to remove 3 roles from this list which might mean moving some people to different roles). This is because there is a random allocation of the prophet out of 4 people who otherwise have relatively bland characters. If you really don't want a bland character (who still has a +1 point ability) then PM me and I can allocate you someone instead of you choosing.
- The dead do not speak. Once you have been killed you are out of the game. Please don't share information with anyone else about the game (until it's over) either in the forum or outside of it.
- Outside of the above rule, post whatever you want. You can claim to be the prophet, you can make up lies about other players. Lying isn’t just allowed, its encouraged.
- You cannot forward PM's, use screenshots, etc to make your argument. So you could post that the prophet has contacted you in secret and told you whatever, but you cant post a screenshot of his PM, or forward that PM to anyone else. Stick just to diplomacy and deception to make your case.
Being a Werewolf:
The roles of werewolves are randomly assigned.
All three werewolves will know who each other are and will have to come to concensus each night on who they want to kill. Outside of that they act as normal villagers, are able to vote for lynching and even take on roles such mayor.
Being the Mayor:
The mayor has the deciding vote in any hangings, if s/he doesn't decide in time then I randomly allocate one of the players in the vote tie to be hung. The mayor will also be given some more information in game. I will randomly allocate the mayor at the start of the game. The mayor must PM me with his/her choice of successor should s/he be killed by werewolves. If the mayor is a werewolf and gets hung then a new mayor is voted on.
Voting:
- I will do the hangings ever 2 days at 10PM Australian EST/Noon GMT/7AM EST. Even if I post late only the votes in by that time will count. 2 days real time equates to 1 day in game time (to help people who might not be able to post every day). All votes must be in bold or I will ignore them. Your last vote before noon GMT is the one that counts (but try to only do one vote if you can help it).
Winning:
If the game gets down to the point where there are an equal amount of werewolves to villagers the werewolves win. If all of the werewolves are killed the village wins.
Each survivor (of the winning team) gets +2 points for survival. However each character can get at least one more point for achieving a certain thing in the game (simple examples are getting a certain other person hung or getting someone else to survive if they are not a werewolf). Some characters can get a multiple extra points but their abilities are more difficult to balance it out. Therefore you almost certainly will need to achieve team victory in order to achieve individual victory.
The winner/s of the game is the person who has the most points.
Anything that I forgot/needs clarifying, please ask me.
