PH06: One is the Loneliest Number!

Okay, about now, Fox is 3 drinks to the wind, and hitting on some hapless airline steward...stewardESS, stewardESS i mean ;)

The worst part of my turnset was the brevity. I, being the humble and generous 'SG captain' that i am ;) just played 5 turns to even us up. It was either that or 15 and i've just been beat all weak. It really annoyed me, though. oh no, not that i only played 5 turns, i'm angry it took me this long to report about such a short set :mad:

The whole focus of my set was Athens. The short report: it's gone. The long one to come.

My set started off with a visit from several friends:

I took each deal except to cancel w/Cathy.

With that in mind, i stop reserach on Currency (i changed it from HR)

Now, some of you may think that I'm a pretty good warmonger . . . or at least, that i'm better at war than i am at peace, but really, a lot of my 'skill' comes from ample supplication before the RNGod. However, the other night, after a few beers, i accidently pissed all over the altar. Here's a nice show of the battles i lost which, in most cases, i would've won:

We did, however, get this:
320ggzt7.jpg

I sent him south to sleep for group discussion.

Here's a battle i won at (now) questionable odds:

And back to the sucking:
335praetgy8.jpg

Now THIS one made me angry:
335praet2tj5.jpg

There were other losses, to be sure. Here's a nice shot of me stabbing a swordsman:
335spearyb4.jpg

Now, the Battle of Athens took place over several turns. I was hoping to deliver the coup de grace (read as 'gracie') finally except:
335tooshortgo9.jpg

That's right, one too short!

Next turn, though:
350bg5.jpg

FINALLY!! I razed it, of course.

We have that settler that was sleeping moving westward, and it'll be ready to settle next turn in the area of Athens. There was not much else to do. I first MM'ed every city to emphasize commerce to combat our poor finances, and then later just took it off the emphases in all cities. THey could use w/the ol' Fox once-over.

So we slaughtered all those people. That it'll teach him for starting a war. I think too these days they call them "flight attendants" now don't they? I do remember the terminology steward/stewardess but that's from many moons ago.

There probably isn't much left of Alexander now so we might as well finish him off. That would be one partner gone. (geez and we pick on the gay couple). There will be protests at Rome by all the gay activist.

well, to be fair, we're attacking him b/c he's an a-hole, not b/c he like it in the -- er, that is to say, not b/c he's gay ;) :)

i wonder how many cities he has now? It's tough to see w/our total lack of exploration :D

@Karr
That avatar is hilarious. Can stop laughing man.......

i think the title is 10 times funnier! :rotfl:

Are you ready for some Hitlerrrrrrrrrrr! :lol: :lol: :lol:

They call them cabin crew ... I call them Singapore Girls ...

Anyway, back to loneliness ....

I MM'ed the cities a bit to reduce growth and have more hammers and commerce. Manage to break even at 60% science ... that is until I settled New Athens:

Lonely-AD0365-new-athens.jpg

The new city doesn't hurt our economy too much. Great.

Although pholky said something about discussing what to do with the general, but as usual he is ignored. Well, we are lonely and all that, there is no one to discuss with. So, my left brain discussed it with my right, and decided to turn a CR3 praet into a Warlord ...

Lonely-AD0360-warlords.jpg

I liberated the Corinth from the unnatural sex forced upon them ...

Lonely-AD0410-Corinth.jpg

and teach these guys how to lead a straight life ... what better way then to dial Cathy up ...

Lonely-AD0455-cathy-trade.jpg

Well, to be perfectly honest, she dialed me up. Apparently, she heard about our newly liberated group of mancho guys and decided she wants a riding lesson ... the happiness she is willing to give us for that would do our lonely empire much good. So I agreed. Just remember to cancel it once we can hold on to ourselves without her help ... such as when we take the Jewish holy city.

Here are the forces for that purpose:

Lonely-AD0500-forces.jpg

Alex should be down to that single city. Before we derived pleasure from cathy, I started a forum ... that is swapped out to a praet once the unhappiness issue is gone. That's why there is a forum queued.

I did not whip throughout my turns, so next player is free to unleash his wildest dreams ...

I believe i(m the next player.
Got the game, i'll be playing sometime this afternoon.

Nice ~ i wonder if, for the romans, attaching the GGs to Praets is the best strategy . . . i don't think we should keep Alex's (hopefully) last city.

Looking ahead, I wonder if we should head north over that tiny sea and take out Victoria next? I guess we'll leave that up to Furrie and Karr. I know during my set, i had a trireme moving around england ~ Fox, i know you were busy rampaging against the Greek, but any clue as to its whereabouts?

Right, I've played my turns.
I didn't manage to take Sparta, too many units and I didn't want to use ours.
My report will be short and without screenshots because i'm on smallband.

T1: Antium: Catapult -> Catapult

T2: Code of Laws Researched -> Alphabet

T5: Rome: Forum -> Monument
Alexander jas Longbows !

T6: Neapolis: Cattapult -> Library

T8: Rome: Monoment -> Praetorian
New Athens: Monument -> Barracks

T10: Antium: Catapult -> Catapult

Should we keep trying to take Sparta or extoct some techs?
karr is up I believe :)

The trireme you had is not in england, my dear, is at Asoka's land ... it is only during my turnset that I moved it to England. It is on its way to circumnavigate the pangea, though at 2 tiles per turn, it's gonna take a long time.

Alphabet? Is that for extorting techs? Hmm ....with longbows around, it might be better to go for machinery ...

Alos it is funny that in AD500, nobody has yet built the stonehedge, Great Walls, or Pyramids :lol:

Alphabet is mainly for opening up some techs.
the Monument is Rome is indeed :smoke:.
Oh well :p

PT - Focus our cities more on growth and change some buildings. One city was still building a monument with a +3 culture output. :smoke:

IBT - Lost a catapult because it was moving alone in the open. The move was already ordered so nothing I can do. :smoke:

T1 - Alphabet done -> start Poly then check techs and maybe go for Literature for the GL. And as usual the numbers hate me and the chariot dies:

006.jpg

T2 - The English capture our barb city but all I could see on the last turn was 1 english archer there?!

007.jpg

Oh and I check the trade screens, since we have alphabet now:

008.jpg

Oh well...

T3 - Poly in but I don't start Literature. Everybody has it and it's pretty late. I start Compass(12) because nobody has it. I also checked out a Wang:

009.jpg

He's protective but for a capital that's pretty weak and it's directly south of Sparta.

T4 - Oh those bastards :mad:

010.jpg

And take a look at the English capital:

011.jpg

Looks like war is the name of the game.

And Spartas holy city culture is crushing new Athens

012.jpg

That city has to go but we're lacking catapults.

T5 - I assign 2 scientists in Rome so we can get our first GP. They produce 7 gpp thanks to the forum and we will get our GS in 22 turns. Our trireme is ripping apart Wangs as... aw I don't even want to think about that.

013.jpg

IBT - Counterattack?!

014.jpg

Nope, just a single catapult...

T6 - zzz

T7 - zzz

T8 - Alright it's time, maybe we can take Sparta:

- First 2 cats suicide or maybe not 1 retreats.
- Our big boy goes in (Alex likes that):

015.jpg

First round over, no losses for us :cool:

016.jpg

T9 - Round 2:

017.jpg

018.jpg

And without losses Sparta falls and Alexander is history once again. While war wariness spikes, we get another GG. I let him sit in Rome so we can discuss his use. The warlord really proved useful so far, but a military instructor could be nice now. Or maybe even a medic III unit, I guess we will be at war for a long time.

T10 - Nothing except some MM

Alright, that was by far my longest report ever. And I always write them by tabbing out as it happens, so that took a while. :lol: Anyway, first courthouses are done and compass will come in 2 turns. Nobody has it yet, so trade it around and get us up to date. Also I'd go straight for Seoul, it is lightly protected and our army is right there and new catapults are on the way or already there too.

nice turns everyone! I imagine we kept sparta for as its the holy city?

If we go after Wang, let's just take his capital i think. by variant, we only need to eliminate ONE of each team, so i think we could end after Pyongyang.
