Starting New Diplo/RPG Based Game

Im looking to start a Pitboss (or PBEM if we can't get anyone with a PITBOSS Sever) game, where instead of the main objective being to win or totally destroy your opponents, the main objective is to have fun.

The core of the game (and the winning part) is still present while decisions may be based on role-playing and what not. Let's not confuse this with strict role-playing though. You may want to declare war on a civ just for it's land, but if your diplomatically well-liked, you may want to be creative and invent a different reason. Such as you suspect the recent assassination in your country was done by the Intelligence Agency of the civ your declaring war on.

Anyway, sign up here with a name and email address. Put down your civ/leader preference and we will try to accommodate everyone. It's basically first come first serve basis, but if someone is willing to give up there civ/leader to someone else that would be fine. Also put down if you perfer PITBOSS or PBEM. If you have a PITBOSS Server we could use, that would be amazing.

You may join at any time. Although the slots will be filled as soon as we start the game, newcomers are welcome to join any civs that would like to have teammates (not in-game.) Existing civs do have the option to reject new comers.

All settings will be democratically decided by the people who sign-up.

I would definatly like to join this if it does go Pitboss. Warlords or Vanilla?

Seems fun. I don't have the expansions though, is it still possible to join?

Sure, Im fine with Vanilla, although I perfer Warlords.

I would like to join. My preferences would be for a pitboss game with warlords... but I could go for civ vanilla.

I forgot my preferences. PBEM, but I can do Pitboss, on Warlords. Vanilla works for me though.

Also I would rather play with pitboss.
No special civilization since then you tend to stick to your favorite and would want to try something new. Wouldn't it be nice to have all of us just play random civs?

Allright were going to start shortly. As of now there is 6 of us, so I'm thinking on these settings:

Civilization IV 1.61
Pangea Map
Standard SIze
Normal Game Speed
All Civs Random
No AI Civs
Tech Trading Allowed
Barbarians (Regular)

It will be a PBEM unless someone gives us a PITBOSS Server.

A pitboss game would be much better. Isn't there any server we can host a game on??? Somebody that has a scratch computer that could be installed with win98 and just run pitboss??

I am already hosting several Pitboss games and will not volunteer my computer for another one, as it's the only one I have.

I will also bow out if it's a PBEM, as I said before. I travel for work alot so PBEM saves would sit in my inbox for days sometiems. With Pitboss I can at least queue up actions and not slow the game down.

Then I will work on getting us a pitboss server.

Actually I have a co-located server, but I need to know if you need to install CivIV to run pitboss, or can you just run pitboss without installation.

If you need the actual game installed, I'm afraid I'll have to go around asking for someone to donate us one.

You have to install Civ, but you don't need to have the CD in there, as I recall (my CD is always in there, so I'm not totally sure, but another game I am in is being hosted by a guy who uses a work computer).

I am also already hosting a pitboss game, but since I just constructed a junk computer from my old parts, it is not that fast and I do not think it will work for 2 pitboss games! Its already quite slow, but at least works.

As Fosse said, no need to have the CD in the pitboss server, and if you have any problems installing CIV4/Pitboss on the server I guess both I and Fosse can give you some valuable tips.

Thing is the server is colocated in michigan, and Im located in New York =/. I cant physically install it. Also, I forgot to mention the pc runs on linux =/

Did it start yet ? I'm definitely interested in this game, if it's Vanilla and Pitboss. No civ preference.

We havent started yet. Ill give the Pitboss server two more days. If we cant get one by then, then we'll have to do a PBEM.

I guess I'm also okay with PBEM, although I really prefer a Pitboss. I'm in GMT -3 (Brazil), by the way. Do you have a max number of players, or is it up to 18 ?

One thing I want to suggest is not to have resources on balanced. I would prefer the random standard resource distribution

Finally, can you create a personality for your leader or does it have to kinda follow the standard one Civ has ?
