G-Major 6/7

Prince is no threat, you'd better put more peaceful guys and cooperate.

I don't care about my score, I just want to be sure I don't spend all those hours on a lost game.

Yes, I've been using friendly types so that I can minimize wasted hammers on troops. In fact, I even went for Financial AI's with the hope that they would help keep the research pace up. Didn't matter, they still lagged so far behind. I end up gifting techs... helps them stay friendly, also increases the chance they might research the odd tech for you.

Currently halfway through a game as Saladin. I expect the date will be fairly slow. Playing as Saladin because I picked the 10 required opponents, and forgot to pick my own. First start had stone nearby, and randomly chose Saladin, so I played it. I have an occasional bug that turns all the improvements on terrain black, so I quit out and checked email, forums, etc. Back to playing now, and hopefully bug has disappeared.

1848 finish, very slow. Underestimated the power of a pair of shrines + grocer, market, bank & wall street in my capital. I ran 100% science virtually the entire game, the only exception was the last few turns before discovering currency. I dropped a couple of cities into gaps near the end, but I was still at only -50gpt at that point, and with 8000 or so in the bank, it wasn't an issue.

And I was even slower playing Vanilla. 1899 as Catherine. I stuffed up my initial trades, and traded away alphabet, which led to me missing the great library. I also has some issues because this was my first vanilla game.

I just submitted a 1833 finish date.

@all:
Did you also gift techs like hell and even then they just won't research for you?
When I started my spaceship, some civs (all still alive, only 2 short wars) had half the parts for the spaceship built, but I think it's almost no difference to not gifting so much.

@WastinTime:
-How did you get your 13 cities?
-Did you take barb-cities or had a war?

Do you think a bigger empire pays off? I kept it small (9 cities), played Lizzy and was able to run on ~97% research, so almost always 100%.

I captured 2 cities in my last game (because one had Pyramids/Sistine). Otherwise, I don't usually go to war much.

A big empire is necessary! You can't grow too fast to soon, but big is better for the end of the game. If the goal was cultural or Diplomatic, the game is over before you need to get too big. Space race games are always better off with bigger. The trick is figuring out how to get bigger late in the game and not have to build so much military. That's why I get stuck around 13 cities when I should have 15-18.

I just submitted a painful 1930 SS victory in Warlords (Roosevelt).

First of all a question: how can you detect my submission is related to this gauntlet? i suppose i my date will be the worse, but just to know.

Then some thoughts about this game: i tried some other leader (HC, MM), but probably due to the starting position i prefer to quite around the end of BC years.

AIs are damn warmonger, and i remember an Immortal GotM that was a lot easier than this.

AIs showed the prince limits only in the very late game, when i was far ahead in techs, despite my tiny nation.
At this level, but also on monarch, usually when i get Marines and tanks AI has rifles and cannons... not this game.

Probably i made some early mistakes like the placement of my 2nd city, and to not be enough aggressive in the ancient ages, but i never has a far tech advantage, or enough production to support an aggressive strategy.

Anyway, a good way to improve my skills, but before this i didn't think they needed a soooo big improvement.

Which timezone is used for the submission?

edit: Never mind, I've submitted my crappy 1941 Alexander (don't ask :p) win.

There's no way I'm updating the HOF on Christmas Day, maybe a few days after.

This Major seems to have been popular. If I extended the deadline as a Christmas present to you guys, would anyone give it another go? I could bump it to 1/9...

When I do update, there will be a Minor added, but it'll be on the easy side.

Well, could you still announce the next G-minor earlier, for the people who only need that to become quattromaster?

So that would be 9 januari?
That would mean that vanilla players couldn't play a G-Minor from the 10th of November (G-Minor 10) until the 9th of Januari! That's a long time.

I think he means the 25th update which will probably be the 26th. ;)
