Hi folks. I am new to this forum, but it looks cool. I need some help for a communist-era scenario for Romania. Does anyone know exactly where the Soviet troop garrisons were located in Romania?

I already know they were present in cities like Iasi, Timisoara, Bucharest (on the outskirts of the city), and Cluj. But where, exactly? Were they right in the center of each city or on the outskirts (like Bucharest)? Does anyone know where to get this kind of specific information?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello and welcome to CFC Dimitrije! :D [party]

I would definitely be interested in this scenario, I guess you are making it for civ, right? What version?

I think Constanta was garrisoned with Soviet troops for some time too, but the communist period lasted 50 years, so when exactly does your scenario start?

Hi Mirc!

I'm going with Civ4 for this. What do you think? Yeah, I knew about Constanta. Still need to find out more about Bucharest, Cluj, Iasi, and Timisoara.

Hey, are you really in Bucharest? I've heard that there were Soviet troops "on the outskirts of the city, on the road to Otopeni." Do you know of any military museums in Bucharest that I could consult?

Or maybe any university professors of history or political science?

Somebody in Romania has gotta know. If you can help me out, it would be fantastic! Thanks.

Yes I am really from Bucharest. :D

I'll see if I can find anything that can help you. I wonder if the National History Museum (Muzeul de Istorie) has a site..... I could even go there and check myself, but it's pretty far from my place. :)

I'm sorry this is for Civ4, I don't play it. :( Still maybe I'll give Civ4 a shot again if I buy a new computer in February (though a bad computer is not actually the reason why I don't play it, it runs acceptable on mine)

There were soviet troops in Bucharest, I think at Otopeni, but there were also in Oradea, Timisoara, Brasov (renamed Stalin during that period), Targu Mures and Galati. All soviet troops left in 1958 though, so be careful about the timing.

 And not only that Brasov was renamed Stalin, they chopped trees from the Tampa hill (has nothing to do with the Tampa from across the ocean, actually it has a special character but I can't write it, it looks like Ta^mpa ;)), so that you could see from most places in the city a huge "Stalin" on the hill. And many years after replanting the trees the name was still visible, as the trees had a different color there.

Thanks you guys. Um....so how close is Otopeni from Bucharest? That's the name of the airport, right?

Funny story about Tampa. Maybe I can incorporate it somehow...

It's 18 km from the center of the city, and the diameter of the city is about 20 km, so it's about 10 km from where the city ends. :)
