Battlewalker v.2

Back in November Stormrage won my unit lottery and I just now finished it after putting it off for months.
It wasn't as 'painful' to make as I thought it was going to be. The hardest parts were the run and then afterwards all the different palletes I needed to make. Just 1 would not be enough. I including 2 deaths and 2 defaults, depending on how detailed you want it. This is the largest unit I've made at over 4 megs zipped, and with no sounds.

I am really really really happy with how this turned out.

What the L5 Riesig Battlewalker loses in forward velocity, it makes up for ten-fold in offensive potency and scope. The bipedal configuration of this next generation assault unit enables it to traverse almost all terrains while its elevated vantage point, providing long distance viewing and multi-directional targeting, gives it a significant advantage over low height, horizontally-based agents. Manned by two occupants, the Battlewalker is outfitted with an array of weaponry, including two rapid-fire cannons and a dual-arena, infrared homing missile system. The Battlewalker armor is multi-layered, combining steel and reinforced plastic laminates with kinetic energy and heat absorbing materials. An automatic Active Defense System assists in resisting off air and ground fired rocket attacks.

If you'd like to know how big it is... according to my tank scale, it's 2.3m or 10.5 feet long. I didn't measure how tall yet. I think that sounds about right for what it is in the game BF2142. I did not scale it from the start, I just eyeballed what looked like a perfect size, not too big, not too small.

Well I can see why you are happy with it! That death is absolutely spectacular. I may have to break down and actually add mechs now to a modded epic game.

The animations are spectacularly good, especially the death. Love the unit. :goodjob: It's so much more realistic than gundams and the other mechs that are available - it would actually work as an addition to the epic game.

I know that mechanical units don't often win unit of the month, but I can't imagine that there would be anything I would rather vote for this month. At least, not now that the beaver worker is done and dusted. ;)

Bhitta's Mechwalker is still my favorite. This one is incredible though

Just to extend this further, death animation is amazing, like really, a most-original-death-ever contest would be hard pressed putting that in second. Jump jets are a wonderful addition, didn't see those coming at all. Almost get the sense it's whistling some army tune while it's walking, it's got that fun little bounce to it.

Yeah, seriously, this is great, you should be happy with it, makes me anxious to get back into the Mech industry, but also glad I won't be going up against this thing in this month's competitions.

Sometimes I really wonder if any other mod community has anything nearly as impressive as Civ3 Creation and Customization.:D

Excellent! Now I've just got to add it to the FF mod....

BTW, mind if I cook up some sounds for you?

So awsomely well animated! And still so ugly! :D

Nice Job!

Not to sound like a broken record, but he does indeed strut, as he should. And the death flic is so amazingly great, that I would put them in the game as barbs or as cheap-to-build, low hit-point, weak units just to be able to see the death animation over and over!

Great job, Wyrm! :goodjob:

Thank you all for the kind words. Normally I don't like all the butt kissing but that's not what this is. I'm more surprised than anyone at how well this turned out. The only thing I have against it is that the civ colors in the pallete didn't turn out perfect. They did when I first previewed them but after I exported, it had dark lines around everything.

And the only thing 'new' about the death are the blue plasma balls. The other explosions are my stock ones I've been using this past year for my SOE things. The large mushroom plume is what I did for my new Montana BB.

I actually borrowed his walker so I could make a good walk. I had some plug-ins missing so it went all to crap, but I got the inital pose and just worked from there. There is a bit of a jerky bounce coming from the right leg but smooth from the left. It's annoying to me, but I can live with it.

I totally missed this release! :)
Well, I usually couldn't care less for any mecha/robot/future thingies... but the craftsmanship that went into this unit is inspiring. Not only is this a showcase for where you are as a unit creator today, but it also highlights the possibilities Bryce offers.
With this unit, you clearly stirred my curiosity to explore what Bryce can do for me. Thanks!

YIPPPEEE!!! Someone just bought this model off Turbosquid.
