A modern French Foreign Legionary that uses marine animations. GarretSidzaka reboned the modern worker to a marine, and asio created the FAMAS model.

I gave the Foreign Legionary new textures and a new cap :D

Below is the picture I based it off, and an ingame screenshot.

Great unit and reskin :). I'm also courious how did you get this "bloody mess" effect - is this postproduced in 2D program or effect from the game? :)
 
Yup it would have interesting usage :)
I must learn someday how the effects are made for civ4 :)
 
Yeah, that would be how it could be done.. the only thing is you would have to change all the animations for every unit to include the blood effect in their death animations.
 
I don't know if it's 100% possible and how it's made - but i think GarretSidzaka changed and removed effects from units
 
When I was making this unit I noticed that the bullet fire was an effect and I needed to move it back so it aligned with your FAMAS. I'm not sure how you would make the effect though, or how you would configure it to only play when it's attacking/dying. It's easy to delete effects or change them with other vanilla effects though, the hard bit would be making a new one and making it only happen at a certain time (when dying). I think.
Maybe you could change the colour of a vanilla effect to red (like the bullet fire) and make it trigger when dying?

yes, but i have yet to create an effect in a nif file for instance "nuke" instead of "bomber bomb". but i know where the reference in the xml is, incase you want to relocate a "shared" effect into an individual unit (for effect texturing). it is EffectsInfos.xml in the Misc folder.

Because I change the effect path with a Hexadecimal editor.

Chalid (I thinks is the only only one) have successfully created neweffect in his custom animation (The dragon is the best example).

can you make a little tutorial, maybe with a link to the hex editor you use? Coz u the man!

i never really used a hex editor. closest was maybe artmoney but that didn't even work.

Yeah, I'll check this. I tired me "new" method that I was talking about and it didn't work.

I'll have to redonwload an Hexadecimal editor (I just realize that I do not have one in my new pc) and check this method again. It will probably end up with a little tutorial.
 
Hmm, the head looks pink to my in the game, looks like i am missing texture. Anyidea what i am doing wrong?

You may have accidentally deleted the buddhist_missionary_128.dds texture, or it could have corrupted during d/l? If the famas texture is there but not the head then you'll probably have to redownload.


EDIT:

Make sure that wherever they are on your directory, the marines.nif and the marines_FX.nif are in the right places - marines.nif goes under <NIF> and marines_FX.nif goes under <SHADERNIF>.

The unit is very nice, as the FAMAS.

But i was a bit surprised when i saw it for the first time. Your Legionnary is fighting with "Parade clothes" :eek: , not with the functionnal war equipement.:eek: As a retired soldier form the French Army, i can tell you that our officiers woudn't be pleased to use such an equipement.:lol: Nevertheless, the unit is nice. I like it.:goodjob:
I hope you understand what i mean. My apologies for my poor english....:blush:

Note that in France, we only speak about The Foreign Legion. French is useless, as the real foreign legion is FRENCH, even if spain had his own.... ;)

I agree that the dress uniform is a little unconventional but maybe this unit could still be used as a French Great General, or maybe as the centre unit in the marine group (flanked by regular marines). Or you never know, the Axis could have attacked France while a parade was being held. :lol:

Also about The Foreign Legion :) the French bit is simply there so anyone who doesn't know about your culture will know that the unit can be a unique unit for France.
Some other countries do have foreign legions but we're not really interested in them anyway :D

Yes, french military culture should be widespread and I'm not afraid to hear about australian military culture as well.

Do you have mountains troops climbing and skiing amongst australian alps ?
I long ago imagined australian UU could be australian rangers or something like that ?

I think about Desert Rats from Tobruk as UU for Australia wich have fight bravely with Carpatian Mounthain Division from Poland

In equipment packs - there's british helmet (also it can be used head of machinegunner) and sten machine gun. If you need something (like cigarette ;)) i can model it. Chugginator would you like to make it? i would be glad to see this unit in WW2 1939 mod :)
