So, like, what is the deal with Animal Husbandry?

Why do you need Agriculture to get it? To simulate the need for beasts of burden evolving to domestication?

If you don't start with it, how soon do you go for it?

What is your favourite bonus? Sheeps, Pigs or cattle? Are the tiles imporvements from the pasture justified? Should they different? What would you change?

What about goats? Should we have goats? do we need goats? For the love of God, What about the goats?

Or camels? or Llamas and Alpacas? some parts of the world those are more used and cattle never existed before Colombus. Plus Alpacas are cute they really are.

What about those resoureces wandering around the map like barbs untill you discover AH? Any thoughts?

Please discuss, for the final time about the controversial topic of AH!! :mischief:

An Alpaca plot would be a nice addition to the game.

Figure +3 Happiness... there would always be a grin on citizens' faces if they looked at alpacas all day. I mean they are argueably the goofiest looking/acting animals ever.

I'm glad you brought this up, it's a very important subject.

 I thought this was a Adolph thread ... *joke*

It's good that you brought this up, because it is a viable to bring up. If you do not have any Cattle in your city boundries, how soon do you get Animal Husbandry in order to see if you have horses or not?

In Multiplayer TBG you people always seem to go BW, then AH, but in single player, when would you pick AH??

Did I start with Agriculture or Hunting? Then I go for AH.

Did I start with Animals in my capital's fat cross? Then I go for AH.

Did I start with Animals all over the damn place? Then I go for AH.

Did I start with Mining? Then I go for BW.

Did I start with Forests or Jungles all over the damn place? Then I go for BW.

Did I start with hella food resources in my capital's fat cross? Then I go for BW.

Did I start with Agriculture or Hunting and Mining? Then I go for BW.

Obviously, I still get the other eventually, but that more-or-less covers my initial thoughts when deciding which to research first.

"Why do you need Agriculture to get it?"

Because animals pull plow good.

Wouldn't that mean you need AH before Agriculture and not the other way around?

Not really. You figure out how to plant food. You then figure out that it's easier to get an animal to pull a plow than for you to do it yourself. Doesn't make much sense to figure out how to get an animal to pull a plow if you've got no reason for it to do so.

A more interesting question is why slavery is enabled by Bronze working? and not Animal Husbandry!?

I mean.. slavery is in essence treating people like animals... so AH is clearly the better choice?

We don't need a shiny big axe to make slaves work! Just a :whipped: which we used on other "animals" earlier with great effect! :D

AH, when I'm playing Egypt or Persia. In fact any leader on a map where barbs are going to be a big problem.

Different from the agriculture improvements in that the health benefits cant be increased until supermarkets. This also applies to Deer. Harbours and graineries give a big boost if you have the AG and fish improvements.

Edit; BTS should include goats

From the civic icon it is clearly the shackles that are made of bronze. I'm sure you could make some sort of poking device from bronze before leather whips are discovered by the wise men too.

EDIT: I vote goats too, with spices you could make goat curry for extra happiness.

Actually there could be "recipe scenario" where the , Chinese get victory points if they have rice, pigs, spices. Szechuan Pork on Rice . Aztecs, banana curry.... the list goes on.

... and hunting is required to go camp or seek beaver too, a few different tech paths opened up there I think. You can get the horn from elephants as well, a triple win!

So we need potatoes for us Brits then (have to bring them back from the aztecs I suppose, otherwise it's all turnips before then, -1 happiness), cow + potatoes = hotpot or pie and chips.

Also there should be a chicken tile giving the egg resource, or vice versa

 Genuine laugh out loud moment.

Back to the OP, you forgot horse as an improvement. It gives big hammers. I Like cows for the hammers too.

Similar topic, what is the difference if any between clams and fish? I think we need a comprehensive improvements guide... William?

Well, why does wine require Monarchy? Did the first wine maker only made wine to get the citizens drunk and have them elect him king? And you need Calendar to eat bananas?

Citizen Grocer (assuming Guilds is researched): "Uh, we won't go and check out the banana trees until we figure out an exact way to predict when the banana season is!"
Lord: "Alright, off the slave camps, then, you good-for-nothing!"

you can eat bananas right from the start : the tile gives +1 food, remember.
You just can't grow them without a calendar (=building the plantation).
It's not a good reason, if you ask me, but at least it has some logic.

As for the wine, I really don't understand the link to monarchy.
"No sir, I can't eat those grapes and I certainly won't drink it's juice!" "Yes, you will. If you don't, the king's troops will put you in jail."
"OK. hey, it's not that bad, if you wait long enough before drinking the juice!"

True. But the bananas grow quite well in the wild. No reason the city can't get the health benefits unless you build a plantation.

Or maybe they only had reason to make wine when kings had to find some way to entertain their nobles
