THE CIV OF THE WEEK MAIN THREAD HAS MOVED HERE
Civ of the Week is a project aiming at bringing you a new, fresh, exotic, and most of all, random, civ every 1-2 weeks, from all corners of the globe, from the Vietnamese to the Mittanni to the Iraqis.
Each civilization will be available in vanilla and warlords, and will feature full civilopedia text entires, 1-2 leaders, a UU, a UB, audio, and full graphics.
Because of the quick speed at which the civs are produced, they may not be as high quality as other well-planned custom civs, but hopefully, the civs will be playable at a decently enjoyable level.
The purpose of Civ of the Week, then, is two-fold:
1. To bring you random civs that would probably not have been chosen as civilizations first of all, and to provide a new, more exotic, more interesting experience in choosing civilizations.
2. To promote more knowledge of lesser-known peoples, cultures, and histories.
Otherwise, then, enjoy!
This weeks civ is:
VIETNAM
To install, simply put the folder in the zip in your mod folder.
Name: Vietnamese Empire
Description: The Vietnamese are a hardy race, known famous worldwide for being, somehow, able to take on superpowers and regional powers in a defensive fight.
Vietnam, however, is more than the Vietnam War, and has a long history going back to 2000 BCE, according to most legends. It was conquered by Han China in 111 BCE, and was pretty much another province of China for about 1000 years, with small periods of independence, the most famous being the Trung's sisters' rebellion (40-43 CE), and the First Ly Dynasty (c. 500s CE). In 939 CE, the Vietnamese were able to sucessfully gain complete independence from China.
Leaders:
Quang Truong (Expansive, Creative) (Favorite Civic Bureaucracy)
Trung Trac (Aggressive, Organized) (Favorite Civic Nationhood)
UU:
Vietnamese Warrior (Replaces Maceman) Starts with Amphibious and Woodsman II promotions, and one first strike
UB (for warlords version):
Noodle House (Supermarket) - +2
Other notes:
- For those who still like the VietCong, a flavor unit, replacing the marine, is also included.
- WARNING: FOR WARLORDS VERSION, BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE WARLORDS MYSELF, I AM UNABLE TO TEST THIS VERSION. PLEASE REPORT ANY BUGS OR ISSUES
Thanks to:
- White, Rabbit for the originally Chinese swordsman
- GarretSidzaka for the VietCong unit
- Charcoal and White, Rabbit for their tutorials

A Vietnamese civilization had been previously made by Q-Meister, but it seems he has stopped updating it. Expectedly, the civilization had a modern focus, with Ho Chi Minh as leader and the VietCong as the UU.Vietnam, however, is more than the Vietnam War, and has a long history going back to 2000 BCE, according to most legends.
Following this, the Tran dynasty ruled Vietnam, bringing it to one of its first peaks of regional power. However, the Tran dynasty slowly collapsed after a sucessful defense against three Mongol invasions. It finally ended, and years after that, in 1408 CE, the Ming dynasty of China invaded and conquered Vietnam.
The Vietnamese, under the new Le Dynasty, kicked out the Ming by 1425 CE, and the most able dynasty ruled Vietnam for more than two centuries. However, by the 1600s, Vietnam had fallen under civil war, and remained in that state even up to the late 1700s.
The Tay Son brothers, in the 1780s, led a sucessful rebellion to overthrow their rulers, the Nguyen faction. The ablest became the Emperor Quang Truong, and was able to nearly reunify Vietnam, defeat the Qing and the Thai, and plan for his invasion of China, which, had he not died young, been quite a sucess.
After Quang Truong's death, the Nguyen returned to their lands and reunified Vietnam with French help. This, however, only made the French more interested in colonizing Vietnam, and by the mid-1800s, under various pretexts, they did just so, and Vietnam became another colony of the imperialistic ambitions of France.
However, various rebellions and revolts came through in the early 1900s, the most sucessful, being, obviously, the communists. After World War II, when France refused to give up Vietnam as a colony, the communists dealt a blow to the French at the battle of Dien Bien Phu. France gave up Vietnam, and the country was by international law split into two separate states - North Vietnam and South Vietnam.
And this then was the beginning of the infamous Vietnam War, which I need not elaborate on. After the war, the Vietnamese repelled a Chinese invasion.
Today, Vietnam is an emerging international country, with a growing economy. However, the fact that the Vietnamese hatred of China runs in their blood and veins will keep Vietnam from buddying up with China, and a friendship with America is plausible. Still, Vietnam is ruled by communists.Leaders:
