thks all, with respect to the formation, i must also thk Seal's formations and Sezereth's regiments. by looking at thier FormationInfos.xml and various good threads, i learned that the x,y values are basically coordinates, with 0,0 being the center of the circle and +/- numbers radiating out along x and y axis....a pic is worth a thousand words, so check out the thumb.....
my cavalry units are where the yellow "x"s are, the coordinates are: 0,0.3/0.5,0.3/0,-0.2/0.5,-0.2/-0.5,-0.2/0.5,-0.8/0,-0.8

With that information you could proceed to write a tutorial for creating custom unit formations. I would suggest you do that, so that this information doesn't get lost in the thread but can be easily found later on.
