I just wanted to announce that I uploaded five new units into the database. They are all Qizilbash themed as I was doing ohcrapitsnico’s request. Though I guess they could be used as placeholders for any middle-eastern units during the High Middle Ages or the Renaissance.
ohcrapitsnico stated that the Qizilbash were a diverse fighting force as far as weapons were concerned so I did a basic Middle Ages recap with them. “He?” posted pictures of about four uniforms and I made three of them. Since they are all in the Janissary.dds file, you can easily switch the uniforms between the units, so if you love the red uniform on the swordsman you can give it to them all. It’s the same with the Qizhead.dds.

These were pretty fun to make. The skinnings not that much as usually but I hope at least ohcrapitsnico gets some use out of them. Please post and tell me if anything is wrong.
Screenshots are in the links as always.

@ohcrapitsnico
Sorry if the information on the download page is inaccurate, but the truth is, I felt like I had to at least try to give some small explanation of just what is a Qizilbash. People may become offended if I start uploading weird sounding bull. If it's anything too stupid or incorrect tell me what to change.

They look great, Bakuel, nice job!

Thanks so much for taking my requests.:goodjob:

I think they look awesome, I only expected one so I will have to try to squeeze all of them into my mod.:) ;)

@CC-2224
Thanks for the kind words! :)

@ohcrapitsnico
I'm glad you like them! Put them all in I say! What mod are you working on anyhow? Another Persia one? Or something "bigger"?

Great Turkish flavor units! I especially like the Horseman :goodjob:

I wouldn't really think they'd be good for Turkish flavor units... they were fighting the Ottomans in fact. I'd say Persia would be better; although since Persia in the game represents Achaemenid Persia, I don't know abotu them either...

They look great though! :thumbsup:

Well hey, the HRE got in who knows...the safavids are just as likely of getting in.:) ;)

@sepamu92
Thanks! I perfer the horseman myself as well. :)

@Dom Pedro II
I was of the opinion that Persia should be like India and China (now also in a way Ethiopia) and represent the whole history of the region till modern times. I know the history and peoples of the region of Persia or Iran are diverse, but lumping them all together can't be much worse then lumping India and all their numerous kingdoms, peoples and languages together can it? It would also make it a bit more interesting.

@thomas.berubeg
Sure! I didn't know making this units would help the Arda mod though... Now you
made me curious on just what faction would use these types of units....

Probably Easterlings or Haradrim. They could end up in Warhammer as well if I ever get back on that:)

Pleo's right. :goodjob: the Harad will now have alot of unique art, and you, bakuel, your name as a contributor to the arda mod.

Well... it's difficult... in general, I'd rather have fictional modern units for Rome, for example, than Italian units. Or I'd rather have fictional Egyptian units than Arab Egyptian units from the right era.

@Ploeperpengel
I don’t mean to push but you should get back to the Warhammer mod soon, when I was a humble lurker that was one of the mods that I was waiting to be released. It would be a pity if such an interesting concept just set and gather dust.

@thomas.berubeg
I’m honored! :hatsoff: Nothing feels better then having your name in the credits of a mod without having to touch one bit of python or XML…. ;)

@Dom Pedro II
That’s a good point. Of course the ancient Egyptians where nothing like the Arab Egyptians, there culture, religion and even the basic way they structured their societies were completely different. I always think it’s weird to play mods and to be using Hatty while leading Mamluks to victory.
While on the other hand we have civs such as China, which have a basic culture which, even though changes throughout the ages, some underlining principles remain the same. With China you could use any solider from practically any dynasty without it looking too weird (Han for classical, Tang and Song for Middle Ages, etc). Now that I think about it guess Persia may be more like Egypt then China I suppose. Anything later then the Sassanid dynasty is probably pushing it.

Hmmm… It may be a bit hard thinking up fictional Egyptian and Roman units though…. How would an Egyptian Knight look? And musketmen? I wonder… :hmm:

I love that idea.:) But...Firaxis isn't going to use a lot creativity and work just for a little flavor.;) Hopefully those type of units appear on the forums....

Try Horus helmet for Egyptian khnights !

There's some great Egyptian units made for Civ3, one was made by what was at the time a bright-eyed, young up-and-comer named Dom Pedro II ;)

They would serve well as inspiration for Civ4 designers.

What, exactly, is a Qizilbash?

Thx. But unfortunatly my time is short and without a programmer or becoming one myself I can't do much about it anyway atm. The whole team desintegrated and such an ambicious project simply is to much for me alone:sad:
Maybe in some future far away...

What, exactly, is a Qizilbash?

The Qizilbash were radical shi'ite turkmen warriors, kind of like a cult possibly derived from the ismaili assassins of the crusades. They were elite warriors who served the Safavids (16th-17th centuries) up until Shah Abbas I disbanded them for their corruption. They were very powerful and undefeated until Sultan Selim of the Ottomans completely annihilated them at the battle of chaldiran with their superior guns and artillery.
