It is my belief that our great nations economy would benefit greatly from the Forbidden Palace. The question is, where do we build it?

I have no specific city to suggest, though I do believe we should place it somewhere in our northern part of our empire. To be more specific, somewhere centered on the east-west axis and halfway between the northern shores and NoneOfTheAbove.

I also call for the FP to be built this upcoming TC. We can definitely benefit from it now and it would be unwise to put if off. We have plans for war well into the future and the FP would significantly help in shaving off the costs of war. Realize my fellow citizens, our economy is just as important, if not more, than our war plans.

The next TC is Friday. That gives us several days to discuss where and when to build the FP. At that point we'll than have several days to poll it. Let's discuss.

Berlin would be the optimal location for a scalable city development, if you look on the map.

Berlin would only be best if we're going to conquer the entire continent.

I think Munich is better than Berlin. The location is comparable, but we'll be able to build it there way faster. It can be completed in 17 turns, however it will be aided by the current forest chop, that makes it about 13 turns, and if we do another chop, we can have it completed within 10 turns!

I agree. That's why we need to make some sort of consensus, do we want to control the whole continent, or not? If yes, than build it in Berlin. If no, than Munich. Of course, if it's going to be a while before we control the whole continent, it might be wise to build it in Munich for now. We can always build Versailles in Berlin later.

I think it stands between Berlin and Munich, I would prioritize Berlin, as the situation there will improve in a little bit. I also found Pisae to be a great location for Heroic Epic, with hills, soon a forge, and with the opportunity to build both land and naval units next to the Roman border, it is a good spot.

:hmm: I might do some calculations with the real formula for distance too see what would be best.

This is the formula used btw: Distance to (x,y) is floor(max(x,y) + min(x,y)/2
so to calculate all distances, you would need to use this formula with x being the x difference between the city and the forbidden palace and y the y difference.

You could do the calculations, but not rig them to sell Munich. We are comparing the option of taking the entire continent for ourselves to that of staying a bit south.

Berlin might indeed be better long-term, as especially Rome will be expensive if we do place it in Munich. Then again, Pisae and Marseilles will be expensive if we place it in Berlin.

However, I think that short-term, Munich is way better. I think that the compound interest on getting a better economy earlier will be worth it. So I'd still say that Munich is the way to go.

I think Berlin is not that long term, we just need to wait 10 more turns, that's it, and with all the wines there, it is the best option.

Berlin is more long term because it's advantage over Munich will only start when we start capturing cities like Rome and Ravenna.

It is not that long term, if we decide to take those two cities.

I will be in France for the next TC, but I think forbidden palace should be polled then. The discussion is good to have now.

I disagree. I'm thinking it needs to be built now if at all possible. The amount it would save in costs would really benefit our economy. Recall how much courthouses are helping us out? The FP would do the same thing.

What about putting the FP in Munich and later building Versailles up further north? I realize that if we settle on the other continent Versailles would be better off there, but its a thought.

If we want to build it in Munich, we should start it right now (well, Friday), so I'm going to put up a poll about this.

Good , set up the poll. And Methos, I think Pisae could work with Munich, if we get the HE there. We need a navy, and I mean it.

Actually, if we can build Versailles it would be better on our continent since there is only one of it. If we think about building it over there, it will be built by someone else.

The compound interest argument is a good one. The difference between Berlin and Munich will be very minimal, only fractions of a gpt per city.

The question is, do we manage to build Versailles first, that is a gamble, as we lag behind in tech. Then again, I would not die if Munich got it, as I think both Pisae should have HE and we should wait a bit with Rome.

About FP: I think Munich better than Berlin. Just location counts for FP, so

center north is good, since we have palace in the south.

More important, if Berlin is candidate for NE, then the other slot should not be

wasted with a NW that do not fit with (may need Globe Theater, Oxford or

Wall Street).

Best regards,

I've made a list of the distances to the citys of our continent, with FP in Munich and Berlin. I don't know which is better, it is also a question how many cities we get or raze.
