Random events - too uncommon?

Does it seem to anyone else that the random events are simply too uncommon? Maybe it's just me but I was hoping that I would have to constantly be battling problems with rebels and would find new resources and such so I'd have to constantly adapt my game play. Out of probably between 600 and 800 turns of BTS I've played (Over several different games trying out different things), I've gotten 4 random events. 1 was a quest, and 3 were bad. Now, it's probably better to have bad events then good ones (requires more strategy to handle), but does anyone else feel that it is perhaps just a little too rare?

wow.. Surprising, in my game i've gotten tons. I was starting to wonder if they were too frequent :P

Besides the 100% random ones, there's also events caused by triggers. Like modern era triggers plane crashes, war triggers the event of a friend coming for aid, mountains trigger volcanoes, coast triggers floods/hurricanes, coliseum triggers gladiator event, starving triggers the food aid event and the list goes on. But what's great about events is alot of them are relationship modifiers so now civs have more reasons to go to war.

Hmmm... Do they come much more common in late game than early game? Or were you playing Marathon, I didn't play Marathon with it yet so it may be more frequent with Marathon.

As for the options, there is a "No Random Events" option, but there's no raging random events option. It's simply on or off.

They seemed to pick up more later in the game since there is more going on, more buildings to trigger them etc.

Here's a few more events i've noticed:

- Mines losing productivity (temporary?)
- Things selling well on the market
- Research penalty because of a slowdown in research (for whatever reason)
- forest fires
- mine accidents
- Tornadoes
- Rats eating food
- Religious miracles
- War aid
- Hunger relief

That might be the reason then. Since I was constantly starting over trying out new things I never really got to the late game.

I've seen tornados and floods to other civilizations

To me I've had:
Forge destoryed
Citizens angry over slavery
Quest to build 11 stables (I was playing Mongolia then so I guess really Gers)

And I forgot the last one.

I have played monarch normal speed and I have got pretty decent with random events, I would prefer to have some more but it is still pretty decent.
I also noticed that in some events you can not choose all the options until you have invented a certain tech. like i did get some about a ice sculpture, if I had have the mass media tech I could have choosen a option that woudl have given all my cities + 150 culture.

You seem to only have had bad events, I have almost only have had good :)

Has anyone completed a quest yet? I'm curious to know what the rewards are, especially so if you build the wonder that they usually tell you gives an additional bonus.

I mean, you expect me to build 9 triremes and the Great Lighthouse when I have one coastal city? :nuke:

- slave revolts
- "joyous marriages in the Buddhist tradition has forged new bonds between the Maya and the Dutch peoples, who both adore the new couples and are pleased with the behavior of the inlaws from the other nation."....yeah
- miracles being performed that attract religious pilgrims to that city
- monsoon flooding
- markets becoming worldwide centers of global currency, bolstering profits
- bandits wrecking havoc on farmlands
- authorities from one civ catching a fugitive from justice from another
- tragic mining accidents claiming lives of miners
- conversely, gold miners "have struck the mother lode

Those are the ones I've seen in my event log

-pestilence strikes agriculture land
-thunderstorm/twister destroys improvements
-bandits wreaking havoc in farmlands

Ok, with some tinkering with a game and WorldBuilder, I managed to get a "Stable quest" completed. Here's what it gave me:
- 9 Horse Archers OR
- All Mounted Units are promoted to Sentry OR
- Stable: +1 food

Pretty nice, I'd say.

fake EDIT: My bad, +1 food

I had some events, but they weren't particularly exciting. The best was that I found a russian criminal inside my borders. I interrogated him and gained 500 espionage points against Peter.

What kind of +1? Experience?

PUT THOSE EVENTS IN SPOILERS! There are those of us who'd like to be surprised. :)

At any rate, think about this...

There are supposed to be 150 events in the game. If you get ~4 per game, that means statistically you will have to play 38 games before you get a repeat (assuming you went through every single event). For a replayable game like Civ, that's actually not that many games. If you got 10 events per game... I think you see my point.
