A couple units requested in the Pith hat from some famous battles.

Anyways, the earlier one (Zulu Wars) is in the Scarlet, the Later one (Boer and Sudan Wars) is in the Khaki.

Great work Matt!

That Helmet came out fantastic!

I love the "mustache and sideburns" work you did!

Now we have a "proper" English Rifleman... as great as some of the other uniforms are (love the "Highlander" uniform), they just aren't true "Rifleman" uniforms.... now we have two true British Riflemen.

Kudos Matt. :goodjob:

P.S.
Now the Zulu Impi have someone to fear!

Great job. That's a nice unit. Can you try to do the same for the French, Dutch,... and other colonial powers ?:p

Hey... I think you forgot to add the BUTTON for the Royal Foot (Zulu-style).

Download the button here!

P.S.
Shouldn't the British Colonial Redcoats be posing with a Zulu Impi?

Already done for the French and German Colonial Armies (see the 'Franco-Prussian" units for the 1870s version of those armies... same time-frame as the British Zulu Wars).

r!

Actually, that is Firaxis work, ever see the original Rifleman?

Impi fear nothing! :p

Wanna bet. ;) They can beat these guys when they outnumber them 16-1 and these guys cannot get ammunition at a fast enough speed, but when they outnumber them 28-1 they can't beat 'em! ;)

Terrific units GM.

Thanks. :p

Thanks, I was betting you would do one and save me the work. :p
And I had a older version posing with the Impi, but I was too lazy this time. If you want I can post some older action shot... ;)

Yeah.. And not to nitpick but by this time France and Germany were not really Colonial powers, there was just one. :p

A new button was the least I could do for you mate... I may suck at 3D stuff, but I can do a 2D button!

I must also say the unit looks even better in-game then the still shots above give credit for.

IMHO, this is the DEFINITIVE unit to replace the British Rifleman in the game... both in accurate uniform for the high-period of the British Rifle, and the quality of the 3D model. Everyone should take the poorly-placed "Redcoat" unit from BtS and use that model for the British Musketman, and use Matt's Colonial British Rifleman for the English as the rifleman replacement!

Considering all I did was the you can thank Firaxis for the rest of the model. :P

If I knew haw to make animations I would make some cool ones, like a bayonet animations for the melee...

Considering all I did was the (?helmet?) you can thank Firaxis for the rest of the model.

Firaxis gets enough thanks for the game itself, though they should definately get some sort of Raspberry for the odd decision of using what is CLEARLY an 18th Century Musket-using (Revolutionary War era) Redcoat as their model for the 19th century Rifleman. That made no-sense what-so-ever.

First mod I made to the game was switching the Firaxis "Redcoat" model back to the British Musketman... it had no place being the replacement for a Rifleman.

I decided to upload an action shots for you all..

And do you think the other guy is fit to be uploaded? I did him a while back and that is what I used for the base of this one.

France not a colonial power !!!???
Are you drunk ?

Look at that: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_colonies

And the Dutch colonial empire: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_colonies
And to finish, the German colonial empire: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_colonies

Nevertheless, your unit is very nice and will (probably) find its place in our mod.

Ok sorry, guess I am a little biased. :p By the way, I meant by that time, ie 1879.

Anyways, thanks for the images, I needed them for something I am working on (A World in 1870 Scenario..)

France and Germany had colonies into the 1950s according to those Wikipedia articles.

You happen to have some of the stuff you're drinking handy? :p

Just cause they have colonies doesn't make one a colonial power you know, I would not consider Germany a colonial Power. France was at one time though. I am not sure the exact extent of her colonies in '79 though, so maybe she was, but she would be the only one at the time besides Great Britain that were per se Colonial "Powers"..
But I guess it depends on the defenition of "power".

And no I haven't been drinking, just a little low on sleep lately, maybe that did it..

Hian... hope you saw my earlier note... there are already units made for the French and German powers in the 1870s by simply using the "Franco Prussian War" units found here:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=214549

With Matt's new unit, you can get accurate European colonial power uniforms for Britain, France and Germany all in the 1870s... that's a good start, don't you think?

Well that would be cool. ;) Not exactly, BUT I am thinking of adding a few units in american territory with the same function as the privateer.. And just hope they use them on the Empire (We are all still in the empire, number of civ's reason plus 3 years after confederation we were still dependent on the UK.

But it will also have the Zulu wars (1879) and different things in that time. Picking 1870 lets me effectively bypass the Civil War..
