As promised, the Ironclad Frigate Redux. This time I did the HMS Warrior, mainly because it was the only one I could find blueprints for and partly because I think she was the first Iron hulled ship. She still is around, docked in Portsmouth at the Museum with the immortal Victory.

Anyways.

It uses the Frigates animations and is about 1250 triangles. It's cannons do work, and it recoils etc.

Edit: On a suggestion from Civinator, I retextured 2 more historical versions in black and light black colour schemes.

Here they are. Download

The second image below is of them.

It looks great GeneralMatt! Nice model!
I could be crazy and I really am, but your skinning is improving!:goodjob:

Thanks! Maybe taking the break I did really helped.. Though I wish I could have had some colour pics, but oh well. :P

GeneralMatt, this is a nice work you have done. When you set the google search to pictures and search for HMS Warrior, you get thousands of coloured pictures (photograpics and paintings) of that ship.

Top-notch SUPERB!

Now a remake of the Ironclad Battleship!

Is it just me, or is this thing not animated? I know you said to use the frigate animations, but I can't seem to get it to work. Do the frigate kfm files need to be in the same directory? If so, can you include them in the download?

I couldn't get animations, recoils, anything to work... just a static ship.

I referanced the Frigate animations, but it didn't work:
<KFM>Art/Units/Frigate/Frigate.kfm</KFM>

I did but for some reason the pictures never load on google..
Anyways I do have a remedy though

That is funny because I had it working.. I had an exact copy of it named frigate_fx.nif though, but I just tested it out in custom assets so that might make a difference in what you need.

Thanks for the compliments all. :)

I soon post here some temporary pictures for you. So I assume you know the painting of HMS Warrior as a museumship (deep black hull with yellow-orange coloured funnels),´I have additionally a coloured drawing of this ship that fits well with a photograph I have from her in the "Conway´s 1860-1905", showing this ship in 1867 after the reduction of her bowsprit, but prior to being rearmed. Here the ship had a black-grey painting, the same colour on the hull and the funnels and in the heck a white colour with a golden frame around the windows and in the bow a white-golden figure and a white colour in the earlier years around the structure that was leading to that bow-figure, in the 1867 photo this structure had the same black-grey colour as the rest of the hull.

Here is a screenshot of my first page of the googl picture search and I have marked for you where you have to click ingoogle for that search. After looking at 30 pages of that search, the pictures always showed the ship with the museums painting. For that other version may be I have to do two scans.

Ahhh, thank you very much! I do go image search, but the pictures always come up as if they couldn't load.

So I will do a black reskin for authentic purposes. ;)

Very welcome GeneralMatt.:)

How long do you need these pictures here? You can do one version with the deep black hull as shown in the pictures and one with a "lighter" black (grey-black) where even the funnels have this colour.

If you need to delete it, go ahead, I saved the picture to my HD.

About the colours:

That is a good idea.. Have a few versions. And leave this one here for a generic ironclad..

There we go, how does that look? The image is in the first post.

In general good work and very quick. But in the first colour version with the deep black hull the yellow of the funnels is more intense with some orange in it. The second picture in the middle row of the google screene shows the colour of the funnels in this version best.

And I upload the scan from the Conways with the outlook of that ship 1867.
It´s a pitty, that the solution of my scanner is bad. Otherwise you could see the seize of cannons of that ship. The cannons on your model at present are much too big and too long and the section under the funnels is wrong. I also try to upload a zoom of the section around the funnels where these cannons can be seen best. May be here you can see something of these cannons.

And of course the section of the starboard cabin must be done again. In the Google screene there is a good photograph about that section.

The cannons on all Civ4 sail-ships (Frigate, Cravel, ...) are too large. If You had them original size, they would be almost not noticeable in animations, looking more like pixel-size graphic glitches.

So while you are right about the guns being too large, it is probaly something, that schould not be fixed.

Matt, the Warrior is GREAT... are you going to reskin a late ironclad battleship?

I need something to go with this unit!

Something like this Austrian Ironclad?

Or the HMS Hercules?

Ok, thanks for the tips and the scan, looks ok by me! Starboard cabin, that is at the stern you mean?

That is true, with the cannons it is not exactly easy to change either, the way I have to do them.

Yep, that is next I think..

You are right. The term that was used for it in the last picture of the middle row in the Google screene was "starboard quarter".

And it would be very nice to have some more of these lovely ships. :goodjob:
