I started these a while back, I just touched them up and am quite proud of 'em. :)

Two British Cavalry, the Hussars from the Crimea, and one from Africa, which would have seen a lot of the same type of action as the "US Cavalry" that the default model is of.

Hope you enjoy 'em!

Hey Matt... those Pith Helmet British Cavalry look familiar! ;)

I'll definately be throwing them in my mod... great complimentary unit to the superb 1870 British rifleman!

Thanks all.

Woodelf: Back in your old position eh?

avain: Glad you could put it to use.

Wolfshanze: They do do they not? :P I actually have a much better skin for the riflemen, but I need to update it here. It is basically the uniform of the guy in the picture, took it straight from the movie "Zulu".

I prefer the movie "Zulu Dawn" myself, which is about the Battle of Isandlwana when the British got smoked (and a "prequel" of sorts to Rorke's Drift in the movie "Zulu").

In either case, love the 1870s British Rifleman and Cavalry... a great pair that goes great together.

P.S.

Looks like the British Cavalry aren't reloading fast enough... if the Zulu are that close, they're toast!

Thank you for the encouragement.
I should watch "Zulu Dawn" sounds interesting, it was a massive bit of blundering. Proves that sending professionals on important missions like scouting the enemy, is a must.

And yeah, those poor cavalry, no chance at all.. If their friends underneath though would help they might be ok. I heard though that the Zulu actually did not like cavalry opponents, or something along that line.

Isandlwana was the most significant battle of the Zulu wars. The British gleefully invaded Zulu-land confident of an easy victory... the Zulu warriors surrounded and destroyed a large English army pretty much in its entirety... this is what is portrayed in the movie "Zulu Dawn".

Rorke's Drift was a much smaller battle of a small British Garrison and a small Zulu force that missed the battle of Isandlwana. Seeking glory, and miffed they missed the big battle at Isandlwana, the Zulu warriors attacked Rorke's Drift against better judgement (Zulus were warned not to attack entrenched British troops). This is the battle you see in the movie "Zulu".

Isandlwana occured just before Rorke's Drift... so to see the movies in chronological order, you'd have to watch Zulu Dawn, then Zulu.

Yep. It most likely have been an easy battle to if they had not sent those unreliable native scouts ahead that told them the enemy was that way when it was actually to their left, coming so that when the main portion of the army advanced, the Zulu's would appear between them and their camp. It still could have been salvaged if the fire of the regulars had not slackened because of some rule that the did not realized was no good, making every cartridge have to be accounted for. That allowed one ammo box at a time only to be open, the fire slowed and the Zulu's could reach them.
Do you not always hate those civilian rules that end up in a lot of lives lost?
And Rorke's Drift still has the record for most VC crosses handed out in a single action, 11..

Well, I highly recomend "Zulu Dawn"... good movie, and nice to watch before watching "Zulu".

It shows the whole British "bullet accounting" going on during the battle too.

Too late for that. :P Oh well, still going to see it someday..

You know what would be really sweet Matt?

An English "Explorer" unit with a pith helmet! Tired of every dang explorer in the game looking like Hernando Cortez.

Unless I'm mistaken, the only custom Explorer unit I've seen made is for Africa... I haven't seen any others, and it's high-time we see some custom Explorer units, starting with some Euro-Civs.

Hey, that is a cool idea, it is just too bad there are not more people around to get it done faster than I can.

You are thinking Livingstonish?

Dr Livingston, I presume? Would make for a FANTASTIC English Explorer unit...

Also, might not be a bad idea to have an American Explorer either... Davey?

A German Schutztruppe would probably make a fine Explorer unit for Germany too... take your pick...

Yes, Dr Livingston I was thinking. Some pretty cool images, I think any of those would be cool. The Crocket one reminds me of the Voyagers.. Maybe we should make a request in the request unit thread! That is if I cannot get to it..
