"Move foward men! Follow the standard!" Shouted a centurion as the Roman Legions surged foward and broke the enemy lines for the second time in 3 days. Romulus reined his horse in and dismounted, he walked over to the senior centurion and asked, "How are we progressing so far?"
"Wonderfully sir, we have taken two outpostes and beaten back the southern tribes for the second time in the campaign. They will break soon. I garauntee it."
Romulus nodded as he watched his brave soldiers chase after the fleeing men. "Very well centurion continue on with the plan."
"Yes, sir!" The centurion saluted and mounted his horse. He took off after the army.

Romulus stood there and watched, he was perched on a hill over looking the valley to the south of Rome, he could see some smoke nearby and knew that his soldiers had burned down several houses belonging to the enemy merchants, he smiled as he thought, "If the army fails at least the money will kill them. Or lack of it." He chuckled as he said the last 4 words. He mounted his horse and looked southward again, he could see his army clearly now, they were reorganizing again. He looked further down and saw some men running, they were all over the place and seemed lost, Romulus smiled, his army had not failed him yet. He kicked his horse and the horse galloped down the hill and towards Rome. He needed fresh recruits to replenish the ranks.

To: Ruskhan
From: The Northern Scythian Warlords

First, you try to poison our minds with your “Malik Nous” mumble jumble. Then you dare to insult us! For these insults your people will die! We will spare no one! We will make an example out of you. From now on when people think of Ruskhan, they will remember what happens to people who insult the mighty Scythians. At this moment, we are gathering all the tribes. Nothing can be done to change our minds. Your only choice is to accept your fate.

To: Urartu
From: The Southern Scythian Warlords

It seems some of your children have wandered from home. They are playing in lands that rightfully belong to Scythians. We demand these children be removed from all lands north of the mountains. Normally we would destroy you for this insult. However, we are feeling generous today. We are willing to overlook this insult. However, we have several conditions for our generosity.

1. To sooth our pride. The Urartu north of the mountains will surrender all wealth and weapons to the Scythians
2. For our enjoyment. The Urartu north of the mountains will surrender all young women to the Scythians.
3. For our prosperity. The Urartu north of the mountains will surrender all children under the age of 12 as slaves to the Scythians.
4. The Urartu will move back south over the mountains.

Meet these demands and your people may keep their worthless lives. Refuse our generous offer and we will destroy your entire country. Every person, every building, every field. Everything!

From: The priests of (the city of) Babylon

Hail, king of Abalonia. Your diplomats are brave in coming through to us here at the capital. We warn you: do not to interfere in the problems of the Heavenly Empire. It is for our next God-King to decide, and you do not want to incur his wrath.

(OOC: most people don't like the priests anyway; the other warlords pretty much ignored your message in fear of your eventual expansion into Babylonian lands, but some, particularly those to the north, asked for your help; no-one seems to have the strength to bring order, and the place will most likely degenerate into separated and warring city-states very soon -- in fact, they might not be warring anymore and will be just content with what they have)

(OOC. Then reply sooner :p)

I am the true God-King, will you peacfully submit to my will?

Band with me and we will overthrow those despised priests, I personally promise you will maintain your place of power within my Kingdom, you will have land and title. Take this offer or be cut down by my armys, and reduced to but a memory.

I have been asked by Leffe Leffeson, fourth to carry His great name, to take a look back at the last 100 mid-summer passings*1. After almost a pass of searching and asking, I think I, Byaffiwe Yvoamoson, have come up with a pretty good assumption as to what has transpired.
Probably the most important thing was the... for want of a better word, war, between us, the Angelns and the Picts. Here is our side of the story. After a fairly bloody battle, we found among the raiders were Picts. Quite a lot of them, actually. The king, the present king's late great-grandfather, was about to ask the Pict leader what had happened, when they attacked. Luckily, we had warriors with a stronger heart, and beat them back. However, this has of course led to some benefits and problems. We have 4 warships, 70-odd passings old now, but still in working order. They are currently trying to find ways of passing around the southern coast to a new land*2 sun down*3 from here.
Another achievement is the New Passing celebration*4. All Celts in the land try to travel to the plains of Eifyei, where the Great Stone Circle lies, at least once in their lifetime, to witness the rising of the New sun for the pass*5. I'm lucky as I have seen it twice.
(Translator's note: For the next few pages, he talks about various warriors and their deeds.)
I have also been asked to speculate on the future. I expect my great-grandson will be asked to write a review for the King's great-grandson. I expect the King's will expect us to grow stronger, ever expanding, allowing for a more unified country. I expect we'll come up with a name for ourselves. It might be Celtland, but that doesn’t roll off the tongue.

Notes: *1: A passing is the time between two mid-summers. Effectively, a year.
*2 This is of course, Ireland. But they haven't thought of a name for it yet. Or anywhere else for that matter.
*3 North: Pictway, South: Coastway, East: Sun Up, West: Sun Down.
*4 There are four big events in the pass. New Sun Eve, the summer solstice, is supposed to be when the old sun dies and a new sun rises for a new pass. It is the longest day as the old sun relishes it's final crossing, and the shortest night as the new sun can't wait to stroll the sky. Leffe's Day, the winter solstice, is when the sun runs quickly across the sky so not to outshine the first King. The Growth festival, in the spring equinox, celebrates new growth, like lambs and chickens. The only things that are eaten are plants. On the autumn equinox is the Flying Feast, where all kinds of birds are eaten.
*5 Like the Muslims and Mecca, Celts try to get to the Circle at least once a lifetime to greet the new sun.

OOC: What happens when we get to what is the Dark Ages in OTL? That only happened after the fall of the Romans, and we regressed. So with no Dark Age, could it be possible we advance further than what it would have been OTL?

<Is there any limit on how far away the countries can be when you trade with them? I'm guessing i can't trade with the mayans etc, what about egypt?>

If possible: Egypt, would you like to trade?

Trade limits: Mediterranean peoples w/ each other, the Greeks with the Anatolians, the Mesopotamian people w/ each other and Anatolia, the Japs and the Chinese, the South Asians and Chinese and the Indians, the South Asians and the Wambiri

@Abalonia
Half the warlords want in, half of which want (big) autonomous states for themselves, the others think they can do it on their own. The priests reject your claim.

A little background on Scythian religion. It is an animistic religion. They do not worship gods or consider gods directly interfering with they lives. They revere spirits. The spirits of the prey they hunt, the mighty river, which flows through their lands. There many different important spirits which vary from region to region. The universally most important spirit is that of the Wolf. The Scythians model their entire society after the wolf pack. The lone and fierce individual who works with his tribe to become an invincible war party that easily destroy their prey (other people)

The Shamans mist important task is interpreting the moods of the spirits and instructing people the wants of the spirits. Every Scythian tribe has a Shaman. Shamans are the “intelligent people” of the Scythian society. They are the healers, fortunetellers, and advisers to the Chief. The are diligent observers of nature. This helps them to pick the correct plants to cure an illness, instructing the tribe to move to a new location as well a other tasks vital to the survival of the tribe. They also appease the spirits to ensure good luck for the tribal war parties. Knowledge from the Shaman is passed down from the Shamans to a “Chosen One” The Shamans observe the children of their tribes when they find a suitable candidate, the child is taken from their family and lives with the Shaman who then begins to instruct the child. When they child becomes an adult then they become an assistant to Shaman. When the Shaman dies, the “Chosen One becomes the “Shaman and begins looking for a new “Chosen One”

About sixty percent of the Shaman are males. Obliviously at forty percent women also play an important role as Shamans. Some warlords and other prominent members of Scythian society have their own personal Shaman. The most powerful warlords and the King have multiple Shamans grouped under one all-powerful Shaman. The upper echelons Shaman are all males. The women Shaman are important at the local level. The sex of the Shaman is a regional preference. Some tribes prefer women Shaman and other prefer a male Shaman.

A final note. The Shamans are considered sacred. It risky to kill a tribal chief . However, kill a Shaman and the entire tribe, women and children included will fanatically attack and destroy you. Without the Shaman, the spirits become angry and bring bad luck to the tribe. Of course, the tribe will seek to punish those who have brought this awful fate upon them.
