I have been asked by Leffe Leffeson, fourth to carry His great name, to take a look back at the last 100 mid-summer passings*1. After almost a pass of searching and asking, I think I, Byaffiwe Yvoamoson, have come up with a pretty good assumption as to what has transpired.
Probably the most important thing was the... for want of a better word, war, between us, the Angelns and the Picts. Here is our side of the story. After a fairly bloody battle, we found among the raiders were Picts. Quite a lot of them, actually. The king, the present king's late great-grandfather, was about to ask the Pict leader what had happened, when they attacked. Luckily, we had warriors with a stronger heart, and beat them back. However, this has of course led to some benefits and problems. We have 4 warships, 70-odd passings old now, but still in working order. They are currently trying to find ways of passing around the southern coast to a new land*2 sun down*3 from here.
Another achievement is the New Passing celebration*4. All Celts in the land try to travel to the plains of Eifyei, where the Great Stone Circle lies, at least once in their lifetime, to witness the rising of the New sun for the pass*5. I'm lucky as I have seen it twice.
(Translator's note: For the next few pages, he talks about various warriors and their deeds.)
I have also been asked to speculate on the future. I expect my great-grandson will be asked to write a review for the King's great-grandson. I expect the King's will expect us to grow stronger, ever expanding, allowing for a more unified country. I expect we'll come up with a name for ourselves. It might be Celtland, but that doesnt roll off the tongue.
Notes: *1: A passing is the time between two mid-summers. Effectively, a year.
*2 This is of course, Ireland. But they haven't thought of a name for it yet. Or anywhere else for that matter.
*3 North: Pictway, South: Coastway, East: Sun Up, West: Sun Down.
*4 There are four big events in the pass. New Sun Eve, the summer solstice, is supposed to be when the old sun dies and a new sun rises for a new pass. It is the longest day as the old sun relishes it's final crossing, and the shortest night as the new sun can't wait to stroll the sky. Leffe's Day, the winter solstice, is when the sun runs quickly across the sky so not to outshine the first King. The Growth festival, in the spring equinox, celebrates new growth, like lambs and chickens. The only things that are eaten are plants. On the autumn equinox is the Flying Feast, where all kinds of birds are eaten.
*5 Like the Muslims and Mecca, Celts try to get to the Circle at least once a lifetime to greet the new sun.
OOC: What happens when we get to what is the Dark Ages in OTL? That only happened after the fall of the Romans, and we regressed. So with no Dark Age, could it be possible we advance further than what it would have been OTL?
