Dirty Liberals Convert RedState to WelfareState

Well, actually, the problem here is that they don't even see why their business model is failing. They were purchased by a publishing company last year with promises of support, but obviously the corporation is not coming through and they are having to beg. The business model would rely on advertising dollars which means the site needs eyeballs. Unfortunately, they are quick on the banning trigger ("blam" is their term for it) and many reasonable people that don't toe the editors' line get banned very quickly. The funny thing is, they shouldn't have banned the Ron Paul supporters. Those guys are notorious for sending money over the internets and could have helped the site out of their crisis. - JR

Okay, but this has nothing to do with welfare at all. I mean. WTH dude. This is the free market at its best. You try and paint them as hypocrites and whatnot, but what you describe is basically the free market at its best. They have operated their site as they have seen fit. And perhaps this will come back to them in the butt. Okay... THAT'S THE FREE MARKET AT WORK!

They promote up-by-your-bootstraps, yet nobody there has bothered to become competent in site maintenance, so they have to go begging for $25k. I'll concede that welfare is not the right word for it, but their email shows how they have failed on so many right-wing talking points, yet their response is to blame somebody else. I think it was pretty entertaining myself. Sure, my thread title is over-the-top, but if a website is going to send out a mass email with a crazed victim mentality, a little mockery should be expected. - JR

Again, this is just the free market at work. And again, private philanthropy is a cornerstone of consveratism. So this all seems like much ado about nothing in my opinion. I really don't see how their email, or your further explantions is indicative that they have failed at any right wing...or conservative talking points.

Conservatism is doing the best you can, and if you fail, you fall back on your friends, family, and private philanthropy until you can pick yourself up. That's what RedState is doing. And whether the site goes down in flames or not, the people associated with it will probably move on.

Lastly, you really have no proof that it's a crazed email. JR, you are obviously against them. So why would I expect you to provide us with the whole story? You have an agenda, you began the thread in a vain attepmt to smear the site. You say nonchalantly, that they are crazed victim mentality. But why should I believe that? Both conservatives and liberals have a habit of trying to bring down the other side. And sometimes, it works. You haven't provided nearly enough evidence to show that something behind the scenes hasn't happened.

I don't know the truth either way. And I gotta be honest, I really don't care. There's better sources of information for conservatives out there like Townhall. But what you did regarding this thread has lowered your street cred a whole lot.

The free market solves everything because in it unprofitable businesses fail. There is not a large enough market for blow-hards for their site to succeed.

Unless you have a wealthy Hungarian billionaire to prop you up.

Who coincidentally, made his money via the free market...

As for red states and welfare states (lowercased, spaced), the blue states give more money to the federal government than they receive back in services, and it's the opposite for the red states. Red must mean communist, then.

Then again, it's only welfare if it goes to poor city-dwellers, not to businesses for unneeded government contracts, most people in the military and other useless public employees, and wealthy rural farmers to grow things or, ironically, for not growing things!

You ain't a farmer if you don't grow sh*t, so I don't see how those guys especially can get farming subsidies.

If all those "economists" on TV who love to whine and whine about Democratic "waste" and "complaining" and "socialism" actually had enough balls to research Democratic and Republican fiscal policy over the past 20 years then they'd immediately become Democrats.

Unless you have a wealthy Hungarian billionaire to prop you up.

Yet a successful enterprise is demonized to no end when owned by a aussie billionaire that isn't propping it up.

I'm sorry, but charity and philanthropy is one of the backbones of conservatism. Sorry you didn't get that memo...
I'd say a church is the perfect example.

So ditto here. I fail to see a conflict between charity and the free market. "Free market" says it all--the people in it are free to donate money if they like.

Interesting that I've never, ever gotten an e-mail from Daily Kos begging for money.

I think it's really funny that these pro-business troglodytes can't even manage one of their own, but that's the American right for you.

Actually if you go look it up Libertarians are the definition of classical liberalism. Its us who have the terms out of whack. Conservative now means socially conservative while liberal means socially liberal. They used to mean economically conservative and economically liberal. But we changed that because a lot of times its the social isssues we focuse on instead of the economic. Like very few people think we should have a protectionist economy but everybody has an opinion on Abortion.

So they ran out of money and nobody will give them their web support for free out of the goodness of their hearts and that's the LIBRULS fault?

Either it's a pretty transparent attempt to get their readership foaming at the mouth and ready to pony up (but who would fall for that? Surely even these nutjobs aren't that gullible?), or they actually believe it and then I just have to wonder how someone gets themselves into that kind of frenzied mindset.

In almost every country, red color symbolizes the left - socialism, communism etc. In the US, it is the republican color.

You simply have to differ, don't you?

Personally, I blame the liberal mainstream media. ;)

As for redstate.com, why don't they just apply for an NEA grant? :mischief:

Because they don't have a painting of Jesus pooping on the American flag?

(This would apply to both NEAs...)

The bad news: our liberal "friends" - you know, the ones who believe so strongly in free speech and open debate - have done what they can to prevent us from making these improvements, so that our influence will be minimized just as we head into the 2008 presidential primary season.

No, our Blue State buddies haven't succeeded in stopping us from improving our website. But they've made it more difficult and more expensive - which is why I'm coming to you for help.

If we’d been a liberal website, we would have been able to fix the problem quickly and relatively cheaply. The online left loves Scoop. Unfortunately, there weren’t really any conservative Scoop developers out there to help us.
Un. Believable.

These guys whine more than Michael Savage.

I've never heard about liberals hindering conservative websites before. How the hell did these goobers come up with that?

Absolutely unbelievable. It's just a gigantic whine-fest.

Two Points:

a) Asking for donations does not a welfare state make, although it does show that the ol' free market isn't supporting right wing newsgroups as well as it used to

b) How the hell is this "liberals" fault? Are they trying to get more support, or what?

It would be interesting if the Daily Kos and Red State were the only bias internet media. But it isn't...so...

Townhall is more viable than Daily Kos will ever dream of being. And if you really wanna turn this into a popularity contest, just look at radio. Or NPR.

Okay, how about asking Air America for advice, then? Sometimes it seems like the political poles are equal-but-opposite when it comes to talk radio and web forums.

What on earth do you mean by this?
