From the air, I'd been watching a large but outdated AI fleet headed to my continent (14 galleons, 4 caravels, 30 land units), and set up a small blockade of destroyers. I was weak on land, and if the army was able to make landfall, I'd lose a couple cities.

Now, normally the AI is pretty handy maneuvering its units and getting them to shore the very turn they declare war. But Zara Yaqob suddenly realized that he needed to be an idiot, and threw his entire stack (including the laden galleons!!!) at one of my destroyers. +1 war victory for me!

Picture is the 28/10 experience destroyer that just ate Ethiopia's navy for breakfast :food: :food: :D :food: :food:

Isn't there an AI Stupidities thread where you can cross-post this?

LOL, is he throwing a Coke bottle over the edge?

I give a cookie to the person who can guess what movie that line comes from.;)

I don't have screenshot, but the game say I enter the Classical Age at 2400 B.C.

How that possible?

It only depends on your tech level. If you research Iron Working, that's the only way I know of to get into the Clasical age. Means nothing except for city graphics(and worker if you're entering the modern era).

It's true that the eras of the game are triggered by certain techs, but not entirely true that they only affect city graphics.
  • Music (a negligible cosmetic effect like city graphics)
  • Quests: As of BtS, eras act as deadlines for most of the game's quests. If you're pursuing one, it may be helpful to know which techs trigger the deadline era. Is there a list of those around somewhere?
  • War weariness: As I understand it, the factor that calculates war weariness increases with each era--the idea being that more modern societies are less tolerant of war, especially long, costly ones.
Aside from those things, though, I don't think the eras have any other effects.

Enough lecturing--back to the funny pictures!

EDIT: Here's one from the latest ALC. First check who else voted to make me Secretary-General of the UN. Then check who I'm at war with.

Confused? The vote for S-G came up just before I declared war. I'll bet poor FDR was regretting his vote when the results came in...

There is a random event/quest thread somewhere, no clue where though. I think it's under BtS.

There is one more thing... On Prince + the AI gets a addtional bonus - a discount on pretty much everything of <AiPerEraModifier> % ...

its 1% per era on prince, 2% on monarch, etc.

I don't believe that is the case. War weariness uses the unit strength involved to calculate it. So it usually will increase with era, but it is not direct (or caused by a certain era).

I am quite sure that this is not right, unless i missed this part in the code. I do not know about a per era modifier either (but i am less sure at this one).

From what i know the apprent increase of WW in later ages caused simply by the higher numbers of units, redulting in more fighting.

IIRC war weariness is calculated like this:

In your own cultural borders no ww at all
For a loss in enemy borders 3 ww points
For a win in enemy borders 1 ww point
