This is a replay of my first try at Frederick the Organized which ended in a horrible loss. I learned my lesson and ready to try again.

Frederick believes a small but organized empire can be better then a Larger but unorganized empire. In this RPC we will try to specialize our cities as much as possible. Each City will have it’s own specific purpose and have it’s own rules. Lets see the power of city specialization!

Empire-wide Rules:

1. Must acquire 7 cities and try to keep them through out the game he must not control more then 7 cities. Any cities he captures in addition to the 7 cities must be razed. Each city must be specialized via the city rules below.

2.He must adopt Universal Suffrage as soon as it is available and must remain in this civic for the rest of the game.

3.No slavery!!! He want his cities to grow big. He also doesn’t like slave revolts (very unorganized) if he wants something rushed he will pay for it.

4. Must found at least 1 corporation the HQ(s) must be in the gold city.

5.Must start at least 3 Golden Ages if we build the Taj we will try to start 4 GA’s

City Rules:

We will have 7 different types of cities each city has it’s own special set of rules. Below is a list of the 7 different cities and the rules for each are in the spoilers. So please read all of the spoilers in this post;).

Victories:
Any victory is acceptable, of course, domination will not be possible because we can only have 7 cities.

Settings:

This time aggressive AI is turned off.

Civ4ScreenShot0232.jpg

The Start:

This is a random map with random civs and is the first map I got.

Civ4ScreenShot0231.jpg

I think my capital looks like a good spot for my Production City!

I hope this will be both fun and education. Fred’s Philosophical trait is great for this considering we have to start 3-4 GA’s and found at least 1 corporation.

I’m a prince player that some times play at monarch but still finds prince a challenge. I will usually play a round in this RPC about every 1-4 days.

Yeah there better be some nicer people this time!
I'd settle where you are, grab the goody hut, explore to the NE and see if there are more resources to settle the next city by the wheat.

Round 1: 4000BC - 70AD

Well this game sure started better! I have much more agreeable neighbors and aggressive AI turned off make them even nicer!

Tech: Masonry - fishing - BW - Mysticism -priesthood - AH - writing - agriculture - sailing - COL - math - part of calendar

4000BC I settle in place. My cap is definitely my production city. I did the math and I have enough food to feed my city but I have to build the Moai Statues so the sea tiles produce hammers

3925BC we meet Darius I. lol he is a lot better then the last Persian I seen!

Civ4ScreenShot0233.jpg

but he is way too close! I think I must kill him.

Civ4ScreenShot0234.jpg

3675BC I meet Hatshepsut. I happier to see her then I was to see Cathy in the last game

Civ4ScreenShot0235.jpg

3625BC popped a goody hut and got the wheel

3175BC Hammurabi who is know as the most reasonable of the aggressive AIs

Civ4ScreenShot0236.jpg

2475BC I complete the GW

Civ4ScreenShot0237.jpg

1750BC I complete the Oracle and take MC

Civ4ScreenShot0238.jpg

1650BC this is my first city and I make this my science city

Civ4ScreenShot0239.jpg

I got my first GSpy

1525BC - 1200BC over the course of these turns I end up signing a open borders with all the known AIs

1050BC I get this quest. I going to get 7 cities so this quest is doable

Civ4ScreenShot0240.jpg

725BC another GSpy

700BC This is my next city and I make it my espionage city. The next turn I settle one of the GSpys and build the Scotland yards for a instant 24 EPs

Civ4ScreenShot0241.jpg

575BC I make these three trades and I revolt to HR

Civ4ScreenShot0242.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0243.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0244-1.jpg

380BC too bad it’s too later to change my espionage city into my gold city because I just founded Confucianism in that city.

335BC here is the most powerful…

Civ4ScreenShot0246.jpg

215AD The time has come to kill Darius. It’s not so much I don’t like him but he has good land and he is way, way too close.

Civ4ScreenShot0247.jpg

185BC I raze Susa. I didn’t like it’s location because it had too much overlapping (very unorganized). I might settle just a tile away from the ruins. (I forgot the screen shot)

125BC I take the Capital city. I can’t decide if this should be my Great person farm or my gold city. Is there any advice on this?

Civ4ScreenShot0248.jpg

55AD Hatty asked my to convert so I did.

Civ4ScreenShot0250.jpg

70AD we steel this tech from Hatty and this is where I saved.

Civ4ScreenShot0249.jpg

I’m ahead in tech!!!

Civ4ScreenShot0251.jpg

and power looks good the only one more powerful is Hammurabi!

Civ4ScreenShot0252.jpg

Here are the Persians

Civ4ScreenShot0253.jpg

It looks like Pasargadea and the unknown NE city have major overlapping with Persepolis. So when I take those cities should I raze or keep them? Or should I raze one and keep the other? What should I do?

You may have noticed I tried different strategy this time. From the last game I decided that universal suffrage is not a good early game civic because you don’t have towns in early game and US doesn’t have any happiness modifier which is very important! So I didn’t build the pyramids so I didn’t have to switch to US.

As you can see from my tech path I beeline calendar right after COL. I did that because I really want the Mausoleum! I have to start 3-4 GA’s so if I build the Mausoleum that equals 1.5 to 2 free GA’s!!! If I start 4 GA’s and build the Mausoleum I will have 60 turns of GA!!!

NOTE: I will be on vacation over the weekend so I will not be able to play or post the next round till Sunday or Monday.

I'm trying to understand one thing about the rules. What is the time frame for when a city has to meet it specified requirements? Your capital is going to be out (blanking) the (blank) city for a certain amount of time. So if the capital is in fact your production city, the research city will still take some time to catch up to Berlin in research only because of the Palace. Same thing with the Espionage City, Gold City, and Great Person farm (great wall, oracle).

I guess what I'm asking, is what is the "deadline" for having your 7 cities specialized as required? Are you allowed to change the specialization goal of a city (assuming you haven't worked a cottage or ran a specialist that forces your hand yet).

Also, are you allowed to gift a city to the AI to avoid having to meet its obligations in terms of specialization?

Same thing with the Espionage City, Gold City, and Great Person farm (great wall, oracle).

I guess what I'm asking, is what is the "deadline" for having your 7 cities specialized as required?

I don't really have much for a deadline I just have to meet the requirements before I can win the game. Of course, I can't in the last turn build wealth in my gold city or run more specialist then I have food for in my GP farm and call that city specialization. The reason I didn't put a deadline is because I don't think it will be a problem if I specialize correctly. Also after the national wonders I think it will be even less of a problem for example my Science City must build the Oxford and may build a academy that’s 150%:science: that the other cities don't have!

Are you allowed to change the specialization goal of a city (assuming you haven't worked a cottage or ran a specialist that forces your hand yet).

I can change the city as long as doing so does not break the rules. for example I can't change my espionage city because I have built the Scotland yards in that city and Scotland yards may only be in the espionage city so changing it would break the rules.

Also, are you allowed to gift a city to the AI to avoid having to meet its obligations in terms of specialization?

No, I may not gift a city to avoid terms of specialization! That would break the rules because I'm to acquire 7 cities and try to keep them through out the game. Giving a city away is not trying to keep all 7 cities. The only time giving a city away is ok is if I capture a city and may choices are to keep it, raze it, or return control to another empire I may give it away instead of razing it.

Better luck this time. You are at least a great deal luckier on the neighbours. Hatty, Darius and Hammurabi are a lot less war-minded than the previous bunch.

Persepolis, with a food resource and lots of floodplains is an excellent GP farm. I'd simply raze the cities if BFC's overlap - if you want to use a small number of cities you want as less overlap as possible.

Round 2: 70AD - 685AD

This is a short and rather uneventful round. I decided to make Persepolis my GP farm, although I have not stated to specialize it yet.

Tech: calendar - construction - currency (finished in a trade) - part of civil service

235AD I got another GSpy and I settle him in Munich

280AD I give in to him I want to stay on his good side and avoid war with him as much as possible.

Civ4ScreenShot0254.jpg

550AD I steal feudalism from Hatty!!!

565AD I build the Mausoleum!

Civ4ScreenShot0255.jpg

610AD a GG was born so I save him for the moment. I think I will attach him to a unit to make a level 6 unit so I can build west point in my military city.

we take and raze this city.

Civ4ScreenShot0256.jpg

655AD we make peace. I had to stop building military to build the mausoleum so my power went down so I plan to declare war again and vassal him as soon as I rebuild my military.

Civ4ScreenShot0257.jpg

685AD I settle this city. I think I’m going to make this my military city.

Civ4ScreenShot0258.jpg

So I only need two more cities. I’m thinking Gordium looks like a good gold city!

Civ4ScreenShot0259.jpg

This is where I saved. Here are the city notice Hamburg is #1 :science:, Munich is #1 :espionage:, and Berlin is #1:hammers:. The other cities have not been developed.

Civ4ScreenShot0260.jpg

Here is the power:

Civ4ScreenShot0261.jpg

My plan is to first rebuild my military then take and keep Gordium and raze all the other cities I take from Darius unless he has one that would be good for my NP city. If he doesn’t have a good NP city I think I seen some unsettled land to the north that looked good for a NP city. When I have all 7 cities I will beat up Darius until he is my vassal. After that I will try to be a peaceful as possible while I build workers, specialize cities, and start GA’s!

Round 3: 685AD - 1370AD

I love espionage!!! I stole 6 techs in this round and 2 techs in the pervious rounds basically just because of 3 GSpys! By the end of this round I have all 7 cities and I am winning the liberalism race!

Tech path: civil service - philosophy (finished in trade) - paper - education - part of liberalism

920AD I steal machinery from Darius

980AD I steal aesthetics from Darius

1010AD I get another GSpy. I thought about settling his in the espionage city but I wanted to change civics with out anarchy so I start my first GA with him.

I adopt Bureaucracy, the caste system, and OR,

Civ4ScreenShot0264.jpg

1030AD I make this trade with Hatty

Civ4ScreenShot0265.jpg

1050AD we steal theology from Hatty

1110AD Hatty is in the AP

Civ4ScreenShot0268.jpg

1120AD we finish the Parthenon. It only took 8 turns to complete it!!!

Civ4ScreenShot0270.jpg

1160AD all good things must come to a end. Our GA ends.

1220AD We declare war on Darius.

Civ4ScreenShot0271.jpg

1230AD we settle Frankfurt. This normally would be a bad city spot but this is going to be my NP city. 11 or more forests equals 11 or more specialists!

Civ4ScreenShot0272.jpg

1240AD we raze this city.

Civ4ScreenShot0273.jpg

1250AD

Civ4ScreenShot0274.jpg

1285AD I got a GA. Darius’ culture pressing against Persepolis grew tiresome so I used him for a culture bomb.

1300AD I steal engineering and literature from Hatty

1305AD I ask Hatty nicely for HBR and she gave it to me!

1330AD I steal compass from Hatty! This is the 8th tech so far I have stolen in this game! Espionage is great!

Round 3: 685AD - 1370AD continued

1335AD I try to finish what I had stated before the AP stepped in and stopped me.

Civ4ScreenShot0277.jpg

1340AD I take Gordium and keep it, this is going to be my gold city. I used my warlord to make a medic unit but he we only a level 5. After letting him fight two battles with 85%+ odds, he is now a level 6 unit. I can build West Point!!!

Civ4ScreenShot0278.jpg

1350AD I get another GA, for right now I save him for latter because I don’t know what to do with him.

1355AD This was hard to do but I accept this request

Civ4ScreenShot0279.jpg

1370AD I make peace with Darius. I said I was going to war till I vassal him but after thinking about it I really don’t see any reason to kill him right now. I have all 7 cities so I want to focus on improving my land and specializing my cities.

Civ4ScreenShot0280.jpg

This is where I saved. Here are my cities.

Civ4ScreenShot0288.jpg

In the spoiler I have screen shots of all 7 cities.

Spoiler :

Berlin (production city)

Civ4ScreenShot0281.jpg

Hamburg (science city)

Civ4ScreenShot0282.jpg

Munich (espionage city) It’s producing 60 EPs per turn!!!

Civ4ScreenShot0283.jpg

Persepolis (GP farm) No I’m not breaking the rules, Darius was the one who built those cottages, I just haven’t gotten around to getting rid of them yet.

Civ4ScreenShot0284.jpg

Cologne (military city)

Civ4ScreenShot0285.jpg

Gordium (gold city) I have not even stated to specialize this city yet.

Civ4ScreenShot0287.jpg

Frankfurt (NP city)

Civ4ScreenShot0286.jpg

So I have a GArtist and I don’t know want to do with him. Should I settle him in Gordium (Gold City) to push away Darius’ culture at the same time give the city a nice boost in gold or should I save him for a GA?

o.O
Ofcourse I cant look at the techs from work, but why would you give hatty education? She allready got philosophy for lib so screw the demands...

well after thinking about it giving away education was a blunder but I think I can still win the lib race. I Probably will not give Hatty any more techs. I think I might give in to Hammurabi if he asks for techs because he is more powerful and technology backwards.

BTW what should I do with the GA?

Round 4: 1370AD - 1718AD

Tech Path: liberalism - printing press - gunpowder - chemistry - SM - part of biology

1405AD Darius is the only one smaller then us

Civ4ScreenShot0289.jpg

1425AD We steal drama from Hammurabi

1430AD We win the liberalism race I take nationalism to try to get the Taj

Civ4ScreenShot0291.jpg

1440AD we finish the HE and NE.

1465AD I get a GS and use him for a academy.

1475 AD we meet Pacal II and Qin Shi Huang

Civ4ScreenShot0292.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0293.jpg

We steal guilds

1480AD I tell him to go away!

Civ4ScreenShot0294.jpg

1495AD I finish the Taj which starts my 2nd GA

Civ4ScreenShot0295.jpg

1500AD I make this trade

Civ4ScreenShot0296.jpg

Then I switch to FR and Mercantilism I did so with no anarchy because of the GA

Civ4ScreenShot0297.jpg

1530AD as suggested I vote for Hatty for the “+2 you voted for us”

Civ4ScreenShot0298.jpg

1535AD I got a GM I save him for a GA

1570AD My GA ends. I get a GA I save him for latter

1610AD I steal constitution from Hatty

1635AD I get a GE. I save him for now I think I might use him to rush wall street or Oxford. Any suggestions on what for should I use him?

1665AD I steal optics from Hammurabi

1690AD we make this trade

Civ4ScreenShot0299.jpg

1710AD we meet Mansa Musa who is insanely advanced.

Civ4ScreenShot0300.jpg

1718AD I started my 3rd GA with the GM and GA. This is where I saved.

We are not very advanced anymore :(

Civ4ScreenShot0302.jpg

Here are the relations:

Civ4ScreenShot0304.jpg

There are more screen shots in the spoiler

Spoiler :

Civ4ScreenShot0305.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0303.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0301.jpg

So what victory should I try to get? I’m thinking a space race is the best choice. If I go for a space race I will try to get the internet. I don’t know if a diplomatic is possible because Pacal is the largest and I would be going against him. A culture or conquest looks unlikely.

So how am I doing??

Round 5: 1718AD - 1906AD

Tech: biology - steam power - assembly line - railroad (finished in trade) - electricity - industrialism - plastics - computers - part of fiber optics

Civ4ScreenShot0306.jpg

1756AD I rush oxford with my GE

1762AD I get a GA so I save him for my last GA

1764AD I steal military tradition

and I make this trade

Civ4ScreenShot0307.jpg

1776AD Mansa finishes the SOL 2 turns before I could get it  I got 2010 gold from it. I use 1554 gold to rush the NP.

1794AD I make the following trades

Civ4ScreenShot0309.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0310.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0311.jpg

1844AD got a GM I save him for a GA

1854AD Hatty finished the Apollo program

1855AD GSpy so I start my 4th GA

1862AD I switch to free market It was a big mistake waiting so long to go to free market because soon after my economy stated looking better

1865AD I adopted free speech because of the UN

Civ4ScreenShot0316.jpg

1866AD wall street done!!!

1867AD got a GM I use him for a trade mission

1873AD another request I reject

Civ4ScreenShot0317.jpg

1878AD I make yet another trade

Civ4ScreenShot0319.jpg

1883AD I get this random event and Mansa finish the Apollo program

Civ4ScreenShot0320.jpg

1888AD Pacal finish the Apollo program.

1900AD Qin finish the Apollo program.

1905AD the UN makes me adopt environmentalism

Civ4ScreenShot0322.jpg

1906AD this is where I saved. I lost the internet with only a few turns left to go

Hatty’s culture has taken some of the cottages around Hamburg and the oil around Munich

Civ4ScreenShot0335.jpg

I’m horribly behind in tech

Civ4ScreenShot0325.jpg

More screen shot in spoiler

Spoiler :

Every tile in the BFC produces at least 1 hammer

Civ4ScreenShot0327.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0326.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0334.jpg

I thought the internet was my only hope and I lost it to Hammurabi. This doesn’t look good. I think I will play this to the very end because I know the AIs sometimes do dumb thing but I think I have lost this game.
