We WOULD have to get Pericles when I'm going to be away  Maybe I'll try and squeeze in some time to play late tonight :p

COOL! Just finished my opening round of LHC Charley, and was going to try to finish out NC Sitting Bull, but I will definitely be right on this one.

Hermit, no worries mate. Play a round if you can, and then re-join us in a couple weeks when you have time. This kind of skipping has been planned for, and week-long round means you shouldnt miss too much.

AFAIK all the "Roster Players" use bug. Thats me, hermit, OTAK, Rolo, and Diamondeye, who is the one responsible for putting this series together.

We all use BUG over the top of our Custom Assets, though, and not loaded as a separate MOD. So if that is how yours is set up, join in!

We all play each and every round, then discuss and decide which is the "Best Ball", then we all play from there again. Shadow games are encouraged, and we will consider Shadow saves in our Best-Ball discussions. See the MC-1 thread and the Bullpen thread for more details of the format.

I take it you enjoy playing Pericles?

I'm not sure I've played him even once since BtS released ... at least not that I can remember off the top of my head.

Im gonna follow this game.

contains strategy suggestions, dont look!
Spoiler :
2 options:
worker+straight for AH
or
warrior/scout (grow to 2)->worker and agriculture before AH (AH will be cheaper to reasearch)

edit: about settling, 1N is an option if u wanna delay dettling by a turn. Else the corn can be used for another city, depending on surrouding terrain. (will lose a forest by doing that)

I'm in on this one ;). There aren't any series games left for me to play at the moment hehehe.
Hey T, can you do me a favor if you have time? Go back to MC-1, Rolos 1200 AD save (round 4 I think), and pick up the save, and try to get an AP win. I was **THIS** close, but couldnt quite pull it off, then Toku put the kibosh on it by spawning non-hindu colonies and I just decided to romp instead, heh. But you have a much stronger handle on that "style". I could have had the win way early if I had something like 15 more votes, ugh. If you manage it, post a quicky report in that thread, and attach the 1-turn to victory save if you can.

BTW, new PYL coming out soon, hopefully before the weekend is over. I have the map, just have to edit the WB Save into the various leaders positions. Been busy with half-finished games though, I suck at following through. I want to get through the NC Sitting Bull game, and most of LHC Charley.

Finished my round in this game, posting the report now while its fresh in my mind.

@stormyorky
I guess you missed it, but the OP specifically asks for no strategy discussion about the start.

This was my suggestion, and is intended to force each player to approach the game with only his/her own judgement to go on, and thus to ensure as wide a variation in the first round saves as possible.

The discussion should begin in earnest once people start posting their saves.

@everyone
I hope you guys enjoy the map!

ARGH!! I have NO LUCK!!

Once again, 3/4 done with my post, and it was gorgeous too, when suddenly, my new upstairs neighbor decided to go into the basement and accidently shut my power off, LOL!!

Thank goodness its only round 1, I will have to re-do it, but no biggie, I remember it.

e1: can't remember

e2: added Stuff

e3: increased detail of report

I beat TMIT to playing the round! (And Bleys too, but because of clumsiness)

I don't really do pretty reports. I write down things as I play. If someone wants me to post a BUG autolog I'll figure it our by next round.

Fun fact: Quotey whipped 1 pop instead of 2 this round because he miscounted by one. He did it twice. Oy.

Round 1- 120 Turns.

Spoiler :
I moved 1E to get Corn, as Cows and Plains Hill Sheep are frankly uninspiring. Infact, I might even mine them.

I went Agriculture first due to the Corn. Even if there wasn'tcorn in my BFC i would have considered doing it that way anyway- have to weigh up 5 lost worker turns to time saved by not researching Ag later and getting the discount on Animal Husbandy.

3pigle3.jpg

4 turns in and I am loving the map. 3 pigs? Sign me up.

6 turns in and I meet Peter of Russia. I haven't played a game against him before. I don't know what to expect.

SCREENSHOT BUGGERED

On turn 14 I finish researching Agriculture, and my Scout dies.

healtheventtj0.jpg

NO WHAMMIES NO WHAMMIES NO WHAMMIES:

I get both the unhappiness and the health.

On turn 71 I revolt to slavery while the settler is in transit. This is much better than whipping while the settler is being built because it means the second city is built a turn earlier- unless, of course you intend to whip the settler.

Monty settled near a site I wanted :( I will settle above it to get the gems and ivory.

tlaxcalaty1.jpg

Corinth settled on turn 86. You can also see Sparta which I forgot to mention. Corinth takes the Plains Hill Sheep, and has a lot of hils of its own that it can work, as well as sharing one or two with Athens. Maybe Maoi statues city.

corinthcw8.jpg

And on turn 113 I declare with the alt click method, so as not to wake Peter. I didn't mention rushing earlier in the report, but this map really tells me RUSH HIM RUSH HIM. I am also counting on anothe ropponent being behind Monty.

stpetetx4.jpg

At the loss of one Phalanx I take St Petersburg. One archer in his second city? Wow.

At the end of the save I have a ton of reinforcements, as my force after capturing St Pete was 6 Phalanx will probably not be enough for the Russian capital. There are currently 9 Phalanx in St Petersburg- This should be fine. I always expect the capital to A: Have walls (Peter has Masonry) and B: Have AT LEAST 3 if not 4 archers. Peter also may have a metal in Novgorod. He has researched Iron Working, so he probably doesn't have Copper.

Tech Path

Spoiler :
Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Mining, Bronze Working, The Wheel, Writing, Pottery, Mathematics (5 turns at current rate)

Unsure if my save can be picked for the best ball thing, but whatever.

Spoiler :
PROS:

-I have St Pete, and am in a strong position to roll Peter, with a massive production base, my first 3 cities. They have hills and food. And some sort of ugly freak hybrid (Plains Hill Sheep).
-I have 2/3 granaries up, and a library in Athens. (scraping the bottom of the barrel)
-I have Pottery, and nearly Math. In 5 turns you can start on Currency, if you wish.

CONS:

-No option for no war, if that's how you want to go
-POSSIBLY Semi isolated, so next move nearly must be Construction so we can destroy Monty (and send out a workboat)
-I just know some people will hate my city placements.
-I will not get to find out more about Peter :D

Weird and abusable game thing:

Spoiler :
lionresourcecy8.jpg

The Lion in this screenshot will ONLY move to the tiles with a red dot. After observing this for a few turns, I have concluded that the black dot has a resource in it- for some reason, animals CANNOT move onto resources. I will found a city 1W of black dot (it has fish 2N of it). So I am sure I will have one of Iron, Coal, Aluminium, Oil, or Uranium. Fantastic.

Useful Whipping THing That Lots Of People Will Know About But Posting It To Make Up For a Poor Report:

Spoiler :
Pictures when I can be bothered to replay the round to get them:

In Axeman rushes, you'll want to ship and chop to build up your army as quick as possiblle. The best time to whip is when you have SIX hammers invested. You'll do a 2 pop whip with 45 overflow, so if you can muster up 7 hammers next turn, you will get 2 Axemen, in 2 turns, for 2 pop. Awesome! I did all my whips in this round without Granaries though :(

Stuff:

Spoiler :
I assume I won't be the only one to do a super early rush. The deck is stacked for it- I woudln't be surprised if every game fell that way.

OK Here is my re-do. No biggie, it wasnt a complicated round. I grade myself a B- on my play, reasonable, playable, but nothing outstanding. I made some bad choices, and seemed very slow because of it.

Spoiler :

Logging by BUG Mod 2.30 [Build 742] (BtS 3.13)
------------------------------------------------
Turn 0/750 (4000 BC)

I moved my Scout 1 NW onto the hill, and when it switched to my settler, I noticed a blue-circle 1 NW of him. I also spied some coast to the west of the fog, so I felt there was a good chance for seafood. I took the chance and moved my settler 1 NW.

Civ4ScreenShot0183.jpg

Turn 1/750 (3975 BC)
Athens founded
Athens begins: Worker (23 turns)
Research begun: Animal Husbandry (19 Turns)

Athens founded. Bummer, no seafood. I hate those blue-circles, heh. Oh well, I am on the coast, with 2 solid tiles (3F3H, and 3F2H1C). No fast growth food tile though, so whipping will be slow. If I had moved my settler 1E instead, to keep the pigs and cows, and add the corn, it would have been killer good. This spot allows a possible GLH run again, but growth will be slow, which sucks early game. I start a worker, annoyed that I cant start right out with a Work Boat, since we have Fishing.

I also started AH, since that was our food, and I will admit to something if you all promise not to laugh. I get Pericles and Darius mixed up, LOL, so I was also thinking "and we need AH for Horses so we can Immortal-Rush someone!". Heh, I never played Pericles before, and havent played Darius in a LONG time, other than as an Unrestricted Combo once. Heh, its not too bad, but I was thinking about Immortals for a long time.

Civ4ScreenShot0184.jpg

Turn 2/750 (3950 BC)

Tech learned: Mining
Tribal village results: technology
Athens's borders expand

Turn 5/750 (3875 BC)

Turn 6/750 (3850 BC)
Tribal village results: a little gold

While defending in the wild, Scout loses to Barbarian Lion (1.08/2) (Prob Victory: 78.7%)

Civ4ScreenShot0170.jpg

Turn 20/750 (3500 BC)

Turn 38/750 (3050 BC)
Athens's borders expand

Turn 39/750 (3025 BC)
Tech learned: Bronze Working

BW in and I choose sailing. New scout has explored enough land to the south to plant some good coastal cities. He also spots both the Horses and the Copper closest to me! I revolt to Slavery right away.

Civ4ScreenShot0172.jpg

Turn 40/750 (3000 BC)
Research begun: Sailing (215 Turns)

Turn 52/750 (2700 BC)
Athens grows to size 2

Turn 53/750 (2675 BC)
Athens begins: Settler (15 turns)

Turn 54/750 (2650 BC)

Turn 55/750 (2625 BC)

Turn 56/750 (2600 BC)

Argh, there goes my warrior. Oh well, they are cheap. Guess Sparta will have to build its own garrison unit though. He did manage to explore quite a bit by Peter, and combined with my Work Boat circling our continent, I have a lot of land exposed.

Turn 120/750 (1000 BC)

OK I have a few Lanx's out, headed for the Barb city. I need another settler ASSAP as well, for the NE, to try and cut Peter off a bit more. The GLH is nearly done, and I still have plenty of forests near all cities. I need IW soonish, too, so I can get those gems online. Heres some overall screenies:

Civ4ScreenShot0182.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0179.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0180.jpg

Heres the Barb city, all my Phalanx's are CRI:

Civ4ScreenShot0181.jpg

Pros - 2 Barracks and a good start on some units to rush. GLH near complete and I dont see how I could not get it. Enough coast on this continent to make a lot of cities, but may be a bad move.

Cons - slow. My whole turn felt slow. I dont see any metals in Peters land, and we have both Horses and Copper, so rushing him is still an option. He has Stone too, maybe just taking his perimeter cities, and pillaging him back to nothing in his cap will be enough.

Sailing and the GLH may have been a poor choice, but once I moved to the coast, I was kind of committed. I should have gotten more settlers out instead, perhaps. I might be too late to rush without Catapults.

Despite starting with great promise, my Round 1 ended in dismal failure ...

... anybody care if I just muck it and skip the Report?

Segment 1:

Spoiler :
Settled in place, briefly considered 1E to pick up corn also. Started warrior while researching mining ---> BW

3800 - Popped agriculture and the wheel off huts while scouting to the south

3550 - Met Peter of Russia, home city probably east/northeast

3475 - Scout circling around discovers he's almost straight east from our start.

3400 - Lion eats scout, only warrior left to scout around

3225 - BW discovered, researching mysticism then pottery, AH, Writing. We have copper in BFC!

3125 - First worker is out, chopping another worker and settler

2750 - Warrior gets eaten by lion in woods, even with CI. Great luck

2600 - Used herbs event for +2 health. City still at pop 1 while chopping settler so this nets out to doing nothing negative for +2 health forever

2475 - Settled Sparta just east of capitol - 3 E to be exact. Can share bronze and cow if needed, has its own pig and corn. Obviously one of 2 cities intended to prep a phalanx rush.

2275 - Forgot we were creative and had started a monument in sparta. Will let it finish since almost done, then start work on granary, barracks, units

1950 - Met Montezuma. Joy. Likely he came from very far south.

1775 - Settled corinth very near peter, started on granary

1150 - Jaguar sighting, Monty must have beelined IW

1075 - Hooked up Ivory near Peter's borders for the :), also beelining construction as jumbos can probably smear Monty if he winds up being close than expected, especially with elephant help.

1000 - Stats:

9 Phalanx. Library in Sparta, other cities have barracks and granary only. Building a road to St. Petersburg. Sparta should be whipped to make a few more Phalanx then attack. The rest is able to be told from screen shots, if you have further questions just ask :).

Choked forgetting I had a creative leader and teching mysticism. My file will probably not be picked for this round, although Russia is set to fall. Looks like more than one person wanted this approach :).

Otaku: Barb event, eh? I'd say restart and if you get it again muck.

Bleys:

Spoiler :
No in depth comments until everyone posts, but

Pros - 2 Barracks and a good start on some units to rush.

That made me laugh, considering my situation.

Spoiler :
Did you research Myst for any reaosn other than the Monuments? Again, nice Phalanx rush prep. I have the feeling I neglected something to hit Peter.
