Intro
There have been several requests for my input on Indian units that are in the making. There are also some uniquely South Asian units I’d like to see made. I’ve kept putting off starting this thread to get all the images ready, but I’ve given up on that idea. I’d rather go ahead and post what’s ready and provide a place for anyone interested in making units to ask for what I’ve got raw that hasn’t been posted. As with the Bazaar thread the focus will be on pre-gunpowder units, although I do have some stuff up through 19th century India.

I’m going ahead and listing all the items I intend to include in this first post - which will evolve into a table of contents with links to the galleries and commentaries below. Eventually I hope that each gallery will have a paragraph or two of explanation; for right now there may only be a title, or a couple of words, until someone asks for more.

Hey, BM, check this out, I wanna know what you think :)

Some of those images I've seen before. It's a mix of "right on" & "misses the mark".

Rajputs were well known for their superior cavalry, contrary to what they have for the faction. But the javelins are suitable. They were also noted for both sword-work and archery from horse back. Read about their armies here.

Kilts, skirts, whatever, are not at all accurate, especially for that period. But the armor seems pretty accurate, IMHO. Weapons also. Those weird, triangular shields look totally bogus; the round ones are about the size of the museum examples I've seen photos of.

The elephants have those "Carthaginian" boxes, not howdahs . On the other hand, the trappings with the Hindu iconography are nice.

Rajputs were well known for fighting to the death, not the low morale they lay out for the faction. The British Raj classified them as a martial race, along with the Gurkhas & others of similar ilk.

I think a lot of the inaccuracies are due to trying to fit an Indian faction into a mod focused on the Moslem world, using the same models/skins. If I had MTW, I'd play them, as well as the RTW mods I've seen with Indians.
