An Experiment Failed: Preview and Construction

This thread is for my next NES, An Experiment Failed. I will accept reservations for nations here. Also, I'm doing something slightly different with this preview thread than previous threads have done.

If you want to, after you select a nation, feel free to provide a story based description of how your faction came to power, and gained the territory it now possesses. I shall provide a basic summary of the plot prior to the collapse below, and I encourage you to be as creative as possible. In fact, within these stories, if you care to devise your own vehicles and weapons used by the soldiers who support you, you may even get a welcome surprise in your finalized stats. I will be taking all contributions into consideration when formulating the final military stats. Also, have fun in the writing, but there are a couple of brief rules:

1. Be careful not to conflict with the dates and background I provide below.
2. Do not conflict with a player's prewritten selection, whether writing about earlier conflict, or even in regards to territorial boundries.
3. Be readable. Microsoft Word is our friend.

The background is a basic guide and you can consider it an alternative history as well, even though it takes place in the near future, since some of the events which take place you may disagree with. Remember, we're just setting up a game.

The Background:

In 2009, a radical military organization within the People's Republic of China seized power, promising to ascend the Chinese nation to true superpower status. Immediate pressure was placed on Taiwan and Siberia as the Chinese government began to mobilize its military. With the entry into NATO by Russia in 2010, war was at last sparked. A Chinese invasion of Taiwan brutally defeated the American Seventh Fleet and local garrison forces, and the Chinese military seemed well on its way to overrun Russian defenses in the Far East. After resumption of the draft and preparation for a major war, the United States government, lacking any support from its European allies, was able to at last launch a counteroffensive, retaking Taiwan and launching an invasion into mainland China. By 2012, Russian and American forces were pressing rapidly into Chinese controlled territory. Disaster ensued. Fearing the loss of power, the Chinese military launched its vastly increased nuclear arsenal at Russia and the United States. The major economic and political centers of Russia were immediately annihalated, and the retaliation was quick. Seventy percent of China's population and urban centers were devastated by the Russian counterattack. The United States, however, managed to avoid devastation. From 2004 onward, the American military had begun major mobilization of a nuclear missile defense system. To the surprise of all, even the Pentagon, the missile shield was 100% effective, not a single Chinese nuke hit America soil, though several outlying Pacific territories were destroyed. Despite the salvation of the American mainland, the bulk of the American Army, Navy, and Air Force, stationed in China and the Pacific, were destroyed. The devastating losses, the collapse of the economy and the specter of nuclear winter resulted in massive unrest at home, and the American experiment soon failed...

The world had gone down the drain, that had been clear from the moment chinese troops stepped foot in siberia and the beachs of taiwan. And even the miraculous survival of the American nation from immediate nuclear devastation had been unable to prevent a critical collapse of government that soon swept up and down the continent. While the missile defense system may have spared them from atomisation it failed to prevent the fallout from asia being swept along the planet through its intricate and ever moving weather system. The southern hemisphere had suffered less and those who could had quickly escaped to Australia and New Zealand but today no planes left from any of the major airports in the nation. With the majority of Americas armed forces overseas at the time of devestation the government had few resources with which to retain order and those quickly fell to their own panic or some nutjob with a personal armory stored in his basement.

The people of Boston after a brief time of panic fuelled anarchy quickly found themselves in the middle of a very dangerous land that had splintered into countless gangs and dictatorships, not to mention the right wing religious nutjobs. A visionary and charismatic man had come to the forefront and promised a leadership that cared for its people and provided for them. It was blatantly obvious he had declared that the corrupt capitalist systems had failed utterly and even the so called communists had lost their way. The future was socialism and they would claim the future for themselves.

Whatever it was about this man that made people follow him no one could ever really say, maybe he was just charismatic, maybe people were just desperate for some hope, or maybe it was a mixture of that and more. Either way he moved quickly to recruit people to his cause and even managed to convince the local military forces who'd returned from europe, to support his cause. Questions as to his origin have been raised and the most widely accepted rumour is that his is a military man himself, though from where no one quite knows. A persistent rumour following this is that he was special forces and now without a government to recieve orders from has gone rogue in his attempt to create his own government. Regardless he managed to secure Westover and Hanscom airfoce bases along with the Naval Station New Port in Rhode Island.

Pulling together what resources he could, he greatly restored stability to the territory he controlled and the people there have returned to living a somewhat normal lifestyle, as normal as possible anyway. Using the power of the armed forces behind him and the extensive supplies he secured from Westover which was at the time of the disaster the worlds largest reserve airforce base, he has maintained strict rationing of food and technology and appears to be more or less even handed. However trouble makers have not been tolerated and have either been exiled or done away with quickly and quietly. What the future holds no one ones but it is more or less certain that for the Boston Commune this mysterious man who leads them will be an integral part of that future.

Viva la Mexico!!!!!

The United States of Mexico collapsed in the aftermath of the collapse of the world economy in early 2009, and the assaination of the President of Mexico with an orgy of drug gang-fuelled violence.. Cities such as Tijiuana became actual battlefields with open pitched battles between opposing sides. The United States mired in its own misfortunes was unable to offer but limited assistance.

Into the malestrom came the famed Mexican General Jorge Guiderreiz who regained control over the disperate factions of the army, and got them to successfully rally. Over the course of the next year til the end of 2010, Guiderreiz used a mix of diplomacy and calulated strikes to regain complete control of the Mexican country.

Quietly offering elections by 2015, while strengthing his powerbase at home, Guiderreiz began to rebuild his nation and more importantly the military and the resulting industries required therein. When the great catastrophe hit, and the United States broke apart, Guiderreiz began using that military to capture errant technology to the north of the border, further bolstering his forces.

There is even talk of possible conquest and the possibility that General Guiderreiz could call a new Empire of Mexico and lead the nation into its long overdue golden age.!

The collapse of the government caused panics among Texas people. Food, and gasoline price started to rise. The rich people, most were oil-rich family tradition realized that they could not relied on the central government troops. They appointed a famous businessman Alonzo Jr to govern Texas and restore order. Using the unlimited collected money he built strong ARMY, and emphasizing the improvement of the land for food resources, and guard the oil reserved.
