Joan of Arc NEVER was a leader. She was a kind of "mystic general".

- Louis XIV the Great.

- Adolphe Thiers.

- Georges Clemenceau.

As leader of France during WW1, he greatly helped the country to survive and then win (with the help of all our allies).
- Charles de Gaulle.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Gaulle No need to add something. He was probably the greatest French leader of all time. A recent poll in France make him the best among a short list where you can also find Napoleon for example.
I hope it will help. As you can see, there is no many woman. It's quite logical, as France dynastic system removed them from inheritance. Even today, in modern time, most woman were (are still) nothing more that just above average. We still wait for one......
