General Knowledge quiz II

In Febuary 1933, the then-Mayor of Chicago, Illinois was shot and later died from his wounds. Who shot him and why?

It was an Italian immigrant, who was trying to shoot Franklin D Roosevelt, but by accident hit the mayor (this happened in Florida if I correcctöy remember, both men were visiting the place). He had a rare (and maybe unknown) condition which made his stomach hurt terribly and caused more-than-usual flatulence. This combined with his poor English made him socially isolated, and he developed paranoia that FDR is responsible for this condition and therefore he tried to shoot the man. I believe he was later executed in electric chair.

I can't remember what the guy's name was though.

Correct. Wiki says his name's Giuseppe Zangara.

Ok. I take it is my turn since you revealed the name...

These three persons have something in common, quite many things actually (they are all male for example), but something so special, that I couldn't come up with fourth person to fit the crowd. So, who are they and what is that rare thing they all share? (Click the pictures to see larger)

I don't recognize any of them. Although the one in the middle seems familiar.

He's the one you're most likely to recognize. I'm pretty sure you have seen that exact picture somewhere.

One of them was, one should be.

EDIT: I was trying to answe Ulyaoth! Better leave that unchanged...

Now THAT is a classic moment in crossposting.

No, they are novelists. Some clues about their identity: #1 has recieved a nobel and has written a famous essay on mass psychology. #2 was for example sailor before he begun writing. #3, I picked that picture of him because it includes a hint to his identity. #4 is the only one of them alive, although he's over 80 years old now. He's often leading names in nobel prize speculation, and I for one see the fact that he hasn't recieved one as a sign that the prize is not given for literary merits. Especially as this man satisfies the critreium Nobel committee thinks is more important: he has been victim of political oppression.

No, but you're pretty close to the answer of my previous question (and for which the answer I intended never was presented as SS-ICMB provided other also correct answer).

This question has really nothing to do with Nobel or any other awards. Once you have regocnized one or two of these people, the answer will probably present itself.

EDIT: one more hint, the writers #2 and #4 are from the two core countries of East-Europe.
