there might be a better place on the boards to post this;p
map: pericles/immortal/standard/epic/shuffle- though probably continents

try to turn this hemorrhaging economy around in less than 9 turns. hint: after nine turns, it gets a lot easier.

briefly, you are nearing the end of a grueling though ultimately triumphant war against the spanish. however, they will shortly be able to field superior medieval units, thus ending the brutal legacy of carnage which destroyed the russian civ many turns earlier.

all of this warmongering has come at a price: small, cities, no :science: and an approval rating of 44% [still better than R. Cheney:mwaha:]. but the spoils include wonders and the mahabodhi, shrine of your continent's religion.

these screenshots are all recycled. they are from a game that i posted about a month ago for advice, so i know now that from this point in the game that i'm in a pretty strong position as far as land. however i'm in a bad way tech-wise.

to complete this challenge, you must reach tech-parity with at least one ai, namely isabella. post how many turns it takes in comments:thanx:

edit: click on the borg in my sig to download the game.

@ TMIT: yes, as long as you catch up with one of the ai, or machinery, optics, literature, feudalism, theology and maybe guilds before they invade you.

@ Soirana: it should load as long as you don't have any mods:assimilate:

@ shyuhe: i started with a lot of forests and chopped/whipped the 'mids and HGoB after hooking up stone and maths. it's rare that i have access to stone in my second city, so i try to take advantage of it whenever i can.

i'm 3rd for GNP in the demo screen, unless:
Spoiler :
have i ended the war yet in the save? i took the screen shots after i had played through the round.
running representation is really crucial to my strategy right now. i am totally overextended. however, the free :) in my big cities is helping counter whip:mad: and scientists in my smaller cities are paying for all of my :science:

fustercluck

Easy, sack the Scientists, hire merchants, raise the slider bar, switch into Caste system.

Run max Merchants in all cities except capital (bureaucracy assumed), run slider on gold from conquest/merchants.

Kill Bella, tech away happily

Opened the save.

Question 1: What the hell is going on with your military?! The units are spread everywhere, you have a Great General waiting for something, another Great General that has Woodman III, not Medic III, and 5 weakened Swordsmen in enemy territory.

Question 2: How were you planning on organizing your military? I suggest having two main stacks. One goes up from Seville, through Asturias (the 1 pop city), then meets up with troops at the north. The other should be the HA/Cat/Spear/Phalanx that hits Toledo and then turns west.

Now, my notes: I've only played the inherited turn (haven't hit the enter bar yet):
1) Added merchants wherever I could. (+6 gold)
2) Settled the Great Prophet. (+5 gold)
3) Switched Moscow from the mine to a Hamlet. (+3 gold)
4) Now that the starting deficit is gone, ramp up the research slider to take advantage of the 441 gold from the spoils of war.
5) Shift troop movements to organize them into two main and one minor stack.
6) Hit enter. Save. Post.

pericles never build cottages.
not even in capital. it should be your GP center.

@ shyuhe: nice times. in my game toku got the navigation bonus, rather soon if i remember correctly. but the ai was rather backward. i got to liberalism first and took astronomy around 1200-1400, very late; it looks like you won the lib race too, what tech did you take? i had to do it without any GSci, because i kept getting unlucky RNG. i used the GEng to rush the sistine chapel and the GPro to shrine corinth, sort of aiming for a cultural win, but i always underestimate how long it will take to win like this. i think that i popped a GArt and bulbed music for another GArt. i abandoned this game around 1650, figuring that i could win it, but not until around 1850-1950. really, if you look at how much land there is, the game is mostly a mop up. but thanks for trying it.

@ ppciv4: pericles never build cottages. not even in capital. fire, BAD!!!
i made you an avatar:p madrid is a better GP farm than athens.

@ Gooblah: both woodman III and medic III units with medic II both get +25% to healing on the same tile, so i took leadership promos instead of medic III, which would have given me +40% healing. so i guess it just depends on how you promote your warlords. the GG is waiting for a military academy.

as for your second question: i decided to DoP right here. i resumed war about 15-20 turns later and eventually took seville, santiago and toledo. as to your fourth point: ... ramp up the research slider to take advantage of the 441 gold from the spoils of war. i did this to get to calendar, which solved most of my [pissed] ww problems.
