Introducing the Strategic Grain Reserve National Wonder. :)

Change History:

Version 1 Released 16 Apr 2009

1. Eliminated all python except for one line of code needed to run the bik movie file. If you don't want to play movies for national wonders you can just delete the python folder which contains the CvEventManager.py file.

2. This is now one of the easiest mods on CivFanatics to merge into other mods.

Enjoy!

Looks like an interesting wonder. Might be a tad over powered. I will definitly put it into the BTS Wonders Add-on I am constructing

Glad you like it! :D Over powered is what was said about Sun Tzu's Art of War, which gives a free Barracks to every City. The Strategic Grain Reserve provides a free Granary in Every City. I custom modified the Witches Hammer to provide a free Temple in every City. Next, Wonder might provide a free Library in every City. See the pattern? :yup:

Bottom Line: is by design that these Wonders are very powerful. :king:

My only concerns is that its a national wonder, and that it is available very early in the game dispite its heavy hammer cost. Its a good concept, but its something that I think should be a world wonder, or be available later in the game.

Fellow Civ players and I thought about this Wonder long and hard.

1. National Wonder: We made this a National Wonder because most every nation can store up grain.

2. Timing: The earliest example of mass food storage I can think of is in Egypt, when Joseph saved up a 5th of the entire harvest for 7 years. That is a lot of food saved up and it was done a long time ago. We did not want to wait until most of our empire cities had already produced a Granary, as that would reduce it's effectiveness. We have played several games and the timing of the Wonder's completion is near perfect. It arrives on the scene with the discovery of Pottery and it requires at least one Granary to be produced before the Wonder can be constructed.

3. Cost: It should be very expensive. After all, it took 7 years for Joseph to save up all that grain. Hence, the Wonder takes a long time to produce due to the high hammer cost.

4. Bottom Line: The inputs above helped to develop this Wonder into what I have posted today. But, it is easy to make changes to it. You can make it a World Wonder, change the cost or move it to any tech you please. This is a mod component that you can tweak any way you want. The current version is just my recommendation, nothing more. So enjoy!

On your screenshot, the Strategic Grain Reserve has the cost 1050 :hammers:, but in my game it costs 350 :hammers:. Which amount is the right amount? 1050 or 350?

No, it says 350 :hammers: in the XML files and when loading the Civilopedia from the Main Menu...

I'm new to altering the games. I figured out what to do with all of the files except: thumbs, Strategic Grain Reserve.ini, and the jpeg. So it doesn't quite work when I load it. Can someone please help me out?

2 Things:
-The building looks great! Did you rip it or make it. If you ripped it, where from?
-Maybe it should generate a great merchant instead. Great merchants produce one food per turn when bulbed.
Also this seems great for RFC to counter plague.

I am playing Marathon which is 3 times the original value for a game played at normal speed.

3 x 350 = 1050

Ok, so I figured out how to get the great wonder to be in the game. The only problem I have now is that it shows a pink 'globe' where the picture should be. I have CIV4ArtDefines pointing at the files. Any experience with what I'm doing wrong?

- I ripped it and tweaked it several months ago. I can't remember where I got it.

- Hmmm... Great Merchant :commerce: vs Great Engineer :food:. The silos built by Joseph in Egypt, to hold a 5th of the entire harvest for seven years, was a huge engineering task. Yet, much, if not all of the grain was sold. Very tough call indeed. It could go either way. It's your preferance, as all you have to do is change the value in the XML:

File: CIV4BuildingInfos.xml

Code:
<GreatPeopleUnitClass>[B][COLOR="Red"]UNITCLASS_ENGINEER[/COLOR][/B]</GreatPeopleUnitClass>

This is a component mod, yet it can be played as a separate mod. If so, the ini file must remain in the folder. The jpg is just an informational picture and can be safely deleted along with the thumbs file, which Windows creates for image files.

Enjoy!

Yes. One of your path statements might be incorrect in the XML file:

CIV4ArtDefines_Building.xml

Make sure you have both the dds and the nif files in the same folder.

Thanks for the help. It seems the problem was that it was sized wrong..?.. I just increased the fScale and finterfacescale. I did both at the same time because it takes so long to load, so I'm not sure which one worked.

I concur. Late game starts consolodate a lot of the micromanagement of building new cities in the way they handle it. However, the cost for the buildings is paid in the settler. Still, easier to pay for it that way in a developped city than in a city that just plopped down.

I am wondering why there is python code with this wonderful building. It should be possible to do all it says it does in XML. In which case this could be a modular national wonder which makes it very easy to add into other mods.
