This is a New Rubber Resource I made to have something different than Tires for the Game map.

Rubber Tree and Bowl of Raw Rubber Sap. The Bowl of Rubber can be seen on all Terrain when the Rubber tree cannot be seen against other Trees for example.

Edit: Just so you know, this resource was made using the Original Conquest Resource Palette. It will be ok with the CIV III Resource Palette too.

Included Files:
Rubber Strategic Resource and Shadow
Large and Small Rubber Strategic Resource Civilopedia Icons
Read Me file and very small ScreenShot.

Edit: May 5th 2009... I added 3 Alternate Rubber Tree/Plants to the Upload in the Database IF anyone wants to get them that have already downloaded the first Upload.

You can download the File here

Very well done. :)

Just want to say that this Resource is simple and meant to be something to use other than Tires for the Rubber Resource.

It strikes me Funny that the End Result for a Resource is what is placed as the Resource itself..such as Tires for Rubber.

Well, Tires do get the Point across that it is Rubber anyway but Resources that we gain from the Earth and that have been "represented" in our games should look more like the Raw Resources they are and still be able to be understood as the resources they are suppose to be.

I am probably not alone when I say that I like to see more Realistic Things in the games, even if the games are SCI-FI or Fantasy.

I sometime wonder if it was thought more appropriate to make Resources appear as the End Result of Scientific and or Manufacturing procedures that most understand..... or try to make them as what they start out to be, Natural as they are found. The Original Game Concept would depict Water as a Faucet or Glass with water in it as the Resource for Water :)

Perhaps Gold should be Coins or Jewelry and Coal should be a Barbeque Pit

ok, I am rambling but ANY "natural" resource is not a Finished Product and I like to see this concept applied when possible :)

Except in certain scenarios, such as the Steampunk Mod, or the finished EFZI games, where the term 'resource' is more of a synonym for 'handy item'.

You seem to have a real talent, like Pounder does (for example), of choosing projects with lasting impact. This is a brilliant idea, and very much needed in most games. I love it.

I really like the resource, as it took me ages to recognize the original black circles as tires...
Same thing for Aluminium the "can"... should normaly be something red like Bauxite...
Maybe a bit offtopic, but does someone know why the resources palette is so different to the others?(pedia, buildings aso...)

A new rubber resource :), thank you very much. Of course I give it a try! :goodjob:

Glad some of you can use this Resource and I appreciate your comments... I am flattered

Samez... the Resource Palette is different because it was made to accommodate the resources that are in the Game... same for Buildings, etc... Just as Units use Different Colors in their Palettes, so do the Large Files that have Resources or Buildings, etc...

Just wanted to say that the Rubber Tree/Plant will tend to Blend in with Jungle or Other Trees in Forests but the Bowl of Raw Rubber sap is always easily seen.

I did experiment with coloring a shaded background for the Rubber Tree/Plant but no matter what colors I used, it looked terrible to me. It looked ok on some Terrains with a colored background but not on others. IF the Resource was only used on one terrain type, I could manage to color a background so the Tree/Plant would show well and continue to look good but this cannot be done with the limited Colors to accommodate all terrain Types.

Personally, I believe one Rubber Tree/Plant would tend to blend in with Jungle or Other Trees in a Forest anyway so this seems Natural to me. I could have made the Bowl of Rubber Sap larger but generally people tend to appreciate smaller resources so they do not ruin their Terrain and Map Graphics. This was the best I could do with the Conquest Resource Palette to make this Resource so it would tend to go well with almost any terrain and the many different terrain graphics that are used in Games.

I see this Resource on Grassland, Mountains, Jungle Mountains and Jungles as these small ScreenShot segments show:

Samez and Ares... Yes, the Aluminum Trash Can should also be a natural Resource and Bauxite is it.

The Reason the Original Resources mostly show finished products from the Resource rather than the Actual Resource is because at their Small Scale they are easier to see what they are.

I will see what I can do...by the way, I am not Gary :)

Looks great, Vuldacon.:)

I was never crazy about those rubber tires either.

I'm glad you did it this way, the screenshots look great.

I like this resource file but I am a technopeasant. What does it take to get the file into the game and can I do what is needed with Paint.net / irfanview / gimp?

Wonderfull job, I also like a more natural look on the resources. You are right allot of the origianl resources were made to be more easily recognizable. Do you use photoshop? Or some other program?
@Darski I do not know about the first 2 however Gimp allows you to save a correctly indexed pcx. Look in the tutorial section about adding resources.

thank you. Now I remember that that is why I got Gimp

Will play later today.

I added some Alternate Rubber Tree/Plants to the Upload in the Database IF anyone prefers to have the Rubber Tree/Plant stand out against Other trees, Jungle and Marsh. Personally I prefer the Natural color that does blend in, leaving just the Bowl of Raw Rubber Sap...but I included three colored Versions and I prefer the #1 Alternate IF a colored Tree/Plant is used because it is more Orange/Brown and stands out without looking as strange as other colors. The Conquest Resource Palette is limited so these are the best Alternate Colors I could manage.

You can get the very small Download again IF you would like to try them out.

Here is a small segment of a ScreenShot for the Alternate I like best if the Original is not used:
