Update 4, Year 600-800
The Shadow of Conquest
After the last centuries of slave revolt Yahkma has been on shaky ground. The growing resentment among slaves has been halted for a time by the crack downs of the Yahkma Imperial Army, however it has only succeeded in masking the greater economic problems that have come about as a result of the slave trade. The Emperor, however, has continued his fathers campaign of expanding the Yahkma Empire and streams of slaves have continued to flow into the capital. This steady steam has been maintained by the continued expansionist policy of the Emperor. The Indalos island chain (named after Inda) has been the main target of the expansion of Yahkma, who have put a much greater focus on conquering the islands. The driving force behind this is the growing fear of Inda and their dominance of maritime trade. Officials in Yahkma had hoped that by cutting off secure the islands before the Inda, they would be able to undercut some of their economic power. This strategy has, for the most part, succeeded in halting the Inda trade expansion however Inda still maintains its strategic position as a middle man between east and west Eljul (thanks Ninja!).
Despite their success in cutting off the Inda expansion, the Yahkma still had to contend with the slave population, which was now close to becoming the majority. The powder keg that was the Yahkma slave population was finally lit after the brutal slaughter of 13 slaves by an angry land owner. What triggered the land owners outburst is not clear, some have said that it was punishment after one of his slaves was caught trying to escape. In any case this event has been a rallying point for what would be termed as the “Great Slave Uprsing” of 732 which has taken place predominantly across the coast of mainland Yahkma. The Yahkma government was slow to respond after the slaves began to rebel, being occupied mostly in conquering the Indalos islands. This bought the rebels time to organize, and they have now fallen under the leadership of Sekar Freitz, a man who himself is the son of a slave. Yahkma may have been slow to respond, however when the scale of the rebellion caught the Emperor’s attention he immediately sent his troops to quell the uprising. Contrary to previous rebellions, the current revolt under Freitz has been hugely successful due to it’s the concentration of slaves along the coast, which allowed Freitz to rally many slaves without fear of reprisal mainly due to the ports being nearly empty of imperial forces. This concentration can be attributed to the Emperor’s previous order to expand the navy, which has caused a large migration of the slave work force to the coasts where whole forests have been ravaged in order to provide the timber for the new navy.
As newly trained soldiers from the capital marched on to the ports while the navy returned with the larger bulk of the army, who were off raiding islands and establishing settlements for Yahkma. All the while Freitz and the rebels had been setting up defenses at their position, which ironically has put the slaves back to work on another unpaid adventure. Never the less their defenses were significant enough to allow them to repel the first attack by the imperial army. This initial confrontation proved to be a rude awakening to imperial forces, who were accustom to swiftly crushing very unorganized rebellions, which cased them to take heavy loses in the first few days of the battle. However the imperial army quickly recovered from their shock and awe and retreated out of the reach of the rebels, setting up a perimeter in hopes of at least containing the rebellion as reinforcements from the sea arrived. Though this containment has worked for the most part, news of the rebellion has spread, prompting many slaves to revolt and in most cases, kill their masters and burn their houses to the ground. However these have been isolated incidents.
Upon the arrival of the imperial navy, bringing the mainland army its much needed reinforcements, they again marched on the rebels. However initial delay had allowed the rebels to further fortify their position as well as acquire much needed weapons from local artisans who had been captured in the mayhem, who have been forced to make a number of spears. These weapons were essential to the rebels, allowing them to mount an effective defense against imperial forces and repelling their second attack. After days of bloodshed and thousands dead the imperial forces ordered a retreat, and yet again moved back to regroup and hopefully get some much needed reinforcements. Now both forces stand cautiously on their respective sides, the imperial forces surrounding the slaves, and the rebels demanding independence.

Across the border to Attica efforts by the Yahkma Emperor to continue research have been met with great success. Trade of technology between the two nations has fostered greater trust between their peoples, who’s initial skepticism of each other wore down after enormously profitable trade. A major side effect of this increased cooperation has been the transference of Yahkma culture to Attica, while Attica’s religion has begun to filter into Yahkma. For now this has caused no problems however conservatives within the Attica have voiced concerns that the growing influence of the Yahkma within Attica may one day undermine the authority of the King.
(+1 Qualty Yahkma Navy)
In the Inda Kingdom despite cries for war, no move has yet been made by the King against Yahkma. Mounting frustration has caused many high ranking officials to openly voice their wish for war. A major proponent of this sentiment have been the Dak, who see Yahkma expansion into the Indalos islands as a direct threat to the trade interests of the Inda Kingdom. Further call to action, if not through war, then through diplomacy has been made by more liberal factions of the Inda court, who say that urgent attention must be payed to the potential destabilizing effects that the failing slave economy of Yahkma might have on the its neighbors. So far no action has been taken by the King, who has tried to walk the thing line of neutrality.
To the west life goes on as it has done for the past hundreds of years. The Thersaria have continued gradual expansion of their borders. The Spring Palace has been completed, causing a greater proliferation of the Thersarian religion of spirit worship among Thersarian subjects. The effects of this on Krchen have not been lost as many subject within this fledgling nation have converted. Some members of the Nuunshutists have voiced concerns that the Thersarian spirit worship could threaten the Krchen way of life but even the most conservative voices have only called for more efforts by the King to convert these non-believers to the righteous path. It remains to be seen whether this will take a turn for the worst, but all signs point to the continued peace and stability of the region, mainly due to both nations reluctance to conduct expansion without any violence what so ever.
The Sevorian people have continued to become a more sedentary culture, turning to agriculture rather than hunting to feed its growing population. This has facilitated the rise of trade within Sevoria, mainly due to the interest of Aralthon in Sevorian horses, which have become a prized possession within Aralthon. River trade of spices have become especially profitable to Sevoria, who have capitalized on the lack of centralization of surrounding tribes to acquire nearly exclusive trade rights and in many cases, outright take overs. Though some resistence has been met most was only in the form of a few angry farmers.
Aralthon-Arcadian War
The bloody war between Aralthon and Arcadia seems to have finally come to a close. Emissaries from both armies were exchanged as peace terms were discussed until finally a treaty was landed on in which both nations would with draw from each other’s land and Aralthon would repair all the damage which they had done. All seemed to be well as Arcadia had begun to withdraw from Thonite and return to their homeland. However Aralthon had no intention of following the treaty. Even as diplomacy was being carried out Aralthon forces were making preparation to attack Taltin. Within Taltin itself unrest had begun as an order for the release of prisoners was made in order to facilitate agricultural works that would be made to repair some of the damage Aralthon had done. Instead of being used as labor, many of the released prisoners went back to their lives of crime, and robbery had begun to be a common thing within Taltin. That was before the Aralthon had made their move, which consisted of purging the country side of any and all signs of human life, hunting down scouts sent by Arcadia with brutal efficiency and herding more civilians into Taltin.
It was on the year of 721, early in spring, when Aralthon made their move. First they sent their conscripts, who succeeded in overwhelming the weakly defended capital of Arcadia and slaughtering a new batch of archers. After the initial attack was made the perimeter was tightened around Taltin. What followed was the more brutal genocide ever recorded in history, even great that Aralthon’s first massacre in the Arcadian country side. Every male was rounded up and killed while the conscripts, hungry for plunder, sated their lust by dragging the women off to whatever place they could. Girls who were to young to be of use were killed along with the men. After months of raping and killing the commanders of the army ordered the rest of the women killed, their corpses thrown into giant pits. After everything of value was ripped off from the city the fires were then lit, first of the corpses rotting in their pit and then eventually the whole city was burnt. Perhaps the greatest triumph of the Aralthon, and indeed the greatest loss for the Arcadians, was the destruction of the black and white column that had come to symbolize the very essence of Arcadia. Large chunks of the stone column were broken off and sent back to the high command, what the Aralthon intend to do with this sacred stone is a mystery however some say they intend wish to stab the Arcadian King with it.
News of this massacre would have reached the returning Arcadian army, and perhaps would have hastened their return, were it not for Ashbar’s Angels, who were able two over take nearly every single runner from Taltin and kill them. However only sole scout was able to find the Arcadian army. Battered and bruised, the scout was carried to the Arcadian king where he barely managed to tell the king of Aralthon’s treachery. Immediately the king ordered the army to double its pace, driving his men to the brink in hopes of saving his beloved capital. But it was to little to late. Taltin was burnt to dust, every sign of life stamped from it and the surrounding area purged of nearly every sign of life. Every village that was close enough was burnt by Aralthon forces who greedily devoured the lives of Arcadia. The destruction of Taltin had taken longer that the Aralthon had anticipated and they had little time to move their troops before the Arcadian forces arrived. It was then that yet another devious plot was hatched.
The scene was set for the bloodiest battle in history, one that would span 3 days of non-stop fighting and leave the fields literally soaked in blood. There Aralthon army moved north, hiding in a near by valley as Arcadian forces moved within sight of their beloved capital. The cries of the Arcadians as their eyes were met with the shocking sight of their destroyed capital could be heard for miles. The King of Arcadia was in a rage, he immediately ordered the army to turn around, determined to hunt down the Aralthon army. He would not need to look very far as with a few moments of his order his scouts returned with reports of a large Aralthon force marching rapidly from the north. The Arcadian forces quickly mobilized into action, moving their lines to face Aralthon. Despite the loss of their capital the Arcadians began the fight with a viciousness that reflected their deep seeded hatred of everything that was Aralthon. Hour after hour Arcadia and Aralthon battled, each side never retreating as wave after wave of soldiers were sent at each other. It was the Aralthon who took the heaviest loss, their soldiers not having the vigorous need for vengeance that Arcadia possessed. However in the end Aralthon was triumphant, and the last King of Arcadia was struke down as he valiantly fought along side his men. Every last Arcadian was killed and nearly the entire Aralthon army was devoured in its effort to do so. In some places on the battle field the mound of bodies rose over 10 feet high, full of mutilated and dismembered bodies. Some men had resorted to fighting with their fists after their spears had been broken. The site now stands as a testament to Aralthon victory, but at what cost?
The agricultural centers of Aralthon have suffered greatly from the war, their surpluses been drained to feed the vast army that Ashbar V had made. Some farmers along the country side even set fire to their own crops to stop the Arcadian army from gaining any supplies, further harming the economy of Aralthon. Now the battered army of Ashbar V, nick named Ashbar the Gruesome, returns to Thonite, victorious, yet in mourning. So few return, so many have been lost. Aralthon stands on the height of its most triumphant moment, yet mound of corpses it stands on casts a dark shadow on it. What will befall the Aralthon now, as they have defeated their enemies? Will it be peace? Or war!
