I have a Warlord level game that I am trying to finish on a Diplomatic victory, I just built the UN. Now there are currently 5 other Civs, one of them is my vassal (Spain) and the other four are on another continent. The other four also have their own religion which hasn't spread to me, I know that Free Religion will get rid of the negative Diplo modifier. However I rather get the positive for actually being their religion as well.

When the vote for the chair to issue things to vote on, the other four civs voted for someone else. I still won but I don't think I will have enough votes to win.

You just built UN? 16th century? :D Why dont you go play Noble or something...

As for your question, I understand the other civilizations are not on your tech level? e.g. they still have longbowmen or musketmen at best? If that is the case, you can get some more vassals. Vassals always vote for his Lord :)

Good point perhaps I am a Noble level player now, but first I want to complete the current game I am on.

I may have to beat a few of them into capitulation though.

Gifting them some gold when you meet is a good way to get cheap positive modifiers, but it is a bit cheesy and does not last that long. Of course you want positive modifiers rather than no negative modifiers, yet you rather want the free religion situation rather than a negative modifier, right?

Do not forget that when you declare war, you will get negative modifiers for declaring on the Ai's friend as well. If you must war, try to get one big war rather than several smaller ones. The modifiers for declaring several times add up quickly.

You can check how many votes you need and how much you can get. You need a modifier of +8 in order to get some one to vote for you to win, and you need that AI to like you more than the alternative candidate. Keep in mind that there are also hidden modifiers that drag the +8 down, so if you see a +8 displayed then it is probably not enough to get a vote although it is hard to tell how much bonus you would need.

Ways to boost diplomacy are sharing a religion, sharing favorite civics, supplying the AI with resources - selling them will do that just fine - giving them favorable tech trades, opening borders, giving in to demands, sharing a war with the AI, and maybe I miss one or two.

Keep in mind that the AI will actually have an attitude towards you that is the average between their view of you and their voew towards your vassals. If they have +10 to you and -10 towards your vassal, they consider you as 0 even though the diplomacy screen shows +10. This means you have to be careful who you vassalise because it has a huge impact. If you vassalise an AI, you may have to vassalise several to secure a win.

Good luck, hope this helped!

Yes that does help thank you, I vassalised Spain long before meeting these other four on another continent. I do have the largest empire and between us both I got well over 900 votes, I think it may be enough to get be the Diplo win.

EDIT: It was enough, we won! Though I am sure now that Noble level will be different, as far as Diplo victory is concerned.

You opponent is charlie it seems.

- Gift liberalism to washington and run free speech
- Run hereditary rule, make sure the french stay in it
- Run theocracy, but without at state religion
- Gift all to +4 trade relations. Make some resource trades/gifts to all to get the +2 for that.

If you do those things, you'll eventually accrue enough diplo points to win UN. Whether that's preferred over just stomping them is up to you.

Yeah it was until they all started liking Saladin for some reason, Isabella and I won the UN though. Thanks for that tip way back in your first Let's Play TMIT, it's great allying with her!

:mischief: I was also sure that Vassals always vote for his Lord but it's not happening this to me :(

I have 3 Vassals but the annoying Gilgamesh  is always voting against me. Is it because I didn't force him to capitulation ? He joined me voluntary ...

And another question: is it easier to increase the voting power of your friends or to get an AI's who votes against you tho change his mind ?
