I'm running Windows XP. I am unsure what version of Test of Time I have. My problem is that, when I complete a game, the program freezes, and I have to forcequit using the task manager. I am unable to record my results in the Hall of Fame because of this.

I'm also unable to view the intro animation clip, but I am uncertain if this is related.

I'm running DirectX 10, if I recall correctly. On install, it asked me to install DriectX 6, but I did not, since, if I understand correctly, DirectX 10 is backwards compatible.

Is there a specific patch I should download to rectify this problem?

You can check the version of ToT in the Game Options menu (Ctrl+O). The latest is 1.1. You can download that here.

Sounds like it could be a video playback issue; ToT plays video when you complete a game. Check that you have the latest Indeo codec installed. Look in your Windows/System32 folder for the following file: ir50_32.dll. If it's there, make sure it's registered: type "regsvr32 ir50_32.dll" in the Run Box (minus the quotes). If it's not there, download it from here.

If you're using WinXP, you're probably not running DirectX 10 (there's no official version for WinXP, anyway). But, you're right; you don't want to be installing an older version of DirectX. The latest version for WinXP is DirectX 9.0c, August 2009 release.

Thanks for the tip Catfish....this solved my problem with the patched upgrade of the classic game to MGE also. Since having Vista I was not able to play videos on the MGE edition but still could with the classic version.

Just tried to install the latest Indeo codec and now everything works as it should.

Very late reply, I know, but thank you so much! <3

The opening vid is working now, so I'm optimistic that my new game will end smoothly. :)

I play Test of Time on my laptop (XP) and it loads with no problem whatsoever.

I was told a long time ago that you might be able to set your computer to emulate Win98. If you can do that, you might be able to fool the game into running properly.
