UPDATE TWELVE
The Aiweh settle a new colony, utilizing the latest in genetic engineering and cloning research to provide well-adapted workers for the new settlement. Exploration continues, though it would appear that the luck of previous years has begun to run thin, as only a few moderately useful worlds are located on the frontiers.
The Amoebas achieve a moment of great satisfaction as their home world becomes stable, harboring wonderful new life forms. Unfortunately, this blessing turns quickly into a curse, as one of their progeny adapts to feeding on colonial bodies (as well as just about any other organic material they have access to), and in short order the Amoebas find their numbers dwindling and their capacity to control the world around them fading. Effectively, the Amoebas are extinct from this point forward, as they cease to exist in truly intelligent collections and now serve simply as a mindless source of food for their successors.
The Bako Tellians experience a massive migration from the home world into the colony of Obra, greatly increasing the productive power of that world. New fleets are built, and the military forces of the Tellians continue to prepare themselves for a counter-attack against the alien invaders that had captured Tounis. Support for this endeavor strengthens the resolve and unity of Tellians everywhere.
The Capricocials hold their fleets steady, ceasing exploration to embark on a journey of scientific study in orbit of the Wulgurdler home world, as well as a diplomatic effort toward the Myzokans. Having cracked the basic principals of communication using the increasingly ambient radio chatter of the Myzokan fleet and colony, the Capricocial exploration fleet in the newly-settled Myzokan system of Sarford breaks its silence at last, offering friendly interactions and profitable cooperation, as well as apologies for the delay in communication.
The great Distopteran Hive Ship finally reaches Thaej, the home world of the Hletho. The pervasiveness of civilization all across this busy system would likely appear quite bizarre to the Hive, and curiosity about just how powerful the Hlethan hive mind must be grows within the Distopteran collective consciousness. Meanwhile, the Nekopterans achieve a point in which they are finally utilizing the full economic potential of their little colony world, as well as achieving a new level of technical understanding that leads them to consider venturing back out into the void. Though no active plans exist for this task just yet, the inevitability of this effort is obvious to them.
At the planet of Ges, the rebellious forces annihilate the defending loyalist fleet, turning their guns on major military targets around the system as well as on their home world. As rebel ground forces land at strategic points around the great cities of the Geskani, the Singularity government finally begins to crumble, leaving much of the planet--as well as the whole of Geskani civilization--in great disarray. Without the influence of controlling drugs, the populace feels riled all across Geskani space, leaving many of the colonies and fleets in substantial disorder. Though no immediate problems have occurred as a result, they are inevitable if not curbed pre-emptively.
The realm of the Hletho grows rapidly, as three new colonies are rushed and settled in the local galaxy. A new military fleet is deployed into its testing phases mere weeks before the arrival of the Distopteran Hive Ship, bringing slight ease to the more nervous clades that might have seen the immense alien vessel as some kind of threat. Several non-aligned clades migrate away from Thaej, disinterested in the growing control the Alliance has over the home world; they seek out new homes in the colonies, where cooperation with other clades is easier to avoid, though this also brings a bit of unease to the Alliance-linked clades already settled there. Hlethan exploration continues, bringing about the awareness of two new alien species. On the "southern" side of the galactic core, the
Tharaez locates what appears to be a colony world is located, and surely contact efforts will result immediately. On the "northern" side of the core, the
Rhetho discovers a system bearing primitive alien beings on a surprisingly hostile world. This planet is extremely volcanic, rendering vast regions completely uninhabitable, while other regions appear comparitively temperate and riddled with thermal vents and hot springs. The native life forms appear to be amongst the hardiest beings yet encountered, including the native sentients. Though lacking anything beyond the most basic of tools, they appear to be somewhat insectoid, segmented in body, six legs and two arms, large eyes, four massive wings, and numerous body flaps seemingly designed to catch thermal currents while aloft. It would appear that the large number of thermal vents are employed regularly to achieve lift, allowing the native sentients to fly and glide around their immediate environs while searching for food. Elsewhere, the military fleet centered around the vessel
Hrkan departs from the second contact event with the Orindi, and locates a far less interesting system, barely worth settling.
Iokolu explorers in the
Oluko-Ilume turn back from their exploration to assist in the settlement of a new world, utilizing their vessels for transport duties while the colony becomes better established. The explorers in the
Oluko-Ilomo, however, press on their work in mapping the galaxy. What they find, first, is fairly useful system that might warrant future settlement. Secondly, a few weeks into their survey work, a fleet of alien vessels appears in the outskirts of the system. What will come of this is unknown, of course, though it will likely be a fairly peaceful exchange.
The Ivkings barely manage to keep things in order along the southern frontier of Halvalla, withdrawing much of their military and civilian populations northward to escape the aftermath of the Southern Barbarians' nuclear barrage. Attention is focused northward again, and though no great assault has been launched, the end of the war can be seen on the horizon at last, leading to a long-awaited rise in social stability and economic projects across the Conferation. Strange objects descend from the sky, at first believed to be some kind of strange, last-minute attack by the few remaining Southern Barbarians, though upon being shot down and studied by Confederate scientists, it is discovered that their origin lies not with the Ivkings, but rather, some unknown alien intelligence. While the few remaining observatories fail to locate anything in orbit or beyond, the alien objects are closely studied by the Confederate scientists that can be spared for the task, a number that is steadily rising.
Kant society fractures as the refugee populations fleeing Sanctum and Parun split apart, traveling their own separate ways to find new homes among the stars, hoping to fly far enough out of the way to avoid the Phleghesh ever finding them again. Meanwhile, work on Okum continues, including the stabilizing efforts of several public figures that ease the population despite the growing danger they are in. The Red Fleet is dispatched to lure away one of the Phleghesh command carriers, engaging in a brief hit-and-run attack, escaping to an uncharted system and hopefully drawing their attention away from the direction of Okum. Elsewhere, the Kant formerly living on Parun locate a planet inhabited by strange, primitive aliens that appear to have willfully achieved a level of progressive stagnation, not appearing to be working toward any more advanced future than what they already have. After careful study, it would appear that these aliens, massive and imposing though they may be, are actually quite artistic and thoughtful. Their great size and strength seems to have been employed, along with fairly simplistic tools, in sculpting the land itself in many places to create great artworks out of the very landscapes they live on. These creatures support themselves on four extremely long, powerful legs extending down from their bulky, tubular bodies. On their undersides are six arms, each bearing four extremely dextrous fingers. Their bodies appear to be covered in various sensory organs, many of which are very powerful, likely granting them a vast understanding of the world around them simply by existing within it. It is believed that much of their artwork lies outside of the realm of natural interpretation for the Kant, as their senses are far less developed.
Elements of numerous Kekeji insurgent forces coordinate to bomb a military facility on the home world, doing considerable damage to both the military units stationed within and the stability of the society those military units protect. Despite this rising unrest, Kekeji scientists engage in completing a leap forward for scientific understanding of the universe. The two Kekeji combat-oriented fleets take up positions, on in the system where "One" was encountered, the other traveling to the Murgler home world to observe the natives and guard them against possible alien attack. Meanwhile, the two exploration fleets return to the home world for retrofitting and repairs.
The Lelinthian Fleet Warden Kelethletel finally leaves Sneed behind, ultimately deciding to not involve herself in the complex affairs of the system. Instead, she ventures "northward" to explore the galaxy further. Meanwhile, Lotholitel does likewise, turning away from what is likely to be more Hlethan colonies and venturing out to the very edge of the galaxy. There, she and her fleet encounter the home world of the Nhroaat SsKraed, a species apparently actively producing substantial military equipment in orbit. Though she does not immediately feel threatened, the fleet is placed on alert at the edge of the system while she attempts to achieve communication.
Myzokan colonists settle the Sarford system, while the exploration fleet in orbit of the star continues to attempt to contact the strange alien fleet. Finally, communication is made by the aliens in an oddly accurate attempt at the Myzokan common language. The aliens offer friendship and profitable exchange, though the details are as yet quite lacking. Elsewhere, a new exploration fleet is built in system (C/E-B) to carry on the work of exploring the local galaxy.
Nhroaat SsKraed military forces engage the bizarre crystalline object in orbit of Krensht one last time, the exploration fleet joining the newly-rushed combat fleet in its attack on the entity. Again failing to disrupt its activities, the two fleets find themselves lifeless like those that tried before them, and soon after, the planet experiences the same fate. As contact is lost with the Krensht colony, the Nhroaat home world begins mass-producing warships for future engagements, though a snag in their plans occurs: another alien species arrives, this time in space-faring vessels instead of giant crystalline structures. Slightly put at ease that it is not the crystal entity, though still put off at aliens suddenly arriving in the home system, the fleets go on alert despite their unready status. Nothing has occurred with this contact just yet, though the Nhroaat grow anxious by the minute.
Orindi scientists, driven by successful contact with the Hletho and the knowledge that many other alien species exist in the galaxy, further their pursuits of technological progress. Though no efforts have been made to venture beyond their home system, many among the city-ships begin to debate the wisdom of doing so.
Phleghesh command carriers hunt out the Kant, finding little success. In orbit of the former Kant colony of Parun, the Phleghesh discover a primitive species of sentient beings that seem to have once lived under the Kant, confirming numerous theories about how threatening the Kant truly were. To the Phleghesh, it was obvious that the Parun were slaves, and the Kant had ruined their world for reasons unknown. Deeming them still a threat and suffering in the aftermath of Kant conquest, the Parun were euthanized as a species, rendered extinct. One Phleghesh command carrier returns to a system that had previously been explored by the Phleghesh encounters a Kant raiding party, hitting and running off; the Phleghesh will likely pursue. An expedition of two fully-stocked command carriers is sent to the Hutthh colony to fend off the last remaining alien vessels, only to find that they had already retreated. Tensions continue to rise, despite this fact, as the Phleghesh realize that another trying war is likely ahead of them.
Pohm explorers press on, the Thun nation locating a wretched, smog-choked world bearing few, but very hardy, species of native life. The local intelligent species appears highly industrialized, every vast settlement teeming with exhaust towers pumping toxins out at a constant. The natives are squat lumps of dense flesh, ringed with arms and eyestalks. Though they are incredibly slow (only able to propel themselves by effort of their arms), they seem highly productive and very happy, over all, to be alive. Elsewhere, the Kekim nation establishes a new colony, and one of the existing colonies is paid a visit by Hlethan explorers. Independent research efforts uncover amazing breakthroughs, and quite by accident, leading the the wide-spread usage of amazing new, inexpensive industrial materials.
Raer explorers encounter what may, in fact, be the exact opposite of their previous discovery, locating a system of very little economic value. A new colony is founded, while propaganda is spread by the ruling AI to further stabilize the population of the Raer domain. The exploration fleet on the "western" frontier pulls back for repairs following alien attack.
Satellian engineers continue to mass-produce space-faring vessels, including a fleet of hybrid vessels, built on a Combat Ship hull though trading firepower for speed and range, ending up with a breed of exploration ship capable of withstanding considerable punishment while exploring dangerous regions of space. A fleet of experimental warships are created, bearing non-standard weaponry, including various electronic warfare devices intent on scrambling hostile targeting and guidance systems, as well as possibly directly interfering with hostile computer systems. Additionally, another standard combat fleet is produced. The colony on the lush jungle world of Ulann is expanded gently, while elsewhere in that same system the industrial and mining efforts are expanded considerably, thus leaving the natural balance intact on the surface of Ulann itself. Satellian ecologists keep an eye on the small Hlethan outpost on the planet, wary of too much interference with the natural ecosystem. One of the more damaged combat fleets is utilized elsewhere, founding an outpost in system H/C-B to act as the forward military post for any possible future interactions between the Satellians and the Geskani, taking some military pressure off of Sneed. Explorers, put off slightly by the hostility of the Ivkings, venture forth into yet another contact scenario with a previously unknown species called the Iokolu, while other exploratory efforts go toward understanding and mapping the galactic rim. The immense and impressive Diplomatic Ship takes its first interstellar voyage, arriving with considerable fanfare at Sneed, where vast, mind-obliterating parties are held about the system to celebrate Satellian-Snuddian relations and the creation of such a magnificent vessel geared solely toward peace. The list of destinations for the Diplomatic Ship steadily grows and shrinks as new places are added and removed regularly, though it would seem that many have settled on a definite voyage to Ulann, Thaej and possibly the home world of the "Horindi" whom the Hletho have informed them of.
The Seipas Yag experience internal troubles as civil unrest sweeps the colonies and home world alike, thanks to unsafe working conditions and the lack of concern for good living conditions in newer settlements. Otherwise, the colony on the ruined alien home world of Umbar is expanded.
Skul'agran settlers venture bravely to Shor'ath, expanding the colony there on the assumed front line of the conflict with the Tellians. Though they aren't certain, these settlers believe that greater labor forces will be needed to maintain the military presense on the front and repairs should the war turn against them in any fashion.
Snuddian scientists press ever onward in their pursuit of creating the perfect machine, bringing about an era of wide-spread Proxy usage, as the machines become considerably less expensive and more easily repaired or replaced, lending to a considerable increase in productive efficiency. While the Permanent Proxies remain in the experimental phase, the standard Remote Controlled Bodies find usage in otherwise uninhabitable conditions around the home system. The Satellian Diplomatic Fleet arrives at Sneed with incredible fanfare, greeted by the Snuddians with celebrations in equal to those given for the return of the Vrun the Ever-Heroic.
Ulmans Kungs continue to explore the galactic rim, growing ever more concerned and ever more curious as to the goings on of the galaxy. More devastation is found, this time being relatively fresh wounds on the worlds they explore, bringing them to realize that the alien war they are so fascinated by is possibly one of current history and not ages past as once believed. Huge colonial expeditions are sent forward, while a military-grade fleet is rushed to completion and preparedness in order to come closer to the frontier, just in case this alien war turns its horrible head in their direction.
Undroth scientists continue to unlock the mysteries of the universe, though otherwise, all is quiet in Undroth space.
