Turn Discussion Thread

I'm not suggesting we go SW more than one turn though, so we'll see the north, we'll just see the south as well first.

I also think we particularly don't want to fight the barbarian warrior sooner rather than later. It's spawn-busting for us in the meantime, and in a few turns we'll have a second warrior to back up the first in case it loses. When we do fight it I'd like it to be from a jungle square not just a hill, moving to the copper almost guarantees fighting the warrior next turn from just a hill.

The only worry I have about SW in that regard is the risk of finding another warrior down there.

There's quite a few turns (about 9) between now and when the settler will arrive, loitering around in the meantime doesn't help us much.

So, a dead end to the channels. The people who argued for exploring clockwise and avoiding the channels can feel vindicated now.

Being technically one continent, should we go back to naming it all Andromeda? I actually like having different names for the different spokes anyway.

The barb will also probably be crossing a river

I think this further supports getting the horses hooked up sooner (after copper): we can use chariots for exploration. Immortals could have a field day with opponents who don't have metal hooked up...

I think naming the spokes is sensible.

Yeah, I think even if it's just one piece of land we should go for the several designations.
Bode? It's ok by me, but since we're calling Andromeda as it is already, we could go for a more themed nomenclature. I just added this for reference.

And there goes The Nexus!...Or maybe not. It still holds to it's name.
And wanna bet that no team is going to settle in the center of The Nexus? :D (And not just because of the lack of food, mind)

What's the penalty applyed to a non-amphibious unit attacking over a river? 25%? The 50% forest defence sounds much better even if the barb is still on the other side of the river.

And I think that turning Voyager around it's better instead of exploring jungle and desert tiles. We might want to ponder this before doing so because Merlot will start to think why did we turn around.

I think turning around makes a lot of sense. It's pretty obvious at this point that the map has been designed so strategic resources aren't visible from the coast, and the only way to find them is by overland exploration. So Voyager's main role at this point is meeting other teams. That is not going to happen in this dead-end channel.

I am also in favor of exploring around the copper. In particular, I want to get a look at the north coast. But, I would rather not risk the barb. He'd only have a 25% chance if we moved onto the copper, but I lost the fight in a test game. :p

(PS - The victory by the Sirian Empire's terrestrial ancestors bodes well for us. I hope :king:)

Flatland forest is 50%. Hill is 25%. Over a river is 25%.

I know that. But you only get the river bonus if he has to cross the river. Work out for yourself if you don't believe me the odds of him still being on the other side of the river after he's moved twice and given that we haven't seen him. I'm pretty sure it's >50% chance that he's not crossing a river, but regardless of the exact value it's an unnecessary risk.

Ugh, I hadn't watched it yet, and of all the places I didn't expect to be spoiled on the results of the world cup game... :)

Sorry about that!

So, can we reach some sort of consensus about moving Pallas? I've stated my preference above. I think that regardless of whether she moves SW to the hill or NW to the copper, we should do some exploring on the west side of the copper, if only for a short distance. I don't think camping on the copper until the settler arrives is the best use of the warrior. I am also more inclined to move SW to avoid the barb. I think we should avoid fights that aren't heavily in our favor.

Anyone vehemently disagree with a "1SW, then around the copper" plan?

1 SW sounds good. I was for moving onto the copper originally, but we've got time before the settler arives so we may as well look around a tad longer. before securing the settlement site.

There didn't seem to be much objection to moving Pallas 1SW first then exploring around the copper hill, so moving along:

Turn 55 - 1800 BC

Enterprise moved 1SW + 1S and discovered the points of the star continent are connected:

And Voyager moved 2W and just revealed more channel:

Vesta saw a barbarian warrior, but continued SW to meet up with Enterprise on her return:

Pallas moved 1SW and discovered lots of hills:

Lord Parkin moved to the gold hill in Canopus to begin building a road:

======================================================

I don't see much point in Voyager continuing west to the dead end. We might as well save a couple of turns and meet the other teams sooner by turning around. Enterprise has to head back next turn anyway.

Bode has a lot of hills. It looks like there are more to the west and south of Pallas.
