SGOTM 12 - One Short Straw

I don't really see why we have to save gold right away, esp. if we're not getting to PH on T52. Ok, it doesn't really make a difference...
The point of right now is that we're not wasting the library 25% bonus, becuse the library's not done yet. It adds a couple beakers per turn later on. Not huge, of course, but if we can't get Phood T52, then my reasoning is why not save as much as possible while still getting Phood on T53? That's all.

Priesthood T52

Guess I needed a bad night's sleep...of course we can get PH on T52. We needed 4b and we get it by not switching the gold from Moscow to Fish City until T52. That only delays the wb one turn. You can try testing that, bcool, to see how it plays out with your other plans.

The save below is corrected for beakers and Meditation. It's based on the idea that on T40 you would run 60% research to acquire 4g cash, then on T41 you would run 100% research. When you settle Fish City, you build a wb but you leave the citizen on the lake till Phood is done.

 Excellent work, LC!

This looks really good to me. I just tried a couple of runs. (Giving DG ivory instead of marble stops him from building Oracle, btw) 1440 BC via Math and 1400 BC via Alphabet. I'm only 17b short from 1440 BC via Alphabet, which is roughly 11-12 base commerce in Moscow. Wonder if it's possible...

As far as I'm concerned, we can go ahead and play the 3t following LC's plan, stop for a short consult and then play through to T52 Priesthood.

testing LC's latest save...
I can get the Oracle by 1480 BC with Math
Or I can get the Oracle by 1480 BC with Alpha 2 turns away (which means if we are not threatened by other AI for the Oracle we can build a chariot and delay the Oracle until 1400 BC with Alpha)

So I'll play 3 turns to scout De Gaulle saving 4 gold (with eventual plan to stop my turn at 2000 BC and leaving the math or alpha question until later)

I'll play those 3 turns only in about 12 hours (and if everyone is online for comment after posting the results of the scouting play out until 2000 BC)

I've got other commitments Thursday evening, so if I can't finish tonight I'll finish my turn Friday morning/evening.

Okay I played 3 turns and it looks like the path to Paris is very very long.

Saved 4 gold and started teching mysticism.

Haven't moved the workers yet.

T41 Churchill adopts slavery (so learned BW on Turn 40)
China +6 score (grows 1 pop)
T42 French +5 score (grows 1 pop)
T43 China -17 score (whipped 3 pop)

Mao is going to town. Thank goodness he's not on the Oracle path. Seems to me like you might as well play on till the settler is done and then we can take a look. Does that make sense?

We could conceivably get Mao to Friendly if we bee-line State Property. He'll go up to +6 for favorite civic. Before SP, though, it's (virtually) impossible.

What units does de Gaulle have in Paris?

xpost: Please make sure you have saves. Not sure that knowledge would change anything right now, would it? We definitely want to know that.

de gaulle has 2 archers and 1 warrior

edit: do you want to chat on skype or a similar program?
edit#2: do you want me to upload the save?
edit#3: I will attempt to figure how to determine how many know meditation and poly using your spreadsheet but would go faster if you helped me figure it out.
edit#4: that knowledge wouldn't change anything, I guess knowing if anyone knows priesthood would be more significant.

 He might kill his warrior eventually. Anyway, I'm headed to dreamland so do what you think is right. If you guys decide to play on to Phood, fine with me. The only detail on the worker moves that I noticed is that if the thrid worker is planning to move to GoldN, it might as well be roaded already by the other worker, after he finishes scrubbing. Unless you've got worker moves otherwise fine-tuned to your Oracle plans of course.

Ok, I'll play through to the settler since I don't think our plans need to change. I'll wait 3 or so hours to see if there is an feedback from the others just to be safe.

The rush on Paris will likely take longer than we previously thought. I still think it is on our landmass based on the culture spread, but the path could be very long like I said.

I'm wondering if we should switch epps to dG. It might be convenient to be able to switch him out of slavery before we attack Paris, so he can't poprush defenders, but I'm not sure how much it costs.

I assume we'll want to use a galley or two to attack Paris. It would be nice to find a decent site on his side of the coast. His capital looks like its positioned well for us to more our capital there eventually, or maybe build the FP there or whatever. It could also have Moai.

My internet crashed... :(

Paris is not on a hill! That's great! We definitely need access to Paris asap.

Okay, the civics espionage mission costs a fortune, so forget about switching epps. bcool, not sure you use this, but if you zoom out and toggle on display of culture, it allows you to spot an AI's culture 1 tile deep into the fog. I do this every turn when I'm exploring. It's quick and effective.

Good luck!
