Hello everybody!

I started playing Civilization with Civ4 and now I thought it would great idea to buy Civ5! Well after Civ4 the Civ5 is bit of a disappointment - at least at the moment. Game has definately been released prematurely as you can read from Forums. Hopefully upcoming patches and mods make Civ5 more at par with Civ4!

Now that Xfire supports Civ5 fully in dx9-mode I got to make some video clips to my youtube channel from my last test-run with Oda Nobunaga vs Washington.

The run was quite interesting, I played the game for over 1000 turns and found out some really weird stuff which clearly shouldn't be in game if developers would have tested it correctly! Enjoy the footage:

Exploring world with nukes!
Nuclear bombing barbarians and exploring world with NUKES! - YES, NUKES!? Note the description on this one stating the destinies of tile improvements. Why didn't that Gold Mine evaporate?
Wonderful AI of Civ5
Rebuilding improvements in enemy lands
Building (rail)roads for my enemy!
Buying Negative Influence from City States
Ending the 1000+ turns test-run
My Channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/ahadhd

More to come tomorrow! :hammer2:

Edit (Oct 18, 2010):
Decided to make a list, of all the crazy stuff I've found out so far, for easier access (in order of appearance):

How AI really should respond to trades Now the AI changes the gold/resources and their values accordingly! Clearly a bug why it didn't work in that earlier clip!
Analysing yield in-depth
"Here we can see that yield gives away quite a lot of information. Such as what policies are used by a civilization, does that civilization have golden age and so on.
I also noticed that either policy Free Thought is broken or it isn't showing up in yield correctly since it should give a +2 science to a trade post instead of just +1!
Bugger!"

Edit (Oct 19, 2010):
Attacking "naval" unit with other naval unit
How many turns it takes for AI to set up Fishing Boats (after finding a Fish resource)?

Edit (Oct 23, 2010):
2K-forums thread can be found here: Thoughts from Civilization 5 Beta Test!

Why AI doesn't attack the lowest HP unit? I hope they have fixed this issue in current v.1.0.0.62 patch!
UI overlap hides half my promotions Ohh, why? And I'm using smallest version of the UI!

Welcome to the forums.

Please feel free to show us more ciV follies.

Thanks.

If somebody here is interested I have autosaves from turn 490 to turn 1000 (autosave every 5th turn).
Got the initial 4000BC save also, now I hope I'd have the middle ones too!
But I don't, they got overwritten  → learned from it and changed max autosaves to 1000 :goodjob:

Recordings are from Civilization 5 v.1.0.0.20 - No mods were used at any point

More of those "follies" (lovely new word for me!) coming up soon!

Here is my game set up:

Got hooked with the Civfanatics forums... I think that isn't too uncommon around here :D

Finally got some new clips:

I'm not sure it's been mentioned before somewhere else, but you can also pillage roads built inside neutral territory with no declaration of war or diplomatic penalty.

That was fascinating. I hope some powers-that-be see these.

By the way, you can turn Yields off, make for a much more clearer display.

The reason why in your "AI acts stupid" thread Washington doesn't accept your terms, I theorize, is because you offered him 33 gold instead of the 2000+ he originally asked for. :P

Good finds on other things though.

Yeah, that works like a charm

I don't understand the I hope some powers-that-be see these. sentence... could you or somebody explain it to me?

And what comes to yields I tend to forget them on every time I record the video. Since knowledge is power the yield and resource icons are 95% of the time checked when I play. I know, it looks cryptic :crazyeye:
As far as I know you can actually see if another player is in golden age by checking their yield!

Nice finds :)
Thanks.

Mmmmh, I can't say it's the reason behind the AI declining my offer! Mostly because I'm pressing the What would make this deal work? button, and usually the AI will change the amount of gold or luxuries etc. you offer to suit more his/hers liking!

Ok, some of these i noticed by myself, but the city automation....

Absolutely crap...
Depends what you mean by city automation :D

Some1, it simply means that I hope the moderators or 2K-liasions or 2K sees these.
You are free to spread the word!
On my behalf the vids are staying on youtube, and the "powers-that-be" can finally see their creation play tested *properly, that is*! :spank: :D

Baba Yetu was awesome! Thanks! I heard that melody like hundreds times and even singed but never had a slight idea that this is The Lord's Prayer in Swahili :)
Me neither, I had no idea what the song was about until I made the clip to YT.

As with these two:

So I went to do some digging again and to my surprise found out yet another bug! Clearly made a mistake there :crazyeye:
Civ5 is at the moment more of an eye-candy than it is a Civilization-title!
:spank: @ Firaxis, honestly! :hammer2: :aargh:
:stupid: I'm getting the feel of being beta tester now!!! FFS, WTH are/were they thinking!? :aargh::aargh::aargh:[pissed][pissed]:thanx::stupid::xmassign::newyear:

The city-state influence was interesting, not sure how that happened.

Great stuff.

Useless future tech was funny.

Firaxis and 2K Games need to be seeing this.

I think I know how to get negative influence purchase, basically the longer the game goes on, the amount of influence you can get by showering the city states with will reduce. The lowest I ever got is 25 influence for 500g.

whenever it hits zero, city states probably will outlive their purposes to me and I'lll invade them for resources lulz.

I thought about making post on 2K forums with title; Thoughts from Civilization 5 Beta Test! I really feel like we're playing beta. With a minor exception that we actually paid in order to participate.

Yes, I drew same conclusions. I think there's some formula which dictates the behavior of this. Thought I had written about it on YT but it turned out I had not...
