How to remove the road spaghetti under trading posts entirely?

You might know about "trading posts redesigned" by poncratias. He changed the tents to have darker, wood-like colours, making them look like wooden huts.

He announced to do something about the ugly road spaghetti, too, but nothing happened in the last few weaks. So I tried it myself yesterday, but I'm not sure how to do it.

I unpacked the fpk files into dds and I can open them with GIMP and dds plugin. I found 20 files with "trading" in their name in this folder:

C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\sid meier's civilization v\resource\DX9

One of them is the UI symbol, the others are divided into "med" and "mod" trading posts (medieval and modern I suppose). This makes 10 "med" files (and 9 "mod" files, dunno why).

Some of them are the textures for the roads, in natural coulours with a chess pattern as background, obviously meaning transparency. But then there's also a blue-ish version of the same object. What do I have to do to make the road network invisible?

While I believe removing the spaghetti as a whole would be a good alternative to the vanilla look, it would also be possible to cut the outer roads, turning it into wooden huts around a central square = a village ;)
 
Yes, I'd love to change it myself, but I have never used Photoshop/GIMP and don't have the time right now to learn it for this (supposedly) small change (I'm changing job and city these days).

There has to be some not overly complicated way to make (parts of) the ground texture transparent, so that the weird path network is either removed or reduced to a village square. Together with "Trading posts redesigned" by poncratias, which changes building colours to a wooden appeal, we should get nice villages instead of circus tents.
 
Any update on this? The tent cities aka trading posts literally make my eyes bleed; it's even worse when there's a unit on top of it...
 
The simplest method would be to follow the XML for the art def to find where the game calls for the graphics, but the only reference I see for the art def is when the improvement calls for it. I can't find the art def itself. Thus it's not defined in XML.
