I'm working on a scenario about feudal Netherlands. I mean historical Netherlands also including Wallonia, Luxembourg, Flanders, northern France and some part of Germany.

Here's a preview :
benelux_pvw1.jpg

I have some problems with the following civs :
- County of Zealand ( !!!!! )
- County of Friesland ( !!!!! )
- County of Gueldres ( !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! )
- County of Flanders ( !!! )
- Duchy of Brabant ( !! )
- County of Artois
I need leader names, and lists for cities, scientific and military leaders, especially were I wrote a lot of "!" ;)

There's a problem with oil because it should be in the North Sea. What's the best solution :
- create a modern naval unit "naval ingeneer" able to build pipelines ( roads ) and platforms ( colonies ) in sea/coast tiles ?
- place some small one-tile desert islands with oil in North Sea ?

I don't know yet if I will make a mod with civpedia, UU, leaderheads. If you're interested by a complete mod, tell me. And any help if welcome, especially to translate civpedia from french to english ;)

I was previously unaware that the Dutch in the 1200s had oil rigs...

In 1200, no. But now they have. My scenario is based on feudal territories but it's not stick to middle-age. ;)

Oke...first question:

Where u from?

Second question:

County ? <== u mean some sort of capital?

HINT of ur oil problem!!
The island Texel (Noordzee) is 1 big sand island. Maybe u can put it over there.

Wallonia. Why ?

Some counties have the same name as their capital city ( Namur, Liège, Limbourg, Luxembourg ). Arras is the capital city of Artois. The others have names different from their capital :
Flanders : Ghent
Brabant : Brussels
Zealand : Middelburg
Hainaut : Mons
...

I thought about it. But Texel is much too close of the coast. There's no oil there. I'd like oil to be in the middle of the North Sea. It would oblige civs to fight for it :D

200 km North of Den Helder there is an oilfield.

And why I wanne know where u from? Just a question and becuz Iam Dutch :P

County of Zealand = Middelburg
(The english translation of Zeeland is Zealand)
- County of Friesland = Heerenveen
- County of Gueldres = Arnhem
(The english translation of Gelderland is probably Gueldres)

@Eliminator. Thanks, I'll change it :)

Could you give me lists of cities and military/scientific leaders ?

Is the County of Gueldres large enough ?

Is there another county/duchy/principalty... I could add ine the Netherlands ? I was also thinking about splitting Holy Roman Germanic Empire into Saxe, Prussia,...

The AI can't use sea workers, just make some small islands with oil, if you absolutely want oil in the scenario. You could also remove it (and rubber too, I suppose).
BTW, with that map, I really hope you have disabled settlers...

I"d imagine "Zeeland" would translate as "Sealand" in English. (Hmm, although there is "New Zealand" to consider...hmmm!) "Gelderland" sounds fine, I'd imagine English speakers would find it easier to pronounce than "Gueldres" :crazyeye:!

OK, I'll go for the islands solutions about oil.

I still don't know. Should I add more cities or disabled settlers

I think I could make three different things :
- benelux map with just custom civs and starting locations
- feudal netherlands scenario, stick to middle age, settlers disabled
- belgium-netherlands mod : with UU, leaderheads, city graphics,... with only starting locations.

What do you think ?

@Unscratchedfoot :
It happens about XIII century. It that time, there were lots of counties, duchies, principlaties,... in what is now Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and northern France. There were lot of fightings, like the "war of the cow" that made 20.000 people die and destroied 60 villages because a cow was stolen from a famer of Liège by another one from Namur :D

I'm not "belgiumish". I'm walloon, while it's written "belge" ( belgian ) on my ID. But it's not the point ;)

There oil in the north sea. So, for games that aren't stick to middle-age, I want to place one tile desert islands there to have oil.

@Lares : I didn't think about Burgondy, but it could be a nice addition. The problem is Burgondy doesn't appear on the map. And if I want it to appear, I should include half France ! I need to find a solution

I will see if I can find some more info.
Will come back later.

Map of The Netherlands in year 2004 with its 12 provinces
Keep in mind that in the years 1700 and 1800 the map looks different.
kaartnederland.jpg

And to give u an impression where u can find the cities.

steden.jpg

What u mean with leaders? In what year? (that will be a hard 1 to find.)

I would like to have names of Counts, Dukes, Princes,... of Zealand, Gueldres, Holland, Friesland and Brabant, one for each. It should be as close as possible from 1200, but any medieval would fits. And if one of these could be a woman... :D

I need list of cities for each of those coutnies. I mean ancient counties, not nowadays provinces ;) And I would also need two lists of leader names for each county. One list of scientific ( or artistic ) leaders, and one list of military leaders.

As an exemple, for Flanders :
Leader : Count Boudewijn

Cities : Ghent, Brugge, Ieper,... but not Mechelen ( Duchy of Brabant ) or Hasselt ( Principalty of Liège ) And of course french cities such as Lille ( Rijsel )

Military leaders : Jan Breydel
Scientific leader : Mercator, Rubens

I allready have pretty good map of nowaday Netherlands. If you can find maps of ancient coutnies. That would be great !!!

And you'll have credit of course :goodjob:

Leader:
Willem van Oranje (1533-1584).

Its hard to find Leaders from the different provinces.
Easier = leaders from The Netherlands
But then I have to do some Dutch history (and dont like that really mutch, bucuz we have alot of histroy in our little country)

Btw.. Coal is found in Limburg
