NCSG2-Team 2-Lincoln!

So I'm up "Got It"

Okay, Nice! :) finally mangaed to prise Philosophy out of Justin. We should be pretty safe getting Lib. I think Gatling Guns has a point about Mehmed, we need to start thinking about what were going to do with him.

Anyway, Next 10 turns...

Get the settler to the infill city site, Keep clearing the jungle in the mean time. Possibly give 1 chop to speed up the NE in washington. keep an eye on what Justin's teching. Sounds straight forward enough... even for me :crazyeye:

Just to clarify, the site marked "infill city" is okay? I mean we can chain irrigate through a city right?
Yes to the bolded.
Everything else seems to be accurate :)

Okay next ten turns are up!

Inherited Turn,

Everything seems to be in order, the only thing I adjust is switching NewYork from working a 3food farm to a 4hammer mine, shaves a turn off the settler.

Hit Enter

Turn 301 - 1405 AD

Okay some good news,

NCSG2_groo_401.jpg

Okay it looks bad, as were 2nd from last, however just is top which means no one out there is further ahead of us than him. Well it sounded like good news. :crazyeye:

Phili finishes Longbow > starts another Longbow (this is our settle general city)
as a note we could build Heroic epic here its available now.

Set a worker to chop a forrest for Washingtons NationalEpic

Turn 303 - 1415 AD

Chicago finishes Longbow > starts Library,
okay these may seem a bit of a :smoke: move as this cities only producing 5.5 beakers but it won't be long before its generating some.

Set another worker to chop a forrest at Washington

Other workers chopping jungle or building improvements in our newer cities

Turn 304 - 1420 AD

Atlanta builds Longbow > Starts University

Losangles builds monument > starts courthouse

All these longbows are hurting our Gpt  I set sanfran to work a few water tiles temporarily to counter the cost.

NCSG2_groo_402.jpg

Turn 306 - 1430 AD

Sanfran finishes courthouse > starts lighthouse

Our next GP is born, Great merchant. could be rather handy given our money situation. Settle for long term reward or trade mission for a nice hit of gold? If we settle him we really need to think about the best city, our future wallstreet. I send him down to the capital so we can decide where he should go.

NCSG2_groo_403.jpg

Turn 307 - 1435 AD

Newyork finishes Settler > starts Uni

Phili finishes Longbow > starts Uni

A cow pasture is destroyed by enemy infiltrators. Must be Mehmed, he'll keep.

NCSG2_groo_404.jpg

Send worker up to fix it.

Send our settler to the infill city site, and free workers head over to start irrigation

Turn 308 - 1440

National Epic is in at Washington, I switch off most production and switch on the scientists. Beakers per turn are back upto 172 @ 50% science. I let washington finish of the courthouse (3 truns) I'll send a troop or two down as were at the happy cap here.

Turn 309 - 1445 AD

Houston founded > starts a monument

Gold deficit jumps up to -12 Gpt, knock the slider down to 40%

Workers start chain irrigation

Turn 400 - 1450 AD

Send more workers to the chain irrigation area ready to start farming

Left the Great Merchant ready for the next player

NCSG2_groo_405.jpg

Just to recap

Next GP in 7 turns will be a scientist from washington

Great merchant we should probably settle Asap so we can get the slider back up (he's waiting in Washington)

Libralism is due in 3 turns if we grab Nationalism then go for Constitution it will take 28 turns!!! at our current tech rate.

Justin is currently teching Banking finishes in 1 turn, so keep an eye on what he goes for next just incase we need any trades, talking of trades this is his current offer for education.

NCSG2_groo_406.jpg

Plus 60 gold and worldmap

and thats about it.

:)

Well still no word from Pigswill so I guess GatlingGun your up, sorry its come around so quickly! Any other players out there willing to jump on this sinking ship of a game?

The Roster,

pigswill - (still no word)
GatlingGun - Up Now
schwartz - On Deck
aol - (MIA)
Groogaroo - Just Played

And the save,

Hmm, Washington needs a university.
If you think it's the right idea, Gatling, switch off a couple scientists onto mines to get the uni there.
Otherwise, keep repairing the economy and tech towards constitution (take nationalism off of lib.)

yes, I agree... I'll start working a univ in DC... I also think the GM should settle in NYC if you guys agree... that's where the first one went and it looks like a decent future wall street... fitting as it's NYC :). I like that it's not coastal... I usually try to keep my wall streets off the ocean to prevent unpredictable threats to my finances.

NYC for the merchant and future wallstreet, sounds good to me.

Hopefully constitution won't take as long as 28 turns once we have him settled and pop our slider back up, I just can't wait for representation! think of all those +3:science: :yumyum: finally we might be able to get back in this game!

Executive Summary
  • We were first to Liberalism and got Nationalism.
  • Increased BPT from 152 to 165.
  • GPT decreased from +3 to +2.
  • Two universities completed; four more are in-flight... the last is due in 19 Turns.
  • Justinian is teching to Astronomy; per our plan, I immediately detoured to Engineering
  • Mehmed has been rather active destroying things with his spies. I extorted 60G from him knowing this is probably our last chance due to the enforced 10 turn peace period.
  • Lots of irrigation done... still more to go, but I think we have sufficient labor at this point.

Timeline

T310 - Inherited turn... MM DC for University and production. Send GM to NYC. (114G, +3G/t @ 40%, 152B/t)

T311 - DC finishes Courthouse and starts a university. Boston finishes one LB and starts on another. GM buys a flat in NYC. (117G, +12G/t @ 40%, 152B/t)

T312 - Irrigate

T313 - We are first to Liberalism! :goodjob: I grabbed Nationalism per our plan... I did not revolt in favor of good relations with Justinian... This is the first time I can recall grabbing a free Liberalism tech and having Alphabet as one of the options :crazyeye:
T313.jpg

Our GPT takes a nose-dive as soon as we got Liberalism / Nationalism... I can't find cities where we obviously lost this many specialists so I presume this was inflation?? (117G, -15G/t @ 40%, 139B/t)

T314 - We start the long road to Representation... Added more merchants down south to compensate. (102G, -6G/t @ 40%, 131B/t)

T316 - Justinian starts Astronomy... due in 9 turns. I make an immediate detour for Engineering per our plan... we have four techs to go.

T316.jpg

T317 - More irrigation (88G, -5G/t @ 40%, 131B/t)

T318 - Atlanta finishes the University and starts a longbow. Mehmed destroys a mine near NYC and I extort 60G from him. (83G, -5G/t, 134B/t)

T318.jpg

T319 - GS pop'd in DC -> Settled. (138G, -7G/t, 143B/t)

T320 - University finished in DC.. starts a Longbow. More MM. (131G, +2G/t, 165G/t)

Closing Remarks
  • After Machinery is done, we need CR2 Macemen. It would be good to upgrade some of our CR3 axes and swords as well, so we should start stockpiling gold if possible... probably challenging given we are so tight on the production and cash front as it is.
  • I looked at what Justinian would give us for either Education or Nationalism... nothing exciting, and at this point I'd be nervous about giving him either tech... based on how quickly he shows Astronomy, I think his research rate is well over 400 equivalent BPT... and that is pre-Education and Representation!
  • I saw quite a dip in our income as soon as we pop'd Liberalism and Nationalism... I presume because inflation hit us when we changed eras but it was a nasty hit. Let's prepare for war :mischief:

Good turns Gatling. Our income drop was actually due to Justinian adopting Mercantilism (1455 AD, checked the log and we may want to do this when we get Banking.)
I'm up I guess, got it.

EDIT: Just did a calculation based on current specialists and multipliers that will be in effect in 20 turns (research time for constitution) and I came up with an extra 162.6 bpt by switching to representation. That would be HUGE for us right now. Should I divert our tech there, or continue to engineering??

Whatever we do, I think we need to take out Mehmed sooner rather than later... if we wait for Justinian to invade, it's too late... he will be next to us with superior forces.

So we could build a pile of catapults (presumably a mix of CR2 and CR1 + Barrage), but my experience has been that they don't do very well in the middle ages against Longbows... since we only need to take two cities, perhaps a pile of maces + cats would do it.

Its a tough call, we really need representation, but can we kick mehmed off this continent without trebs?

Like Gatling Gun says it is only 2 cities but you can bet he's gonna have a bunch of troops by now. If you think cats and maces will do the trick then go for it, but we need to make sure we take overwhelming numbers this time, but building more troops is gonna kill us financially!

:crazyeye:

Maybe we can do this as a compromise...

Tech Alphabet... I'm not at home, so I can't check, but I couldn't imagine it being a long time... build some spies and figure out what we need to do after we get spies... which can also serve to revolt his cities and save some siege hammers... after we count how many longbows he has, we at least know how many maces and cats we need. So we finish machinery, alphabet, then go for representation... thoughts?

EDIT:
I'm out on vacation from now until July 7th... I'll have internet access, but my BTS PC will be at home... skip me if my turn comes up before then... Enjoy the holidays (here in the US)...

Alphabet is 4 turns, spies could be the awnser, it would be great to have a peek at what were facing and like you said revolts would mean we'd only need a few suicide cats.

My flight is in about 9 hours, but I wanted to post a couple of other things I noticed...

I should have picked up on this earlier, but you can see pretty clearly from my save that Mehmed has axes and spears... he is getting metals from someone... I wonder who.... hmmm...
T320_3.jpg

This is one of those things about the AI that drives me nuts...

We have +11 diplo mods with Justinian but he wont trade iron to us...
T320_1.jpg

However, he only has +1 with Mehmed, but he is giving that joker iron...
T320_2.jpg

We will need to build some shock-promoted HAs in addition to maces and catapults given that Mehmed has metals now.

Well spotted GG, this is a bit worrying though! Looking at the amount of troops Mehmed is using to gaurd a couple of workers makes me wonder how many units he's going to have in his cities!

I'm not sure is justin has traded Iron to Mehmed, check this out...

NCSG2_groo_407.jpg

Mehmeds little copper city down south.

Mehmeds little copper city down south.

I hadn't noticed that... stinks that he got there before us; however, the Glance screenshot I posted very clearly shows that Mehmed made a trade for iron with Justinian.

Inherited Turn:
Fire a scientist in Washington and work a farm for growth.
Fire a merchant in Chicago and work plains hill forest to cut the university.

321:
Metal Casting in.
Dial up Justinian and trade Education for:
Machinery
Monotheism
Compass
Construction
120 Gold

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0016.jpg

Start teching constitution.
Justinian's Map revealed the rest of our opponents:

Civ4ScreenShot0018.jpg

Also note that the Roman leader is Julius Caesar (he popped a great person)
Run science at 100% to finish in 1 turn.
I tried to extort gold from Mehmed but he wouldn't hear of it..

330:
Constitution in, revolt to rep.
I played one more turn to show you the results.

331:
Research is now at 314 bpt (0% science, with more scientists, fewer merchants)
We do, however, have a happiness problem now. (Washington is starving away some anger with a couple extra scientists.)

Woot! :D We've got Rep! Finally we might actually be able to start teching. Nice Turns!

Okay I'm up, "Got It"

So... what's next? Taking out Mehmed, right? Might be worth going for Alphabet as Gatling Gun suggested and getting some EP's against our opponent.
