BOTWAWKI Revised Thread

Hey uhm EQ, I've been thinking about it for a while, and would self-defense and military classes be more effective if I found books for it? I mean I reckon it should have some effect, but with the teachers mostly needing instruction themselves it'd be kind of touch-and-go except for with the fearsome Joxer. Hmmm guess I'll look for a library of the map.
Do I have a pre-war map of NY or is... nah everyone's doing it and I remember you encouraging us. Hmmmmm, rather... is it ok for me to write 'we know the library/famous building is exactly there so go so and so and watch out for that long, narrow alley'?

Also, I've heard distilled water is highly reactive to a miniscule degree, so if bottled water is the main source of liquids the drinker will become poisoned from a lack of minerals?

EQ, didn't I have 200 lasers at the start? and sent half to Fort Dix, and half of what was left to Perth Amboy?

To Vault 2

We are highly disappointed that you involve yourself in the despicable practices of Human Sacrifice and slavery. That you have used our people nearly makes this an unforgivable sin against Humanity. However, as redemption, we offer you the chance to participate in the project we offered you earlier, under the same agreement as before. (you would receive free access to the water, in exchange for Tech parts.)

To Brunswick Nations
The Narwhal Legion Hereby proclaims it's friendship and non-aggression with the Brunswick Nation, and promises neutrality in the field, and safe refuge and hospitality for any Brunswick Scouts who make it to our various settlments. We hope that the Brunswick Nation will Reciprocate this offer of Friendship

Narwhales,
you were perfectly in the knowledge of this last year and did not complain. Indeed you encouraged us to abandon it and later offered for us to sell it to you, indicating your wish to use it, albeit you vaguely planned to dispose of the computer somehow which we pointed out we both lack the skills for and would ruin the system.
Furthermore we explained the logic of the current system to you in detail and found your agreement with our logic.
And before you adopt this not only hypocritical but also judgmental stance it may also behove you to consider how you would care for 960 immigrants were we to cancel the payments of sacrifices made to the computer.
We also note your concern is less with the remaining citizens and my honesty in approaching you on this accidental matter of which you were ignorant, and more on forcing us to join your scheme indicating you both realize my innocence as leader as you ask only participation in compensation, but also that you are not above enforcing your will on others. We remember clearly your suggestion of becoming the regional 'peacekeepers' as I will now denote with gooseeyes, and your abject refusal to sell us even a few weapons despite the force modifiers a rifles and machine guns would give us in our ongoing project to establish a self sufficient community outside the vault, as you wish to monopolize force in the region.
This has been a breach of the trust I have shown, as I well realized granting your faction this knowledge of the crimes some of my men committed, could well enable you to convince your followers to initiate aggressive action towards my people; despite the immediate and reasonable reperations I have promised.
As such the Vault will be on a Code Yellow Alert, and we will be ready to defend our salvage operations and outside base. If worst comes to worst we will lock down and you will not be able to fall back on the trade you may come to sorely need. And with 17 tech parts we reason we can easily remain inside for a decade, repairing parts as technology fails, or I could even resign in the favor of a more scientific leader.
As such if you intend to become the regional law enforcer, or overlord rather, we demand you do not adopt such a tone towards us to puff yourself up in front of your own citizen.

In other words, we refuse to cooperate on your water project until you are willing to trade weapons, ammunition and military training. As for the human sacrifice we refuse to apologize, and we have already apologized for taking a few of your men. However, as a sign of goodwill, we will call an extraordinary meeting to consider punishment of the leader in charge (oooh I can write a story).

@Toteone: You know he might just kill you and take your tech parts if you refuse to cooperate, right? :p

OOC: would NEVER do that!

To Vault 2:

We are not being hypocrites, nor do we demand that you punish people who were merely serving their leader and their people to the best of their abilities. We merely ask that you help the families of the people who were hurt, as well as the ENTIRETY of humanity. A Vault-tek vault, while a miracle of Engineering, is NOT a permanent and indestructible shelter, and, one day, you will have to rely on the world. Please, for the sake of your descendants, help create a world where all may live with the basic resources of Life at their disposal again? A clean world?

If you persist in this decision, we will, however, accept your offer of reimbursement via food and water.

Edit: And finally, the practices of the people of Vault 2 were none of our concern until they involved Karls of the Legion. However, we recognize that you did admit to the mistake, and we recognize that it is not your fault. As for your concern over us proposing to keep the peace within the Jersey wasteland (OOC: which includes Manhattan :p ) we feel that, as vault dwellers, you have no need for the ability to extend force over long distances.

(OOC: as for the trade, yeah, don't really depend on it ;) )

Good thing Vaults don't have doors.

Oh, right.

Good thing I have a nuke :D

If you need me, I'm on AIM as well. Also, very bored. Got tired of watching my marines die at Dover for the 400th time, and need something to do.

Map has been updated to reflect changes.

EQ might I suggest that the map link be added on the front page so that it is easily accessible?
Also, I don't get PM privileges till Friday so Ill need to send you my orders in some other fashion if you intend to update before Friday night.

This Thread may interest you. Just make a post to unlock the PM & other capacities - it'll take approx. a day. Also that map is great help, thank you!

I dunno Seon, I think I could last a decade or two or two to three at the most while falling back and then waiting him out in the vault. He's very strung out atm. But then again he'd probably persist and your words would have a good chance of being true and even if he'd be gone I'd reemerge weaker against a more productive but dangerous environment (though I guess maybe my combat drills might've brought me up to militia by then... hopefully).

OOC: I know you don't, yet, and not for some years yet. Your ability to scavenge has amazed me, though I think it also has to do with the density of food and water scavenging sources.

Dear Narwhales Legion,
we thank you for your kindness in modifying your message to us.
We will participate in your project in the trust that you will safeguard our investment and indeed the wider security of the area.

Furthermore we are also willing to turn over a large amount of food and water, but we expect military instruction and some weapons in return.

As a sign of the love that unites our two great people, the Narwhal Legion agrees to act as military instructors for Vault 2, as well as share some weaponry. In exchange, Vault 2 agrees to send the Narwhal legion their surplus food production. Additionally, we agree to work together on a project which will serve to help purify the world, piece by piece, sharing in the results as Equal Partners.

I have a question regarding Stats. is that first population number our total pop? or just the population in our Capital? (Becaise if it's the first, I feel rather stupid...)

Population and Slaves

Your population is all your people that you have available to you. Typically the numbers are going to start very small, but will quickly grow throughout the course of the NES. The "civilized" zones such as your faction won't be the only survivors out there, and based on your faction traits and other stats, you'll be receiving a slow flow of immigrants and refugees from more wild territories. This will be included alongside "natural" growth as well.

yeah, but what I meant was that, once one develops outposts, those have a population number next to them. I'm asking whether the first number is the total, or whether it is the population in the capital, and the total would be that, plus outposts.

Hey,

I take it as total Population. Then subtract from that the outpost number. This leaves
you with a total for your Capital.
Example: New Frostburk pop total 510.
Subtract 230 (Cumberland) to get my Capital pop of 280.

The Pop total in the stats increases with population increases.
