Ho ho ho and a bottle of Tokaj! - A Magyar civ

Sorry, I had to do some christmas shopping, so I had no time to post here.

okay, i will take a look at your translations... and patiently wait for the mod..
have good times with your brother and family and of course:

Boldog karácsonyt neked és a kedves családodnak is természetesen!

Köszi a megértésed és persze neked és a tiédnek is boldog karácsonyt! :)

I've uploaded the game texts and the diplomacy info file:
click!

I've only written the texts of Hunyadi Mátyás and the Academy of Sciences. The rest should be your translation from the last time you helped me. If you like to you can already write some diplo texts, have a look at the diplomatic infos file to find out how to name the entries and which texts are actually needed (just do a search for the string "MAGYAR_" there and you should find out soon everything you need to know). Just let me know if you want to handle this and if so post the finished game texts file so I can translate that into German as well. You can do that in your thread if you like to.

@cool3a2: here are the hungarized text entries.... i've translated all the texts and corrected your translation (where needed)... as soon as you will be ready with the modular version and send me the files, i will translate any needed texts...

SUGGESTION: i thinked a lot, and figured out that the unique building is not the best choice.... we've got only ONE SCIENCE ACADEMY! this can be the unique wonder or something! We have to find another Unique Building! in my opinion this one is not a good choice....

some things that may need development:
1. unique building
2. custom soundtrack for all ages peace/war times
3. historical (as historical as can be) quotes for all leaders
4. a very accurate and historical civilopedia

any help is welcome...

any feedbacks?

Merry Christmas for everyone in Hungary and of course in the rest of the whole wide world:)

Maybe you are right about the unique building... All I can think of are spas (I personally think that the fürdö Esnaz uses in his mod doesn't fit, maybe it could be represented by the Széchenyi fürdö, but how to do that building?). About the sounds... Zerver gave me some sounds. I have already included them and now there should be different sounds during different ages. Maybe I could post here a beta of our mod so you can see how far we are. Your third point is what we are doing now. The civilopedia... okay, but I'd say this is a minor thing. I don't know the Hungarian civilopedia entries very well, but the German are enough.Yeah... I'll post the beta here next time so you can have a look on it.

BTW: Zerver told me that he has already overdone some of the graphics of his animated leaderheads.

just two suggestions for the UB:

I. Végvár - i don't know the english expression. it's a castle that had been built mostly during the ottoman subjection. this castle was built at the "frontlines" to prevent major attacks... the "Végvár"-System played a very important role during the wars...

It might replace Castle
extras:
1. don't need walls
2. 75% defense (except vs. Gunpowder-based units)

II. Wine-Vault

It might replace Grocer

+30% commerce
+20% culture (hungary has a real wine-culture, wines are often in the centre of poetry)
Can turn 2 citizens into Merchant
+1 health from Wine
requires: Winery

Unique Wonder: Sziget Festival? it's the most famous hungarian happening... any feedbacks?

Hi there!

I've uploaded 2/3 of the mods latest beta version. I've splitted the rar into 3 parts, but I got trouble when uploading them. First part worked without any complications. When uploading second part I've got the message that the file is already uploaded while the first parts filename was displayed. Third part's upload worked correctly again... I'll try to upload the second part later. Until then, here are the links to the first and third part:

first
third

About the UB: at the moment I favor Végvár a bit. So I've done a little search for graphics:

click!
click!

@Kabcsi: because the mod is almost 30MB big (sorry...) my webspace at civfanatics will be full once I've uploaded all parts. Could you manage to upload it on civ4.hu once the mod is finished? Although I am registered there I couldn't figure out how to upload files there, so I think it is impossible for me. Otherwise I can't upload the warlords and the vanilla version (allthough it will take some weeks till these are ready...). I don't like to register anywhere only for these few files...

@cool3a2: i've downloaded the first and the third part, and will be waiting for the second part.... i'm happy with the UB, but if you have any other suggestions i am open for it. about the hosting: sure, i will upload it when you're ready! i think the graphic for the possible 'végvár' is great...

yenemus did a really great job for new flags... he made a hungarian two-colored flag as the flags in the vanilla. you may use it as the new hungarian flag. you can find it here

Alright guys, here is part2: click! This link will be dead after a week. Since this is only a beta this limitation is acceptable at the moment. When the mod is finished and you've uploaded it on civ4.hu I'll make a download thread for it in civfanatics filedb section to make life easier for non-Hungarians.

Something related with paprika would be cool as unique building... But I have no idea what that could be... That building could improve health, moral and money output, especially if spice is near... There are a lot things that have sth. to do with paprika, but I can not think of any building

Hmm... csárda... That is not what I was thinking about, but not bad idea... It would be very helpful if others (mamba? avain? Bal-rog?) would join this discussion to have more opinions. I've read the discussion about that in civ4.hu as well. Maybe these people could give there opinion here as well. Of course any interested people from other countries are welcome, too. I'd like to give a short summary about that topic. There are 4 ideas:

1.: spa, would improve health, moral, commerce
2.: végvár, improved castle (useful graphics are already available)
3.: wine-vault, improved grocer (improves commerce, culture, can turn 2 citizens into merchants, improves health from wine)
4.: csárda, improves health, moral, commerce

My thoughts about these are:
-there is no graphic for spa, wine-vault and csárda (at least non that fit or that I am aware of)
-what would csárda and spa replace? Esnaz replaced the aqueducts by fürdö (spa), but aqueduct (is that spelling actually correct??) is drink water supply whereas a spa is not
-végvár is an either weak UB compared with that of other nations; maybe I am wrong with this because of my style of playing civ4
-in my opinion wine-vault doesn't fit as much as the other suggestions do
--> at the moment I personally prefer végvár a (very) little bit, but I have still to think about that csárda-idea...
Now: any comments, suggestions, ideas?

About that flag... Well, I like the flag currently used (I know the double-cross used for this alternative flag, but others may not; therefor the current flag is easier to recognize I'd say, at least for non-Hungarians). What is actually the advantage of a two-coloured flag?

here comes my opinion:

1. i prefer now csárda (it may replace granary, gives health and happines bonuses)
2. my second bet is wine-vault (but instead of health from wine, it may improve happinnes from wine - this was sigmund's idea from the civ4.hu)
3. végvár is ok, but you're right, it's a little weak compared with other UBs
4. i don't really like spas... they're so roman... everyone knows the roman spa-culture.. so it's not quite hungarian

any other ideas? someone from somewhere, somehow? :)

I perssonally don't think spas are roman. Sure, they build spas, too and maybe also in Aquincum and Co., but the spas I visited in Hungary were all build centuries after the roman empire. On the other side compared with Hungary there are very few spas in Germany (at least in my region), only these swimming halls with cold water. So I'd say spas are typical for Hungary. This leds me to the idea: thermal water would be a great ressource... Well, but this has nothning to do with our mod.

i don't know... i think that the hungarian spa's roots are in the roman and mostly the turkish spa-culture... but maybe i'm wrong..
but your idea of thermal water is so great! you or somebody else should do it! it's one of the best resourse-ideas i've ever heard. it may give some commerce, health and happines bonus. but it's not that thread, we have to get on with the UB :)

Is this thread still active? I downloaded the magyar civ from here:
http://www.strategyinformer.com/pc/civilizationiv/mod/7760.html?details=1

It runs with a few minor errors under vanilla civ IV, but masses of XML errors under warlords. Is that sufficient for anyone guess what I might be doing wrong, or should I supply more details?

Yes, this thread is still active. More or less... At the moment I have to prepare for my examinations so there is no time for civ4. Kabcsi had the same problem, but he should finish his examinations shortly (if he didn't already). He has an other thread, too, but we decided to cooperate. Don't know which thread will be continued.

The version you have loaded is already quite old... That was the last version made by Anima Croatorum by himself. My first deed after I have taken over this mod (the last posts here were already quite old when I started to continue the mod; actually this is the reason why there are no new screenshots on the first site of this thread: I can't update the post because it was made by Anima) was to repair the mod for v1.61 to make the errors you have mentioned disappear. Since then many changes have been made to the mod. There are now unique unit graphics in and animated leaderheads and many, many more. For BtS you can load the latest beta here: click. It seems to my that you are Hungarian, so there is no reason to give explanations how to load the mod: you can read it :goodjob: ! If you don't have BtS: let me know. I will re-upload the latest final version for warlords and vanilla (sorry, they only include one single unique unit graphic). Unfortunately I won't have time for this before tuesday...

Once my examinations are over I will publish an updated version of the warlords and vanilla version, too. So keep your eyes open.

BTW: Feel free to take part in the discussion about the new unique building for Hungary! We need ideas. Aki Magyar velünk tart :goodjob: .

Many thanks for the quick reply. No, I don't have BtS yet, but after your post I did manage to find a more current version for warlords, and it's working fine. I haven't found a good vanilla version yet, but no hurry.

No, alas, I am only Hungarian in ancestry, and do not speak the beautiful language, but I managed to get the mod loaded anyway.

For the building, all the ideas sound good to me. The wine-cellar sounds best though; is there another country that mentions the country's wines in its national anthem?

i've finished my exams
Lucky man, I've just started today... Have you been successful with your exams?

Perhaps I could write a mail to the administrator. Maybe he gives me the rights to update the first post in this thread (don't know if this is possible...).

Tomorow I'll reupload the last final warlords and the vanilla version of the mod (both still without unique units).

BTW Skzb: did you rate for this thread??

Um...rate for this thread? Er....what does that mean? (If it's a joke it's going right over my head.)

No, no joke. If you take a look on the overview over all the new civilizations threads you can see stars that describe how popular a civ is. This is computed by ratings of the users. You can rate via the button on the top right on the civ's thread. Well, only a minor thing.
