CivStats.com - View your Pitboss games on the web

Looks like you're right! I keep finding things that I forgot to update in the server transfer. I'll look in to this today.

Any word on this? I'm still not seeing turn change emails which would ordinarily go to my gmail account, and my spam folder is clear.

Sorry, I didn't have time to look in to it that day.

However, I think I just fixed it. My test worked, at least. Please let me know if you get the email on next turn change.

Don't you hate how some scripts work completely differently on different servers?

I think this may not have worked. As you posted this at 11am EST. One of my games had it's turn roll over at 3pm EST. And I have myself set up on the turn notifications for that game.

I think one of us doesn't understand what's being proposed. I'm thinking that the machine hosting the pitboss service would also host a web service that would serve up the stats for that locally-running pitboss game that civstats.com is now doing for a hundred or so pitboss games, only with more detail?

In my limited experience, many people setting up pitboss servers do not really understand the risks associated with setting up and maintaining web servers.
I don't think there are any misunderstandings. It's just that if a game host exposes his computer to security risks by setting up a web server, it is his problem. Sure, people should help and give advice concerning this, but it really is not a valid reason to leave it unimplemented.

As I told before, I made a simple PHP application that can handle the CivStats uploads. It has no interface as it is only meant to help a Civstats IRC bot, but it would be very easy to modify it to print a web page with basic PHP skills. If someone is interested, just tell. No warranties, and I expect you to know how to handle a web server ;) Of course, if the author is planning to create a real feature to support this, it would be better.

Hey - I just started using civstats for my own pitboss, but noticed a problem. Even though I set up my preferences to receive e-mail notifications, I never got any when a new turn began. Stranger still, the other person that's also a player in the same game says he has been getting notifications ?! Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: Another piece of useful information for debugging this problem - notifications about diplomatic messages seem to be getting through just fine to me...

I put in a support request with my new host about the mail thing. I am getting some weird error that I think is there problem.

Now and then scaring messages appear in the game log, most of the time
when someone has changed her/his player name:

Noone has ever changed from AI to human or in the other direction,
so why these "converted to" messages?

As for the second problem... that is very strange. I'm not sure what's causing that. It sounds like the uploader is messing up. I'm curious about where it's getting the AI names at all if they're long gone. I recommend rebooting your game server to make sure there isn't a weird rogue version of the uploader running and screwing things up.

Well, the AI names should be there. We have nine human players and
nine AI players. But we do not renumber the civilizations or whatever
and we have never converted an AI to a human or the other way round.
The human leader names are changes sometimes, though, but could
that really confuse the CivStats server or the uploader?

What is happening? Is actually the CivStats server logging in as the
AIs, after converting them to human? Or should I suspect that
someone else is doing this?

I got this sometime during this sequence of rebooting the Pitboss
server machine:
1/ Saving from Pitboss to a file
2/ Exiting Pitboss
3/ Rebooting machine
4/ Starting Uploader
5/ Starting Pitboss, loading from the save file

Several AIs and human leaders were "eliminated" in the log,
but all are still alive and kicking in the game. None of the
"logins" and "logouts" happened for real, as far as I know.

Game is Rasbora, number 350 on the CivStats web server.

OverLoad has announced that he is moving his household. He predicted civstats may be down for as much as a month as the DSL service typically takes a couple of weeks for hookup.

Is this a new announcement? Because my pitboss game on civstats seems to be operating just fine.

same problem here. I dont get emails when a turn is finished too. Is there a solution???? :crazyeye:

The only solution I can see at the moment is using PBNotify in conjunction with CivStats, but I just don't want to have two separate programs running. And also - PBNotify only notifies you after a new year begins, not on player by player basis.

I noticed that the event log on CivStats shows the last 100 events. Is there any way to get the RSS feed of the event log to return more than the last 30 events?

After several attempts I managed to get a new game setup (496 game id) but it was painful because the uploader was not connecting.

Something is not right with this database and how it is getting updated is my guess. Noticed too that something is constantly downloading on the ie status bar: civiv_logo_med.png

Is there anything in particular that you did to get it to work? I recently fixed a bug where games that had a single quote in the title were not uploading properly. It's possible that other bugs like that exist that I haven't caught.

That's because you're using IE and I had to implement horrible javascript hacks just to make IE display transparent PNGs properly most of the time. IE is a horrible nightmare for web developers! It doesn't always do that; just some of the time.
